In this paper, a hardware compiler for symbolic description language(SDL) is proposed for logic design automation. Lexical analysis is performed for SDL which describes the behavioral characteristics of a digital system at the register transfer level by the proposed algorithm I. The algorithm I is proposed to get the expressions for the control unit and for the data transfer unit. In order to obtain the network description language(NDL) expressions equivalent to gate-level logic circuits, another algorithm, the the algorithm II, is proposed. Syntax analysis for the data formed by the algorithm I is also Performed using circuit elements such as D Flip-Flop, 2-input AND, OR, and NOT gates. This SDL hardware compiler is implemented in the programming language C(VAX-11/750(UNIX)), and its efficiency is shown by experiments with logic design examples.

This study examined preservice elementary teachers' patterns and tendencies in thinking of drawn models of multiplication with fractions. In particular, it investigated preservice elementary teachers' work in a context where they were asked to select among drawn models for symbolic expressions illustrating multiplication with non-whole number fractions including a mixed number. Preservice teachers' interpretations of fraction multiplication used in interpreting different types of drawn models were analysed-both quantitatively and qualitatively. Findings and implications are discussed and further research is suggested.

Futurism can be defined as a movement in the early 20th century founded by Italian writer Marinetti apposing to traditional and conservative art. Though its life as a movement seemed to be fairly short, it can be said that the very essence of futurism can be seen whenever there is radical change in our society such as the information revolution. Even though the information revolution has brought us many positive improvements our life including art and design, lately there are also discussions about the defects in our life. Ron Arad may be considered as a designer and artist whose intentions and expressions are very similar to those of futurism. This study investigates concepts, meanings, and expressions of futurism in art history and then those of Ron Arad's shown in interior design projects. By examining selected project examples the author defined that rather than optimistic viewpoints, avant-garde and technological aspects were found to be strong in symbolic qualities. As for expressive qualities, dynamism and continuity appeared to be Ron Arad's unique expressions, very similar to those of futurism on the other hand, purity and temporarily were found less. It is hoped that the study may be a help in better understanding futuristic qualities of Ron Arad, one of the radical and experimental designers of our age.

A new paradigm of design lays stress on the world of metaphysical concepts, and various attempts are being made to give meaning to psychological values. Hotel is a memorable place to remind of a special moment in one's life such as travel, marriage, meeting and so on. It also contains even more symbolism than other spaces as it is the place where the most primary and private act takes place apart from one's residence. As a result, it is also possible to communicate the message which a designer intends to convey through the user's recognition in the form of various symbolic expressions in space design. The designer communicates a meaning into a space through a symbolic system and creates a mutual consensus by means of the understanding structure of "designer-space-user". The user's diverse interpretations through a symbol are based on epistemology and consist of the primary, the secondary and the tertiary recognition structure system in the aspect of their contents. The primary structure depends on sensual perception, impressive idea and transcendental recognition based on metaphysical and perceptional association. The secondary structure includes casualty, continuous deduction and rational(integral) recognition. Finally, the tertiary structure is sublimation to the transcendental mental world beyond the boundary of emotion and it is classified into fundamental recognition structure on an object and archetypical recognition structure on an ego. These characteristics can derive systematic understandings and diverse interpretations on the symbol from the space of a hotel through the frame of analysis based on the artistic form of monosemous, polysemous and multidimensional frameworks and symbols. The framework of this analysis includes all the cases, and various methods which haven't been attempted in practice are presented. Therefore this study is not just a simple analysis of space but rather it will serve as a methodological tool for design that allows for various attempts of symbolic design concepts in the recognition structure system.

In their everyday life, people form social phenomena and relations through the shapes and habits of animals. Therefore, animals contain the idea of the way of life of certain nations, spiritual and cultural feelings, and the symbolic meaning which can be recognized between the members of the unique nation. The symbolism of animals varies depending on different nations, because the adages are the essence of the language including their culture, thought, custom, and life. Examining their own adages can be one of the ways to find out what the animals symbolize in different nations. Another reason is that they are the dictionaries, reflecting their own way of thinking and traditional values, so to speak. The research shows that, between Korean and Chinese adages, it is in a similar frequency, using materials such as mammals, birds, fishes, reptiles, and insects. The adages are focused on the 12 animals which is familiar to both nations, a rat, an ox, a tiger, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake, a horse, a lamb, a monkey, a rooster, a dog and a boar. We compared the symbolism, the surface meanings in adages, and the figurative meanings of these animals in Korea and China. As a result, it is found that some are almost the same in usage. However, some are totally different such as expressions related to the animals, the cultural differences and clear understanding. It is necessary to do comparative researches in a detailed and various way by studying the issues derived from verbalism.

