Test-bed Development for Long-term Monitoring of Small Bridge Asset Management (소규모 교량 자산관리를 위한 계측 테스트베드 구축)

  • While Category 1 and Category 2 bridges are intensively inspected and carefully managed, many small bridges that are not in the Category 1 and 2 are often forgotten until they decay in serious condition. Since many of these small bridges located in the populated city, failure of them would cause huge negative impact on the community. This paper focuses on the small size concrete bridges for timely repair and rehabilitation work for the effective operation and management. Test bed is developed to define the key parameters to forecast the long term performance of the bridges, mostly concrete box bridges. Key parameters suggested in this paper are cumulative fatigue due to repetitive heavy traffic loads and the acid attacks for concrete material deterioration. The cumulative fatigue is measured by the use of the mileage concept. For the long term data collection and inspection, stable and easy to use data collection system is installed as a test bed. The contribution of this research work is on the development of the test bed to define the key parameters of bridge deterioration.

A Study for Efficient Methods of System Calibration between Optical and Range Sensors by Using Simulation (시뮬레이션을 통한 광학 및 레인지 센서 간의 효율적인 시스템 캘리브레이션 설계)

  • The study planned to suggest the efficient methods of system calibration between the range and optical sensors. The simulation was performed by considering i) design of test-bed, ii) mathematical methods of system calibration and iii) locations of the sensors. The test-bed was designed by considering specifications of the range and optical sensors. Also, the error levels of each sensor were considered in the process of simulation with dataset, which was generated under these predetermined conditions. The system calibration was carried out by using the simulated dataset in two different approaches, which are single photo resection and bundle adjustment. The results from the simulation determined that the bundle adjustment method is more efficient than the single photo resection in the system calibration between range and optical sensors. For the better results, we have used the data, obtained in various locations. In a conclusion, the most efficient case was in sequence of i) the bundle adjustment with ii) the simulated dataset, which were obtained between 2m to 4m away from the test-bed.

Implementation of a Mesh Router Supporting Multi-path Routing based on IEEE 802.11s (다중 경로 라우팅을 지원하는 IEEE 802.11s기반 메쉬 라우터 구현)

  • This paper focuses in the implementation of mesh router supporting multi-path routing based on IEEE 802.11s. In HWMP of IEEE 802.11s, the single path routing just was defined. So, in this work, we implemented not only the single path routing defined in IEEE 802.11s, but also a multipath routing based on AOMDV which extended the standard. A multi-channel multi-interface technology that can transmit and receive simultaneously and lower bandwidth reduction caused by interferences than a single-channel single-interface was implemented in our mesh router. We also developed an outdoor test bed with the mesh routers. The bandwidth of the mesh router and a real-time video streaming service were verified using the test bed. And, the single path and multipath routing algorithms are also compared. In this test bed, The average TCP bandwidth was 23.77 Mbps and the latency was 2.4 ms in five hops. The test bed could service real-time streaming with an average jitter of 0.547 ms in five hops. The mesh router that used the multipath routing path reduced the path recovery time by 12.73% on average.

  • The earthwork is a core process of all constructions, and compaction measurement of earthwork play an important role in improving productivity. The analog tests such as Plate Bearing Test and Sand-cone occupy current compaction measurement techniques. Due to advanced 4th Industrial Revolution, research on analog tests combined smart construction technology are actively conducted. DCPT (Dynamic Cone penetration Test), simpler and faster than conventional tests, has recently on rise. However, it is also an analog that measures data manually and has several disadvantages such as history management and data verification. The IoT-based DCPT system developed in this study combines digital wire sensors, mobile phones, and Bluetooth with conventional DCPT. Compare to conventional test methods, IoT-based DCPT has advantages such as performance time, single-person measurement, low cost, mobile-based management, and real-time data verification. In addition, a test bed was built to verify IoT-based DCPT. The test bed was built under similar conditions to the actual earthworks site through roller equipment. DCPT data obtained from 322 stations. As a result, IoT-based DCPT showed good performance, and the test bed was also showed stable results as the compaction was carried out.

Stiffness Evaluation of a Heavy-Duty Multi-Tasking Lathe for Large Size Crankshaft Using Random Excitation Test (랜덤가진시험을 이용한 대형 크랭크샤프트 가공용 복합다기능 선반의 강성 평가)

  • Machine tool vibration is well known for reducing machining accuracy. Because vibration response of a linear structure generally depends on its transfer function if the magnitude of excitation were kept constant, this study introduces a RET(Random Excitation Test) based on FRF method to evaluate stiffness of a prototype HDMTL(Heavy-Duty Multi-Tasking Lathe) for large crankshaft of marine engine. Firstly, two force loops of the lathe and corresponding structural loops were identified:1) workpiece - spindle - head stock - main bed, 2) workpiece - tool post - carriage bed. Secondly, compliances of each structural loop were measured respectively using RET with a hydraulic exciter and then converted into stiffness. Finally, the measured stiffness was compared with that obtained previously by FEM analysis. As the result, both measured and computed stiffness were closely in agreement with each other. And the prototype HDMTL has evidently sufficient rigidity above ordinary heavy-duty lathes.

