  • To stem the ever-prevalent occurrence of industrial accidents in the construction industry, which is emerging as a social problem, efforts must be invested by various stakeholders. Specifically, among stakeholders, the orderer is at the top of a project's decision-making structure. Therefore, the orderer's awareness of safety and health directly affects the process of securing the safety of the overall construction site. In this light, the present study aims to identify differences in the perceptions of each stakeholder regarding the obligatory safety and health measures for clients that have recently been introduced. In addition, it suggests specific implementation plans in the Korean context. The data used for analysis were collected through a survey targeting stakeholders such as orderers, safety managers, and site managers, and the collected data were quantitatively reviewed by using multivariate analysis methods such as analysis of variance. As a result of the analysis, the introduction of safety and health obligations for the owner was found to be necessary, and the designation and operation of safety and health experts as an action plan was deemed reasonable. The authors expect that the results of this study can be used as basic data for revising the related regulations in Korea. Moreover, as a further study, a review of the effectiveness after improving regulations would contribute strongly to the domain.

The incidence of unexpected delays in uploading outside radiologic images in the transfer of patients with major trauma

  • Purpose: Critically ill patients are frequently transferred from one point of care to a hospital that can provide a higher level of care. To achieve optimal treatment within the targeted window of time necessary for time-sensitive cases like major trauma, rapid transportation and decision making are essential. Transferred patients have often undergone radiologic imaging at the referring hospital. Examining these outside images is paramount. Therefore, this study was conducted to estimate the upload time of outside images. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from January to April 2020. Patients transferred from other hospitals with digitally recorded CDs or DVDs of radiologic or diagnostic images were included. When the patients were registered at the emergency department reception desk, the digital images were transmitted to our picture archiving and communication system using transmission software. The time of upload and the numbers of digital images were recorded. The time interval from patient registration to the time of upload was calculated. Results: The median number of images was 688 in the trauma team activation (TTA) group (688 in the TTA group, 281 in the non-TTA trauma group, and 176 in the nontrauma group, respectively; P<0.001). The median upload time was 10 minutes. The longest upload time was 169 minutes. The upload time was more than 20 minutes in 12 cases (19.4%). Conclusions: Patients with major trauma bring more images than patients with other diseases. Unexpected delays (>20 minutes) were noted in approximately 20% of cases. It is necessary to minimize this time.

An Exploratory Study of EVMS Environment Factors and their Impact on Cost Performance for Construction and Environmental Projects

  • A high-performing Earned Value Management System (EVMS) can influence project success and help stakeholders meet project objectives. Although EVMS processes are well-supported by technical guidelines and standards, project managers often face challenges related to the project culture, team, resources, and business practices that make up the project environment within which an EVMS is being used. A comprehensive literature review revealed a lack of a data-driven and consistent assessment frameworks that can gauge the environment surrounding EVMS implementation. This paper will discuss the EVMS environment of construction and environmental projects, and examine its impact on cost performance. The authors used a multi-method approach to identify 27 environment factors that make up the EVMS environment, assessing them on 18 construction and environmental projects worth over $2 billion of total cost. Research methods employed include: (1) a literature review of more than 300 references; (2) a survey of 294 respondents; and (3) remote research charrettes with more than 60 participating expert practitioners. Culture (one of the identified environment categories) was found to be relatively more important in terms of its impact on the EVMS environment, followed by people, practices, and resources. These exploratory results show statistically significant differences in cost performance between completed projects with either a good or poor environment, for the sample projects. Key environment factors are outlined, and guidance is provided to practitioners around how to set up an effective EVMS environment in a construction or environmental project to inform decision-making and support achieving the project cost objectives successfully.

  • Companies are paying attention to project governance to realize their goal strategies, project success, and project value in a rapid and complex environment due to the development of information technology. This study aims to explore project governance and factors from literature review and practice guides related to project governance and empirically analyze the impact of project governance factors on IT project objective performance. The survey was conducted on project managers, project team members, and project management members with experience in carrying out business IT projects within two years at companies in various industries in Korea. The main conclusion is as follows. Among the project governance factors, disclosure and reporting that uses and reports using appropriate and reliable information about projects related to decision-making activities positively impact the achievement of IT project objectives: business success and stakeholder satisfaction. Among the project governance factors, project sponsorship, a role that effectively connects management and projects, and a project management framework that provides tools, procedures, resources, and techniques for projects positively impact IT project objective performance. This study is of academic and practical significance in that it identifies the definition and factors of project governance through companies in various industries in Korea and the positive impact of project governance factors on IT project objective performance.

