  • In this paper, it is studied on wide radiating slot antenna's miniaturization for ultra wide-band(UWB) technologies and notch structure to prevent interference between UWB systems and existing wireless systems for using Wi-Fi service of IEEE standards 802.11 a/n. Proposed antenna that wide slot is decreased from $\lambda/2$ to $\lambda/4$ length of resonant frequency has decreased by 72 % compared with conventional antenna. And optimized T-shaped CPW-fed stub has satisfied UWB bandwidth for 3.0~11.8 GHz. Then, creating 2-order Hilbert curve slot line in the stub's patch area, 4.9~5.6 GHz that centered frequency is 5 GHz is eliminated. Finally, the designed antenna constructed on FR4-epoxy has $20{\times}15\;mm^2$ dimension. The measured results that are obtained return loss under -10 dB through 3.2~11.8 GHz without Wi-Fi bandwidth, a linear phase characteristic, a stable group delay, and omnidirectional radiation patterns are presented.

  • EB(Eigen-Beamforming) has widely been applied to MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) systems to form beams which maximize the effective signal-to-interference plus noise ratio(SINR) of the receiver using the singular value decomposition(SVD) of the MIMO channel. However, the signal detection performance for the mobile station near the cell boundary is severely degraded and the transmission efficiency decreases due to the influence of the interference signal from the adjacent cells. In this paper, we propose an adaptive interference mitigation method for the EB transmission, and evaluate the reception performance. In particular, a reception strategy which adaptively utilizes optimal combining(OC) and minimum mean-squared error for Intercell spatial demultiplexing(MMSE-lSD) is proposed, and the reception performance is investigated in terms of the effective SINR and system capacity. For the average system capacity, the proposed adaptive reception demonstrates the performance enhancement compared to the conventional EB reception using the receiver beamforming vector, and up to 2 bps/Hz performance gain is achieved for mobile station located at the cell edge.

  • To achieve cost and size reductions, we developed a low cost manufacturing technology for RF substrates and a high performance passive process technology for RF integrated passive devices (IPDs). The fabricated substrate is a conventional 6" Si wafer with a 25${\mu}m$ thick $SiO_2$ surface. This substrate showed a very good insertion loss of 0.03 dB/mm at 4 GHz, including the conductive metal loss, with a 50 ${\Omega}$ coplanar transmission line (W=50${\mu}m$, G=20${\mu}m$). Using benzo cyclo butene (BCB) interlayers and a 10 ${\mu}m$ Cu plating process, we made high Q rectangular and circular spiral inductors on Si that had record maximum quality factors of more than 100. The fabricated inductor library showed a maximum quality factor range of 30-120, depending on geometrical parameters and inductance values of 0.35-35 nH. We also fabricated small RF IPDs on a thick oxide Si substrate for use in handheld phone applications, such as antenna switch modules or front end modules, and high-speed wireless LAN applications. The chip sizes of the wafer-level-packaged RF IPDs and wire-bondable RF IPDs were 1.0-1.5$mm^2$ and 0.8-1.0$mm^2$, respectively. They showed very good insertion loss and RF performances. These substrate and passive process technologies will be widely utilized in hand-held RF modules and systems requiring low cost solutions and strict volumetric efficiencies.

  • We studied the hydrogen-bonded $TlH_2PO_4$ (TDP) ferroelectrics treated with the proton-beam bombardment. The TDP material was irradiated with 1-MeV proton beam at a dose of $10^{15}/cm^2$. In order to analyze the hydrogen environment in TDP, we carried out the $^1H$ high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) - i.e., Combined Rotation And Multiple Pulse Spectroscopy (CRAMPS) measurement. The isotropic chemical shift of hydrogen indicates its displacive property is related to the $PO_4$ lattice deformation which occurs throughout the antiferroelectric-, the ferroelastic- and the paraelastic-phase transitions. The temperature dependence of $\sigma_{iso}$ reveals the electronic charge redistribution is induced by the proton-beam irradiation and the elastic property.

  • This paper presents a new system to estimate the head pose of human in interactive indoor environment that has dynamic illumination change and large working space. The main idea of this system is to suggest a new morphological feature for estimating head angle from stereo disparity map. When a disparity map is obtained from stereo camera, the matching confidence value can be derived by measurements of correlation of the stereo images. Applying a threshold to the confidence value, we also obtain the specific morphology of the disparity map. Therefore, we can obtain the morphological shape of disparity map. Through the analysis of this morphological property, the head pose can be estimated. It is simple and fast algorithm in comparison with other algorithm which apply facial template, 2D, 3D models and optical flow method. Our system can automatically segment and estimate head pose in a wide range of head motion without manual initialization like other optical flow system. As the result of experiments, we obtained the reliable head orientation data under the real-time performance.

  • In this paper, the dynamic analysis of a dolphin system for mooring a floating structure such as barge mounted plant is studied. The characteristics of the soil-pile system are simplified by a set of equivalent spring elements at the mudline. To evaluate the equivalent spring constants, the finite difference method is used. Since the characteristics of the soil-pile system are nonlinear in case of soft foundation, the nonlinear dynamic analysis technique is needed. The Newmark $beta$ method incorporating the modified Newton-Raphson method(initial stiffness method) is used. A numerical analysis is performed on two mooring dolphin systems on soft foundation and rock foundation. In case of the rock foundation, the characteristics are found to be nearly linear, so the linear dynamic analysis may be sufficient to consider the foundation effect. But in case of soft foundation, the non-linearity of the foundation appears to be very signigicant, so the nonlinear dynamic analysis si needed.

  • The advent of microarray technologies gives an opportunity to moni tor the expression of ten thousands of genes, simultaneously. Such microarray data can be deteriorated by experimental errors and image artifacts, which generate non-negligible outliers that are estimated by 15% of typical microarray data. Thus, it is an important issue to detect and correct the se faulty probes prior to high-level data analysis such as classification or clustering. In this paper, we propose a systematic procedure for the detection of faulty probes and its proper correction in Genechip array based on multivariate statistical approaches. Principal component analysis (PCA), one of the most widely used multivariate statistical approaches, has been applied to construct a statistical correlation model with 20 pairs of probes for each gene. And, the faulty probes are identified by inspecting the squared prediction error (SPE) of each probe from the PCA model. Then, the outlying probes are reconstructed by the iterative optimization approach minimizing SPE. We used the public data presented from the gene chip project of human fibroblast cell. Through the application study, the proposed approach showed good performance for probe correction without removing faulty probes, which may be desirable in the viewpoint of the maximum use of data information.

  • Land price can be affected by convenience or psychological repulsion like PIMFY (Please In My Front Yard) or NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) for various facilities. Services related to public establishment, welfare, medical attention, and amenities in rural areas are comparatively poorer than those in urban areas. The purpose of this study is to estimate the implications of the accessibility to community facilities in rural areas for land prices using a hedonic price model. The accessibility to facilities is estimated by real road distances and the land prices are applied for four types of land usages: field, rice paddy, building lots, and village halls. Community facilities are classified from public and community services view: education, safety, culture, transport, environment, health care, and finance. The results show that the accessibility to health care and transport can positively affect land prices and the accessibility to environment (waste facilities and junkyard) and unpleasant services (funeral hall and charnel house) can negatively affect land prices. Especially, the accessibility to hospital is the most positive influential factor for all types of land usages.