Estimation of the Maximum Friction Coefficient of the Rough Terrain to Control the Mobile Robots (주행로봇 제어를 위한 험지의 최대마찰계수 추정)

  • When mobile robots perform the mission in the rough terrain, the traversability depended on the terrain characteristic is useful information. In the traversabilities, wheel-terrain maximum friction coefficient can indicate the index to control wheel-terrain traction force or whether mobile robots to go or not. This paper proposes estimating wheel-terrain maximum friction coefficient. The existing method to estimate the maximum friction coefficient is limited in flat terrain or relatively easy driving knowing wheel absolute velocity. But this algorithm is applicable in rough terrain where a lot of slip occurred not knowing wheel absolute velocity. This algorithm applies the tire-friction model to each wheel to express the behavior of wheel friction and classifies slip-friction characteristic into 3 major cases. In each case, the specific algorithm to estimate the maximum friction coefficient is applied. To test the proposed algorithm's feasibility, test bed(ROBHAZ-6WHEEL) simulations are performed. And then the experiment to estimate the maximum friction coefficient of the test bed is performed. To compare the estimated value with the real, we measure the real maximum friction coefficient. As a result of the experiment, the proposed algorithm has high accuracy in estimating the maximum friction coefficient.

The Effect of Silk Amino Acid Supplementation on the Level of Blood Energy Substrates and Hormones during Prolonged Exercise

  • The silk amino acid supplementation is unknown to affect the release of several hormones related to energy production and metabolism during prolonged exercise. This study examined the effects of silk amino acid supplementation on the level of blood amino acid, energy substrates and hormones level during prolonged treadmill exercise in college taekwondo player. A prolonged treadmill test was carried out 60 min at 65% of maximal heart rate on 8 athletics. Blood samples were obtained form antecubital vein of subjects at rest bed 30 minute before test, after exercise and rest 1 hour. The subjects were supplemented silk amino acid (6,390 mg/day) fur 4 week. The silk amino acid supplementation did not produce significant changes on the levels of blood lactate, ammonia, amino acid, glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, seratonin and leptin at rest bed 30 minute before test, after exercise and rest 30 minute. The silk amino acid 4 week supplementation did not affect the levels of blood amino acid, energy substrates and hormones during prolonged treadmill exercise.

Hydraulic Model Test on Local Scour Protecting around Bridge Piers with TTG Blocks (TTG블록의 교각국부세굴에 대한 수리모형 성능평가)

  • TTG-blocks are concrete blocks designed to be paved around the bridge piers in order to protect the channel bed from local scour. In this study roughness coefficient of T.T.G- blocks are investigated through the hydraulic model test. And critical safety weight of TTG-blocks is derived in terms of Reynolds number for each individual block and group of linked blocks. Flume experiments show that a performance of TTG-blocks is effective to protect the river channel bed from local scour at bridge piers if it is assessed using with geotextile mat under blocks or designated gravels for filling in holes of blocks.

  • Reported here are results of the mechanical and electrical properties of both of intact and thermally degraded epoxy-coated copper busducts that are made by fluidized bed process. To elucidate and compare the properties mentioned above, electrical breakdown by thermal and water aging, v-t characteristic, bending test, impact test and cross cut test are carried out. Although the performance of electrical and mechanical properties are gradually decreased in increasing the severe conditions such as temperature, aging time, and so forth, sample C has a better performance in both mechanical and electrical properties.

  • This research produced internal model tester ($2.0m{\times}2.0m{\times}1.0m$) to evaluate the field application of Paju Unjeong District water recycling system for small streams eco-friendly river bed disparity method for the first time in Korea and conducted comparative analysis of the Paju Unjeong District water recycling system field test results and infiltration rate result of internal tests by each rainfall intensity following surface material. Infiltration rate result of internal tests concrete pavement by rainfall intensity following surface material, asphalt pavement, bentonite mate, stabilized soil construction and mixed soil construction manifested low infiltration rate. On the contrary, compaction soil, grassland and water permeable packaging materials resulted in significant amount of infiltration rate. As for the field permeability test results, they were manifested similar tendency as indoor permeability test results and they satisfied the standard for standard of water permeability of domestic disparity facility (less than $1.0{\times}10-7cm$/sec). As compaction rate increased, unconfined compression strength increased as well while coefficient of water permeability decreased.