온라인 협업의 수렴과정 개선을 위한 온라인 화이트보드 툴 콘셉트 제안 (Suggesting Online Whiteboard Tool Concepts for the Convergence Process of Online Collaboration)

  • COVID-19 이후 재택근무가 증가하면서 조직의 협업 방식이 온라인 화이트보드 툴을 활용하여 비대면으로 이루어지고 있다. 온라인 화이트보드 툴을 활용한 온라인 협업 수렴과정의 문제점을 파악하기 위해, 온·오프라인 협업을 비교하는 관찰연구와 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 그리고 발견한 문제점을 확인하는 설문을 진행하고, 해결 아이디어를 제안하였다. 또한 심층 인터뷰를 통해, 제안된 아이디어의 문제 해결 가능성을 검증하였다. 온라인 화이트보드 툴을 활용한 비대면 협업의 수렴과정은 '정보량 과다', '시점 이동의 어려움', '퍼실리테이터 역할 수행'의 문제점이 있었다. 위 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여 협업 과정의 단계별 분류와 내비게이터의 제공, 퍼실리테이터 요청사항 시스템 창 아이디어를 제안하였다. 본 논문은 온·오프라인 협업의 장점과 문제점 분석을 통하여 온라인 협업 과정 중 의사결정과 직결되는 수렴과정을 효과적으로 도울 수 있는 아이디어를 제안하였다는 것에 의의가 있다.

대학생의 무형식학습이 구직능력 및 창업의도에 미치는 영향: 팀 학습 만족도의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Informal Learning of University Students on Employment Competency and Entrepreneurial Intention: Focusing on the Satisfaction Level of Team-based Learning)

  • 대학생은 학교 내에서 배운 이론적인 지식을 바탕으로 한 가지 분야에서 전문성을 키우는 과정을 거치게 된다. 이러한 학교생활을 토대로 경력 개발의 방향은 과거의 취업 중심의 형태에서 벗어나 전 생애에 걸쳐 취업과 창업을 선택하기 위한 업의 전환을 고려하는 형태로 바뀌어가고 있다. 교육의 방향 또한 기존의 지식을 전달받고 암기하는 형식 학습에서 보다 자율적이면서 학습자의 적극적인 참여를 중심으로 하는 무형식학습과 팀 기반 학습의 필요성이 더욱 강조되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 대학생의 무형식학습 활동이 구직능력과 창업의도에 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 기존의 취업역량에만 연결시켜왔던 연구에 창업을 더함으로써 새로운 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 또한, 기업 및 교육 현장의 팀워크가 중요해짐에 따라 팀 기반학습 만족도에 따라 무형식학습 활동이 구직능력과 창업의도에 어떠한 영향력을 보이는지도 함께 살펴보았다. 연구결과의 요약은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생의 무형식학습은 구직능력에 유의한 영향을 미치지만 창업의도에는 직접적인 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 구직능력은 대학생의 무형식학습과 창업의도를 완전매개하였다. 셋째, 팀 기반 학습의 만족도는 대학생의 무형식학습에 따른 구직능력에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했으나 구직능력과 창업의도 사이에는 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이 연구는 대학 내 구직능력과 창업의도를 높이기 위해 무형식학습이 필요하며, 이 과정에서 만족도 높은 팀 기반 학습을 진행하는 것이 중요함을 시사하고 있다.

