  • In this paper, we study exponential stabilization of the vibrations of the Kelvin-Voigt type wave equation with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping and acoustic boundary in a bounded domain in $R^n$. To stabilize the systems, we incorporate separately, the internal material damping in the model as like Kang [3]. Energy decay rate are obtained by the exponential stability of solutions by using multiplier technique.

  • Anew discretization method for the input-driven nonlinear continuous-time system with time delay is proposed. It is based on the combination of Taylor series expansion and first-order hold assumption. The mathematical structure of the new discretization scheme is explored. The performance of the proposed discretization procedure is evaluated by case studies. The results demonstrate that the proposed discretization scheme can assure the system requirements even though under a large sampling period. A comparison between first order hold and zero-order hold is simulated also.

  • In this paper, an effective method in analyzing a class of bilinear systems via Taylor polynomials is proposed. The result derived by Yang and Chen shows an implicit form for unknown state vector and requires to solve a linear algebraic equation with large dimension when the number of terms used increase. In comparison to the result of Yang and Chen, the method in this paper gives a closed form for unknown state vector and does not need to solve any linear algebraic equation.

  • In this paper, we study uniform exponential stabilization of the vibrations of the Kirchhoff type wave equation with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping and acoustic boundary in a bounded domain in $R^n$. To stabilize the systems, we incorporate separately, the passive viscous damping in the model as like Kang[14]. Energy decay rates are obtained by the uniform exponential stability of solutions by using multiplier technique.

  • Based on the improved first order Taylor interval expansion, a new interval analysis method for the static or dynamic response of the structures with interval parameters is presented. In the improved first order Taylor interval expansion, the first order derivative terms of the function are also considered to be intervals. Combining the improved first order Taylor series expansion and the interval extension of function, the new interval analysis method is derived. The present method is implemented for a continuous beam and a frame structure. The numerical results show that the method is more accurate than the one based on the conventional first order Taylor expansion.

  • The flow regimes for a Taylor-Couette flow with a stable, axial stratification in density are investigated using numerical simulation. The flow configuration identical to that in the experiment of Boubnov, et al. (1995) is considered in the present research. The main objectives of this investigation are to verify the experimental and numerical results carried out by Boubnov, et al. and Hua et al. (1997), respectively, and to further study the detailed flow fields and flow bifurcations. With increasing buoyancy frequency of the fluid (N), the stratification-dominated flow regime, called the S-regime, is observed. It is also confirmed that the important effect of an axial density stratification is to stabilize the flow field. The present numerical results are in good agreement with Boubnov, et al. and Hua et al.'s observations.

  • Carbon fiber epoxy composite materials are widely used in the structures of aircrafts, robots and other machines because of their high specific stiffness, high specific strength and damping. In order for the composite materials to be used in the robot structure or machine element, bearing mounting and joining surfaces must be provided, which require accurate machining. In this paper, the machinability and tool wear characteristics of the milling operation of the carbon fiber epoxy composite materials were experimentally measured. The tool wear mechanism and the Taylor tool wear constants were determined. Also, the surface roughness of milling operation was measured w.r.t. cutting speed and feed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption. This scheme is applied to the sample-data representation of a nonlinear system with constant state tine-delay. The mathematical expressions of the discretization scheme are presented and the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control system with state tine-delay, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic ability, is examined. The proposed scheme provides a finite-dimensional representation for nonlinear systems with state time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to then. The performance of the proposed discretization procedure is evaluated using a nonlinear system. For this nonlinear system, various sampling rates and time-delay values are considered.
