  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of occlusion patterns using the T-scan $III^{(R)}$ system and oral parafunctional behaviors on temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) in female college students. Methods: A questionnaire survey assessed TMD symptoms and oral behavioral checklist (OBC) scores in 120 female college students in their early twenties. Occlusion was evaluated using the T-scan $III^{(R)}$ system. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between occlusion and OBC scores based on patients' symptoms of TMD and to determine whether OBC scores were a predictor of TMD. Results: A total of 101 participants with an average age of 22 (${\pm}2.17$) years were included in the analysis. The reported symptoms of TMD were categorized as moderate (28.8%), slight (27.7%), severe (25.7%), and asymptomatic (17.8%). Occlusion was analyzed using the T-scan $III^{(R)}$ system, and the mean occlusion time was 0.42(${\pm}0.5$) seconds. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the group that would 'clench or grind teeth' during sleep showed an odds ratio for TMD that was 8.9 times higher than that in the group without this behavior. The group that would 'hold, tighten, or tense muscles without clenching' while awake showed an odds ratio for TMD that was 21.3 times higher than that in the group without this behavior. Conclusions: We confirmed that oral parafunctional behavior affects TMD. Therefore, we would like to continue studying the diagnosis and treatment of TMD by evaluating occlusion patterns and related OBC scores.

  • Korean stops are currently undergoing a tonogenetic sound change, as found in the Seoul dialect in which a merged VOT of aspirated and lax stops induces F0 to be the primary cue for distinguishing the two stops and the lax stops have lower F0 than the aspirated stops. In tonal languages, low tone is produced with a breathy voice. This study investigated whether there are changes in voice quality with respect to the tonogenetic sound change of Korean stops. Two age groups speaking the Seoul dialect participated in this study: five females and six males born in the 1940s and 1950s and nine females and eight males born in the 1980s and 1990s. This study replicated previous findings of VOT and F0 and further examined H1-H2, H1-A1, and H1-A2 to see how they correlate with the sound change. In the older and younger generations, H1-H2, H1-A1, and H1-A2 were significantly lower after the tense stops than after the aspirated and lax stops, but they were not significantly different after the aspirated and lax stops. However, the younger females exhibited some different results for H1-H2 and H1-A2 than the older generation. In the younger females, the H1-H2 mean was higher after the aspirated stops than it was after the lax stops at the vowel onset, and the H1-H2 difference increased at the vowel midpoint. Although there was an inter-speaker variation in the results of H1-H2 and H1-A1, analyses of individual speakers showed that the H1-H2 and H1-A1 were higher after the lax stops than after the aspirated stops in the younger female speakers. These results indicate that lax stops tend to be breathier than aspirated stops in the younger female speakers. They also indicate that changes in voice quality are on Korean stops with tonal sound change, but are still developing.

  • This study aimed at providing a comprehensive account of the sources and causes of errors in business emails that Korean college students wrote using a translation machine. Data were collected from 21 emails written by the students who took a business English course. Findings indicated that the students tended to make frequent errors in verb use and verb tense as well as a definite article, countable/noncountable nouns, time adverbs and prepositions. Therefore, the study suggested that the students' common errors imply that they experience some difficulties learning these linguistic features. Given that learners' errors can give us valuable insights into teaching and learning how to write in English, pedagogical suggestions are put forward based on the study results.

  • In the first half of 2016, Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo continued his efforts to secure support from major political parties, often benefiting from internal party conflicts. During the tense campaign for the 2017 Jakarta gubernational election, however, blasphemy charges against incumbent "Ahok", an ethnic Chinese and Christian, put Jokowi in trouble. Led by radical Islamic organizations such as Front Pembela Islam (FPI), half a million people filled Jakarta's streets, calling for Ahok's arrest. The resurgence of identity politics questioned the boundaries of the Indonesian nation and its core premises on the relationship between religion and the state. In the realm of foreign policies, the Jokowi administration maintained its tougher stance against illegal fishing in its waters. In spite of Indonesia's clashes with Chinese vessels in the Natuna sea, however, it is unlikely that the tension will escalate uncontrollably, as the Jokowi administration is seeking investment from rich neighbors for building infrastructure, which will be his key legacy for the 2019 presidential election.

  • Background: Feline calicivirus (FCV) is widespread throughout the world. An FCV infection is associated with conjunctivitis, rhinitis, and mouth ulcers that can lead to the animal's death. Because vaccination is not always effective, it is necessary to monitor the infection regularly. Objectives: This study examined the FCV epizootic situation in the Moscow metropolitan area by conducting a molecular phylogenetic analysis of the virus isolates. Methods: Samples from 6213 animals were examined by a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. For phylogenetic analysis, 12 nucleotide sequences obtained from animal samples were selected. Sequencing was performed using the Sanger method. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted using the Maximum Likelihood method. Results: The FCV genome was detected in 1,596 (25.7%) samples out of 6,213. In 2018, calicivirus was detected in 18.9% of samples, 27.8% in 2019, 21.4% in 2020, and 32.6% in 2021. Phylogenetic analysis of the F ORF2 region and the ORF3 start region led to division into two FCV genogroups. Most of the isolates (8 out of 12) were close to the Chinese strains. On the other hand, there were isolates closely related to European and American strains. The isolates circulating in Moscow were not included in clusters with vaccine strains; their nucleotide similarity varied from 77% to 83%. Conclusions: This study revealed a high prevalence and genetic diversity of the FCV in Moscow. The epizootic situation remains stably tense because 24 viruses were detected in 25% of animals annually.

  • This study was to analyze the effects of sudden rise in cortisol and human symptoms in the situation of rescue at river, The experimental results are as follows. The subjects were A, B, C, and the values of cortisol elevation before and after diving were 6.30ug/dl, 6.50ug/dl, and 6.57ug/dl, respectively. However, in the subject D, the elevation of cortisol before and after diving was significantly elevated to 11.00ug/dl. The reason for this is thought to be the depletion of physical strength through weighty due to the inferiority of the underwater view and tense during the sudden rise. The subjects E showed significantly lower cortisol elevation before and after diving, as 4.28ug/dl, because the age of E was the youngest of the subjects and the anxiety was low due to abundant experience of deep sea diving. Fatigue is 7 to 8, anxiety is 7 to 9, Both showed high values. Psychological strain increased fatigue in underwater search, and poor visual field seemed to increase anxiety. The research results will be provided as empirical data on the safe underwater search activities of rescuers.

  • In an environment where English is a foreign language, English learners can use AI voice chatbots in English-speaking practice activities to enhance their speaking motivation, provide opportunities for communication practice, and improve their English speaking ability. In this study, we propose a teaching-style AI voice chatbot that can be easily utilized by lower elementary school students and enhance their learning. To apply the Teachable Agent system to language learning, which is an activity based on tense, context, and memory, we proposed a new method of TA by applying the Teachable Agent to reflect the learner's English pronunciation and level and generate the agent's answers according to the learner's errors and implemented a Teachable Agent AI chatbot prototype. We conducted usability evaluations with actual elementary English teachers and elementary school students to demonstrate learning effects. The results of this study can be applied to motivate students who are not interested in learning or elementary school students to voluntarily participate in learning through role-switching.
