Since 1985, the Ministry of Environment have supported environment conservation model schools (ECMS) to promote more structured and effective environmental education in schools. For driving ECMS to playa central role for sustainable schools in the community in Korea, international trends in foreign environmental education model schools need to be analysed in addition to overall evaluations of the present status. Eco-school related initiatives as whole-school approaches in other countries include Eco-Schools, Green School, Enviro School, and Sustainable School, etc. and most of them are usually involved in international network such as ENSI(Environment and School Initiatives) and FEE(Foundation for Environmental Education). This study was based on the literature analysis, which included available documents and reports of other countries from country reports, web-pages or official documents. Also, face-to-face or email interviews with personnels responsible for running such initiatives in a couple of countries were conducted. Implications for operating and supporting ECMS were provided based on the analysis and investigation on eco-school related initiatives of other countries, which included the main objective of initiatives, overall program direction, supporting methods, criteria for selection or accreditation, evaluation and monitoring.

This study analyzes the reality of the overall operating system, such as recognition and satisfaction with school field support work system of the Education Facilities Management Center, recognition level of restructuring of work areas, and the direction of improvement for school facility maintenance support in various types of future learning environments. To analyze the problem of this study, a survey was conducted on 290 education administrative officials in Gyeonggi-do. First, school site awareness and work performance satisfaction of the Educational Facilities Management Center were evaluated as "below average," and it is necessary to improve the qualitative work area that is practically helpful to schools. Second, in the area of organizational operation, it is desirable to avoid simple tasks with a low evaluation of "below average" and to switch to an operating system that improves efficiency. Third, the need for the facility environment area (professionalism, safety) was the highest, but the center's ability and work processing level were evaluated very low as "below average," so it is urgent to improve the center's capacity. Fourth, in the area of social and educational policy change, the center received a high score for the need for access from the perspective of a learning environment linked to future education. Therefore, a policy review on the restructuring and improvement of work areas suitable for this is necessary.

How are real libraries affected and what are they planning and working on in the current coronavirus era? Based on these questions, the purpose of this study was to analyze the Corona-related trends based on the 2020 implementation plan of the Library Development Comprehensive Plan and the 2021 implementation plan, and to analyze the impact and changes of the libraries in the city and the direction of corona response. The problems in the 2020 municipal libraries are largely attributed to the closure or curtailment of libraries due to the epidemic of coronavirus, budget cuts and budget limits due to coronavirus, declining users' interest and participation, infrastructure limits due to rapid service changes and operational limitations. Furthermore, the improvement measures and future plans could be divided into 1) development and provision of non-face-to-face programs; 2) development and provision of online-based services; 4) expansion of budget for response to demand; 5) provision of space against corona; and other response directions. In addition, in order to systematically cope with coronavirus in the future, it is expected that first, hybrid-type programs and services, second, infrastructure for online and non-face-to-face services, and third, budget utilization flexibility will be required.
GNTECH-ICEE, which this study seeks to investigate and evaluate, demonstrates a new system of training innovative engineers. An essential component of this operation is a Small Engineering Group (SEG) that links professors, students and industrial experts together, to study and apply different techniques in determining the processes and products that relate industrial sectors needs. As an education program, SEG also provides a right direction for educating students, and generates industry-university link based human resources. Through these efforts, GNTECH-ICEE has effectively trained creative, professional, and practical engineers, by operating a variety of programs for meeting industrial needs and enhancing engineering education. SEG has many merits that have influenced its success so far, but the program also faces some challenges. The merits include; strong group bondage, practical ability incubation, and efficient administrative support. In terms of demerits, it is evident that sufficient theoretical education and local small-middle size enterprises (SMEs)' sustainable participation cannot be warranted. Thus, we propose that initiative strategies have been helpful to maximize GNTECH-ICEE's goal of making students into multi-player engineer, but continuously financial and administrative strategies be put into place in order to guarantee SMEs' long-term devotion to the program, and to help create a sustainable network between students and the companies involved.

