Optimal lyophilization process was developed for manufacturing the dried product of Lactobacillus acidophilus with high cell viability. Three major factors, freezing rate, specific surface area of samples, and stabilizer type and their synergy were shown to play a crucial role in the development of an effective lyophilization process. Finally we found an optimal combination among three process parameters mentioned above; an exceptionally high cell survival percentage of 90% was achieved using the 8.28 cm-1 specific surface area of samples, slow freezing rate, and a stabilizer composition of 4% skim milk +1% glycerol +0.1% calcium chloride.

Since thesaurus is used as a knowledge resource in many natural language processing systems, it is very useful and necessary for the high quality systems, especially for dealing with semantics. In this paper, we introduce a semi-automatic method for the construction of Korean noun semantic hierarchy by utilizing a monolingual MRD and an existing thesaurus.

The polypropylene has been known to have higher melting temperature than polyethylene, and good mechanical properties. This paper introduces the experement result of dielectric breakdown properties to a polypropylene with a crystal structure. According to the experement, breakdown voltage is incresed when a thickness of thin film thinned. Spherulites of PP film prepared by annealing is larger than that of PE.

The Gibbs free energy of formation of $BaThO_3$ from elemental oxides has been measured at temperatures between 853 and 903 K using a $CaF_2$ solid electrolyte galvanic cell. The galvanic cell consisted of Pt, $O_2, CaO+CaF_2 \parallel CaF_2 \parallelBaThO_3+ThO_2+BaF_2, O_2$, Pt EMF gave the standard Gibbs free energy for the reaction $CaF_2+BaThO_3=CaO+BaF_2+ThO_3$ as $\DeltaG^o$,/TEX>=124111.031-117.597 T(J/mol).

We have tested tyrosinase inhibitory activity on the methanol extracts of 23 species marine algae and 23 species traditional medicinal plant. Among them, four medicinal plants, Ephedra sinica, Atractylodes japonica, Pinnelia ternata, and Citrus aurantium, showed strong inhibition potency over 90% at concentration of 0.33 mg/mL. Also, two marine algae, Enteromorpha compressa and Sargassum singgildianum showed mild inhibition potency over 50% at concentration of 0.33 mg/mL.

This paper resents a spatio-temporal video segmentation method. The algorithm segments each frame of video sequences captured by a static or moving camera into moving objects (foreground) and background using a statistical hypothesis test. In the proposed method, three consecutive image frames are exploited and a hypothesis testing is performed by comparing two means from two consecutive difference images, which results in a T-test. This hypothesis test yields change detection mask that indicates moving areas (foreground) and non-moving areas (background). Moreover, an effective method for extracting object mask form change detection mask is proposed.

Air pollution has been one of the severe problems in city area. Sulfur dioxide is the major pollutant among the air pollutants. And the lichen as a botanical indicator have been used to predict the air pollution level. This study was carried out to evaluate the air pollution level in Taejon area through the field survey which were checked lichen status and sulfur dioxide content in the atmosphere. The results were as follows 1. The average sulfur dioxide content in Taejon area was 0.031ppm. The comparison of measurement methods were regression equation, Y= 0.357$\times$+0.014 and correlation factor, r = 0.771. 2. The maximum point of the SO$_2$ level was site No. 2(Daehwa-Dong), 0.087 ppm and the minimum, site No. 8 (Doma 2-Dong), 0.009ppm. 3. Total amounts of sulfur dioxide yearly emitted from Taejon area by fuel consumption estimated 29829.6 tons. 4. The relationship between degree of lichen and sulfur dioxide contents were 0.000~0.020ppm : Zone No. 2 0.020~0.060ppm : Zone No. 1 over 0.060ppm : Zone No. 0

We have tested 101 species traditional medicinal plants on Acetylcholinester ase inhibition. Among them. Caesalpina sappan. Cnidium offcinale, Coptis japonica, Ephedra sinica, Eribotrya japonica, Gardenia jasminoides, Liriope platyphylla, Lonicera japonica, Paeonia suffruticosa, Phyllostachys nigra, Polygonum multiflorum, Prunella vulgaris, Rheum undulatum, Salvia miltiorrhiza and Uncaria rhynchophylla showed strong inhibition potency over 88%. In addition, Aconitum carmichaeli, Caesalphina sappan, Cinnamomun japonica, Citrus unshiu, Hordeum vulgare, Glycine max and Rehmannia glutinosa showed relatively good inhibition potency over 80%.
