  • Environmental education, effectively performed at school, is very important to solve the environmental problems. Moreover the survey for teacher's perception is essential. The purpose of the study was to investigate the perception of environmental problems of middle school teachers in Pusan. The survey was done twice in 2007 and 2012, and based on the time intervals, careers, and major of the teachers. 200 teachers were chosen in 2007 and 300 teachers in 2012. How many environmental problems occurred during this time period affected the 471 teachers' perception was investigated and analyzed. The results are as follows. First, the perception difference of environmental problems was meaningful between two time intervals (p<.01). Especially, the perception of modern environmental problems and carbon emission showed considerable increase in both science and non-science major teachers. This may be caused by the climate change and the severity of lifestyles of indiscriminate consumerism. Second, the perception difference of environmental problems by careers was also meaningful (p<.01). Overall, the perception was obvious on the aspects of modern environmental problems, carbon emission, destruction of ozone layers, nuclear wastes, environmental hormones, and red tides. Teachers, having more careers irrespective of their teaching subjects, showed higher perception on the seriousness of environmental pollution, the necessity of environmental conservation, and the importance of health. Third, the perception of environmental problems between science and non-science major teachers was meaningful (p<.01). Particularly, the perception in the broad environmental problems was distinctive between them.

  • Despite the recent emphasis on value research in mathematics education along with the significance of values from a new perspective, there has been a lack of research on the values perceived by teachers and students in Korea. This paper analyzes how fifth-grade students would perceive the values of a master teacher with expertise in elementary mathematics education after her teaching of mathematics and whether their values on mathematics learning would change. According to the study, the students recognized that the master teacher valued understanding, preview-review, picture, problem, and reason in mathematics learning. Among these, the value of understanding was perceived as the core value. An analysis of the students' values on general mathematics learning and personal mathematics learning showed that preview and review were the most important before and after the master teachers' teaching. An analysis of the changes in the values of students showed the greatest change in the value of understanding. Instead of accepting the values of the master teacher as it were, students actively reconstructed and maintained them. Based on these results, this paper has drawn implications regarding the consideration of students' values in mathematics learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore kindergarten students' attitude toward science by their gender and teachers' background. 90 kindergarten teachers and 180 5-year-old students were intentionally sampled in a suburban area. The research instruments used in this study were the interview questions of student attitude to science and the teacher's background questionnaire. The interview questions constructed by two researchers, based on "The Students' Attitude to Science Scale"(Pell & Farvis, 2001). It was composed of 13 questions; 7 questions on preference for science and 6 on perception to science. The teacher's background questionnaire was consisted of I question on educational background, I on career, and 51 on scientific literacy("Test of Basic Scientific Literacy")(Laugksch & Spargo, 1996). The results revealed that the students' attitude to science was positive and was different by their teachers' educational background, not by their gender and their teacher's career and scientific literacy. However, the students showed different preference for science by their teachers' scientific literacy. These results imply that early childhood teachers should have enough chances to be more educated and to improve their scientific literacy.

  • study identified secondary school chemistry major teachers' perceptions of sublimation related to the drying phenomenon of frozen wash and representation of the phenomenon on phase diagram. The subjects were 53 teachers for the questionnaire developed for this study, and interviews. The two professors who majored physical chemistry and one professor who majored analytical chemistry at teacher's college were interviewed for teacher educators' perceptions of sublimation. The results showed that forty one teachers among fifty three teachers thought that the drying phenomenon was sublimation. The most teachers who thought that the phenomenon was sublimation responded as a reason that solid state changes to gas state. The teachers who thought that the phenomenon was not sublimation responded as a reason that the 1 atm of air pressure was not the condition of sublimation. Seventeen teachers thought that the drying phenomenon of frozen wash could be represented on phase diagram, but thirty four teachers thought that it could not. But most teachers confused the scientific representation of the phenomenon, and felt difficulties to teach the contents to students.

  • This study attempted to prepare a realistic support policy for the early childhood education field by specifically grasping the reality and perception of the 2019 revised Nuri curriculum play-based Education experience of the childcare center teacher. To this end, individual in-depth interviews were conducted with childcare center teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, who had the current Nuri curriculum education experience. For the collected data, implications were derived using Hatch's(2002) pattern analysis and interpretative analysis, and Seidman's(2006) interview data analysis. As a result of this study, first, kindergarten and childcare center teacher apply the same integrated revised Nuri curriculum, but childcare center aims for education that considers childcare perspectives and safety more. Second, childcare center teachers had difficulties in educational matching in the process of linking self-directed open play activities in which infants were the main subjects. Third, childcare center teachers' educational understanding of play activities and ability to grasp values contribute to infant interaction and bond growth. In conclusion, there is an urgent need for a national policy plan for teacher education, exchange support, and infant ratio adjustment for effective education implementation of the current Nuri curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate role perception, knowledge, self-confidence of practice, and educational needs of child daycare teachers' infectious disease management and to identify their relationship. A correlation study was conducted. Participants were 180 child daycare teachers. Almost eighty percent(78.9%) of participants did not received infectious disease management education. The mean percent of correct answers for infectious disease management knowledge of participants was 52.3% and their self-confidence of practice of infectious disease management was low. However, their role perception of infectious disease management and educational needs were high. Educational needs on 'hand washing and hygiene to prevent infectious diseases', 'blocking transmission of infectious diseases', 'infectious disease specific management and care', and 'infectious disease specific symptoms' were high. Child daycare teachers' role perception of infectious disease was positively correlated with their knowledge and educational needs. Development and evaluation of educational interventions to improve child daycare teachers' infectious disease prevention and management are recommended. Particularly, efforts are needed to improve child daycare teachers role perceptions as infectious disease manager.