중환자실 간호사들의 DNR에 대한 윤리적 태도 (ICU nurses' ethical attitudes about DNR)

  • 본 연구는 중환자실 간호사들의 DNR에 대한 윤리적 문제의 인식과 태도를 파악하여 DNR 환자간호에 도움이 되는 기초자료로 활용하고자 시도하였다. G광역시 상급종합병원 1개소, 전라 남 북도 700병상이상 종합병원 각각 1개소 중환자실에 근무하는 간호사를 대상으로 2014년 8월 1일 부터 9월 5일까지 설문조사하여 154부를 최종분석 하였다. 첫째, DNR 결정 태도는 치료를 거부하는 환자의견에 반대, 예후가 좋지 않은 환자라도 생명의 연장에 찬성, 환자가 원했을 경우 어떠한 상태라도 DNR 미실시, 보호자의 요구에 의한 치료와 가망 없는 환자의 CPR실시에 반대하였다. 둘째, 환자가족에 의한 인공호흡기 및 다른 치료의 적극적 실시에 반대, 보호자의 중환자실 입실에 대립적인 입장을 보였다. DNR 환자에 대해 의사의 인공호흡기의 소극적 사용에 찬성, 환자의 신체적 심리적 안정을 위해 기본적인 간호도 줄여야 하고, 무균술을 지키지 않은 처치에 묵인하는 입장이며, 가족에 의한 환자의 상태변화를 주치의에게 여러 차례 보고하는 것에 반대하였다. 셋째, 의사의 관심감소를 인정하고, 이에 보호자의 항의가 있을 때 의료팀을 옹호하며, DNR 결정을 주치의가 내린 것에 대립적인 입장이며, DNR 지침에 따른 결정에 반대하였다. 예후가 좋지 않은 환자에게 그대로 설명하는 것에 반대 또는 중립적이며, 환자나 보호자에게 환자상태를 있는 그대로 설명하는 것과 사망에 가까운 경우 환자나 보호자에게 상태를 그대로 설명하는 것에 반대하였다. 결론적으로 DNR 주체는 환자이며, 환자의견이 충분히 반영 되어야 하며, 의료행위의 범위와 결정과정에서의 갈등을 최소화하고 환자중심의 윤리적 의사결정이 되도록 DNR 결정에 대한 표준과 지침이 필요하며, 충분한 설명을 근거로 한 동의가 이루어 져야하겠다.

국내 의료기관의 소독과 멸균 관리 실태 (Actual Disinfection and Sterilization Control in Korean Healthcare Facilities)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the status of disinfection and sterilization in healthcare facilities. Method: A survey of 193 Korean healthcare facilities was conducted from February 8 to March 7, 2013. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, Fisher's exact test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe with SPSS WIN 18.0. Results: Of the healthcare facilities 93.2% had specific guidelines for disinfection/sterilization, but only 47.9% had a committee on disinfection/sterilization for decision-making, less than half (42.7%) conducted regular monitoring of actual practices, while 83.9% had established procedures for recovery in case of problems with the disinfection process and 89.0% kept records and archives of disinfection practices. Cleaning process, selection of chemical disinfectants and process of disinfection and sterilization were found to be inadequate in some healthcare facilities. Perception score for adequacy of medical instruments was 8.10, environmental disinfection was 7.20, and sterilizer management was 8.45 out of a possible 10. Conclusion: Compared to larger institutions, smaller healthcare facilities had less effective disinfection and sterilization management systems, while some facilities showed inadequate practices for medical equipment and general sterilization. Better academic and state-level support is recommended for smaller facilities in order to establish a better system-wide management system.

NICU에 입원한 미숙아 어머니의 스트레스 (Study on the Perceived Stress Level of Mothers in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