This study explored characteristics of Camp style as presented in the musical The Rocky Horror Show, analyzing its symbolic meanings through the lens of Greimas' semiotic square model. Camp style, known for its exaggerated expressions, irony, and fluid gender representations, plays a central role in challenging traditional gender norms and cultural binaries. This study begins by outlining the significance of The Rocky Horror Show in musical theater and pop culture, highlighting its impact on fashion and art. Through character and costume analysis, this paper examined four key features of Camp style: symbolism, gender fluidity, playfulness, and theatricality. The semiotic square model was applied to deconstruct complex relationships between these features, particularly focusing on contradiction and opposition. Research findings demonstrated how Camp's symbolic elements in costume design interacted with the narrative and character identities to convey deeper cultural and social meanings. This analysis provides insights into how Camp style functions as both a visual and cultural critique within the framework of the musical.

This study investigated the architectural expression of Taekpungdang(澤風堂, The Pond and Wind House) built by the Neo-Confucianist Taekdang Lee Sik(澤堂 李植, 1584~1647) from the perspective of the symbolic system of the Zhōuyì(『周易』, Classic of Changes). This study examined the historical context, personal history, and construction process of Taekpungdang at the time of its creation through his collection of writings, the Taekdanggip(澤堂集). The study also estimated the original form of Taekpungdang through field surveys and historical evidence. In addition, the architectural principles and architectural expressions inherent in the Taekpungdang were derived based on the symbolic system of "taekpungdaegwa"(澤風大過) which is Lee Sik's divination and one of the 64 trigrams in the Zhōuyì. Lee Sik, who was knowledgeable in the Zhōuyì, used divination to cope with the chaotic political situation and his own misfortunes. Accordingly, He determined the direction of his life and planned the surrounding environment, architectural structure, and form of Taekpungdang based on the rules and meanings of his divination system. He embodied the architectural space of Taekpungdang with the concept of time and space inherent in the divination of "daegwa",(大過, great exceeding). In addition, he expressed the principle of the generation of palgue,(八卦, the eight trigrams for divination) and the principle of the co-prosperity of ohaeng(五行, the five elements) through the composition of walls and windows of the house. The images of Taekpungdaegwae, which are dongyo(棟撓 wood submerged in the pond) and taekmyeolmok(澤滅木, shaking pillars), were manifested in the form of buildings. Therefore, Taekpungdang can be considered a remarkable example of a building designed through the thorough utilization of the Zhōuyì divination system.

In this paper, 11 and 13 layered step-down piezoelectric transformers were fabricated and their electrical characteristics have been analyzed for AC-adapter. When the voltage is applied to the driving piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the longitudinal direction, the output voltage is generated at the generating piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the thickness direction due to the piezoelectric effects. From the piezoelectric direct and converse effects, symbolic expressions between the electric inputs and outputs of the step-down piezoelectric transformer are derived with an equivalent circuit model. With those expressions, load and frequency characteristics are discussed through the simulations. Output voltage and current from a 11-layered and a 13-layered piezoelectric transformers were measured under the different load and frequency conditions. First we measured resonant frequency from impedance curve and got equivalent impedance value of the piezoelectric transformer from admittance plot. It was shown from experiments that output voltage increase s and resonant frequency changes according to the various resistor loads. Output current decreases inversely proportional to the change of loads. Moreover, the measured output voltage and current are well matched with the simulated results obtained from the proposed equivalent circuit model. Furthermore, a new step-down piezoelectric transformer has been suggested to Increase the output power based on a simulation result having a driving piezoelectric vibrator polarized thickness direction.

The purpose of this study is to develope a creative expression technique in fashion illustration through analyzing applied techniques of the elements related to creative expressions in fashion illustrations. They were investigated in view of line, form, texture, color, space and the results were summarized as follows. In the creative expression using line in the fashion illustration. emotional effects of line created by specific character of mediums and duplicated lines have been applied to visualize movements of the objects. In shape, the transformed figure by destructing. covering or eliminating a part of the figure or the dress has been adapted. In texture. the invented texture reconstructed from actual texture has been applied, collage technique. computer graphic being used to give various images of texture. The creative expressions using color have been achieved by the shading. and spreading effects and the symbolic meaning of color for creating a spatiality in a picture plane and to give emotional effects and visual concentricity. In space, the color perspective together with detailed description. the combination of various points of view and liner perspective have been used to create depth and illusional space in pictorial plane.

This study is about the Characteristic of glass outer skin expressions in space designs of contemporary society, due to the rapid development of information and digital technology. These days, the glass outer skin show the various images and space expressions which symbolize the informations and the society. The contemporary space designers focus on the glass as the structure materials, and purposely use the glass to achieve the structure concept which satisfies the needs of contemporary society. Therefore, it is a valuable work to analyze the meaning of glass, which has been used for the structure. Throughout the work which has been experienced by glass outer skin, theoretical studies have been achieved and recently the 14 examples were chosen as the glass structures based on the experimental research and frequency featured in magazines after year 2000, which we have analyzed in detail. Glass outer skin reflect the phrases of time in modern society, and throughout the meaning of it, we could see that the glass outer skin serve the roles in informations, interface, imaginary modernization, and as a landmark position. Therefore, in this study, we can make a definition of glass outer skin expression based on the situations of modem times by analyzing the symbolic meaning of glass outer skin in contemporary space designs.