  • With advances in neonatal medicine, smaller and sicker infants are surviving premature birth. As these tiny patients battle for their lives, their parents also struggle with psychological consequences of an unexpected role. The birth of a sick infants has long been documented as stressful events for the parents. High stress levels may alter parents' interaction with their baby and impair their communication with health professionals, which can in turn affect parents' participation in care planning and decision making. Nursing interventions aimed at reducing the parental stress and anxiety levels during this crisis may have a positive impact on their ability to form an attatchment to their baby and make prudent decisions about his care. The planning of such interventions would be inhanced if the contributions of various factors to increased parental stress levels were identified. This descriptive study was conducted to understand the contents and degree of parental stress in the NICU during their premature's hospitalization, and to give a baseline data in developing nursing intervention program. Subjects were the 60 mother of hospitalized newborn in NICU of 2 University Hospital in Taejon City from April 1st, 1999 to June 30th, 1999, who agreed to take part in this study. The instrument used in this study were Parental Stressor Scales:NICU(PSS:NICU) developed by Miles et al.. and validated by 3 NICU practitioners and 3 child health nursing faculties. The questionnaire has 4 dimensions and 45 items; sight and sounds of NICU(5 items), babies' appearance and behavior nursing intervention(19 items), parental role alteration and relationship with their baby(10 items), health team communication(11 items). The questionnaire asks parents to rate each item on a five-point Likert type scale that ranges from "not stressful" (1) to "extremely stressfu1"(5). Total scores representing overall stress from the NICU environment are calculated by summing response to each item. A high score indicates high stress. A subscale score is calculated by summing the responses to each item in the subscale. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficients were .93. The data was analyzed as average, Frequency, Standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient by use of SPSS/PC+. The results of this study is summarized as follows ; 1. The total perceived stress level score of mothers of premature baby was slightly high($3.66{\pm}1.1$). The highest scored dimension was 'relationship with their baby and parental role change'($4.21{\pm}0.9$), and next were 'appearance and behavior of the baby'($3.92{\pm}1.1$), 'communication with health team'($3.32{\pm}1.3$), 'sight and sounds of NICU'($3.30{\pm}1.1$). 2. There were statistically significant correlation noted ; mother's perceived severity of the baby's condition(F=8.0012, P= .0125) and baby's gestational age(r = -.4724, P = .0500). In summary, information about physical environment of NICU, the mother's perceived severity of premature baby's state, maternal role change related variables and the knowledge of characteristics of premature baby must be included in nursing intervention program of mother's of premature baby in reducing the parental stress and anxiety level. It is suggested that each NICU needs to develop a nurse managed supportive care program for parents of premature baby. Also, it is suggested that there need to investigate the coping mechanism of mother of premature baby.

Lessons from Haitai Distribution Inc's experience in Korea

  • Owing to the rapid growth of hypermarket/discount store formats since 1996, Korean retailing has suddenly attracted the significant attention from researchers. Before the emergence of large scale retailers such as E-Mart, Lotte Mart and Tesco Korea, there were the two retail formats who led the Korean retailing in the modern retailing history: department store and supermarket formats. Nevertheless, there has been little literature concerned about the two retail formats as a case study, while some authors have paid their attention to hypermarket/discount store formats. In addition, when mentioning the development process of retailing history, it is less likely that authors have made an effort to illustrate supermarket retailing history. In order to regard supermarket retailing as part of the Korean retailing, it is interesting to look at a representative supermarket retailer, Haitai, who was one of the subsidiaries of Haitai chaebol. Based on supermarket retailing, the company which was established as a joint venture in 1974 led a supermarket retailing in the Korean modernised retailing history. Before analysing whether Haitai failed or not, the definition of failure should be illustrated. With regard to the term, failure, in the academic world, authors have interchangeably used the following terms: failure, divestment, closure, organisational restructuring, and exit. To collect research data as a case study, the author adopted an in-depth interview method. The research is based on research interviews with 13 ex-staff who left after Haitai went bankruptcy, from store management department to merchandise department. By investigating Haitai's experiences through field interviews, the research found that Haitai restructured organisational decision-making process at the early stage when companies started to modernise organisational charts, benchmarking sophisticated retailing knowledge through the strategic alliance with a Japanese retailer. In respect of buying system, the company established firmly buying functions by adopting central buying system, and further, outstandingly allocated considerable marketing resources to the development of retailer brands with the dedicated team of retailer brand development. In the grocery retailing, abandoning a 'no-frill' packaging concept, the introduction of retailer brand packaging equal to, or better than national brand packaging design, encouraged other retailers to change their retailer brand development strategies. In product sourcing ways, Haitai organised for the first time the overseas sourcing team with the aim of improving the profit margins of foreign products and providing exotic products for customers, followed by other retailers. Regarding distribution system, the company introduced the innovative idea which delivered products ordered by stores directly to each store withboth its own vehicles and its own warehouse in which could deal with dry foods, chilly foods, frozen food, and non-foods, and even, process produce. In addition, Haitai developed many promotional methods to attract more customers like 'the guarantee of the lowest price', and expanded its own business to US in 1996, although withdrew, because of bankruptcy in 1997. Together with POS introduction in 1994, Haitai made a significant contribution to the development of the Korean retailing, influencing other retailers in many aspects. As a case study, the study has provided a number of lessons from Haitai's experiences for academicians and practitioners, suggesting that its history should be involved in the Korean modernised retailing.