This study aims to elucidate the content and format of school safety standards to clarify the roles and responsibilities of schools in realizing school safety. Toward this end, difficulties in operating school safety standards at various sites were classified into four small groups with a total of 26 educational administrators, superintendents, and researchers to listen to the opinions of experts in the field and analyze related data. As a result, we comprehensively analyzed in-depth interviews with the respondents who are working at provincial offices of education regarding the proposed school safety standards. We also analyzed the necessity of developing these standards and examining the appropriateness of their content and format. Results were derived from four aspects, including the field applicability of such standards. The study draws the following conclusions. First, it focuses on setting the direction for the development of school safety standards. Second, it highlights the exploration of the system and content of these standards. Third, it pertains to the preparation of a draft of these standards.
South Korea is known for its major manufacturing capabilities in semi-conductor, automobile, and IT industries. However, little is known about the competitive capabilities of South Korea's textile industry. The present study presents information about how Korean textile firms build their competitive capabilities on multiple fronts. Through a case study of two businesses operating in the South Korean textile and apparel industry, this paper illustrates a series of competitiveness enhancing initiatives, starting with the implementation of radio frequency identification (RFID). The main contribution of this article is the focus on how the interdisciplinary nature of the textile and apparel industry can benefit from and optimize the use of Information Technology through sustained efforts on multiple fronts. This study suggests that Korean textile firms approach their competitive capabilities in terms of strategic direction, innovative priorities, and operational focus. In the competitive global business environment, this could be the solution for the textile and apparel industry, by helping for the survival in the upcoming information age. Specifically, by adopting RFID-based SCM, firms can gain a competitive capability that promises sustainable growth in the future.
This paper examines the trend of restructuring and direction of management response in the Large Purse Seine Fishery. The large-scale fishing industry is one of the most popular fishing areas in the coastal area, and it has been developed by providing exclusive supplies of many types of catchy fish, such as mackerel and horse mackerel through physical productivity in fleet operations. However, the Large Purse Seine Fishery has been declining in profitability due to the deterioration of the business environment since 2000. It is at a crossroads whether it will disappear or regenerate as it is. The Large Purse Seine Fishery's current problems are: firstly, the continued deterioration of the fishery business balance and worsening labor problems, secondly, insufficient freshness management and quality control after landing, and thirdly, import competition. The fourth is the intensification of the market competition, which is the evolution of fishing variability and the increase in the proportion of small fish. The fifth is the reduction of the operating fishing ground due to the suspension of mutual fishing in Korea and Japan. To address these problems and suggest management response directions for the survival of large-scale fishing businesses is as follows. First, a sustainable production system should be established through strengthening resource management and promoting international fisheries cooperation. Second, the profitability of fishing management should be improved by introducing a low-cost supplier system and securing a stable labor force. Third, we should improve the leading and quality control of catch, improve the high value-added value of catch through brand development, and secure competitive advantage with imported produce. Finally, the government should establish a cooperative system among private sector, government, and research institutes to push ahead with these tasks and strengthen the competitiveness of the front and rear industries.
Upcycling is the process of repurposing abandoned resources or useless products into products of better quality or higher environmental value. Upcycling products are evaluated to be sustainable because they demonstrate environmental values. However, domestic upcycling companies are operating on a small scale with a slow growth rate. This study aims to examine the value and risk factors of upcycling products from previous literature and clarify the effect of these ambivalent characteristics on purchase intention. This provides direction regarding factors upcycling companies should focus on. The data were collected via an online experiment with women in their 20s and 30s residing in South Korea, nationwide. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 18.0. Analysis of this data suggests that environmental, design, and self-expression value positively affect purchase intention. This extends previous upcycling literature by identifying design and self-expression value as important antecedents of purchase intention. However, in contrast to previous literature, no significant effect of performance or diversity risk was found. These results indicate that ethical attitude has a moderating effect on the relationship between environmental value and purchase intention. This study confirms that consumers intend to purchase upcycling products when they possess not only environmental value but also design and self-expression value.
Purpose - The Korean government has devised intermodal transportation policies and granted subsidies to shippers and logistics companies that made a conversion of transportation means through the policies. This provides support by expanding the complex uniform railroad transportation and overhauling the deteriorated railroad facilities. As for 2013, however, the freight transportation percentage of railroad was 4.5% in tons and 8.5% in ton kilometers. Meanwhile, since the 1990s, developed countries such as the U.S. and Europe have been trying to expand intermodal freight transport with a legal and institutional support to build a logistics system corresponding with social and economic environmental changes. In this study, I set out to examine the effects of the intermodal freight transport policies in the EU and the U.S., and to explore the direction of setting up a rail intermodal transport system in South Korea. Research design, data, and methodology - The paper used a qualitative research methodology through the literature review. First, was an overview of Intermodal transportation in the EU, U.S. and UN. Second, it describes the development of transport in Europe and the U.S. with particular emphasis on intermodal freight transport. Third, it explores the direction of setting up a intermodal freight transport in South Korea. The last section contains concluding remarks. Results - As for the EU, it has been promoting integration between transport and intermodal logistics network designs while utilizing ITS or ICT and supports for rail freight intermodal by giving reduction to a facilities fee or subsidizing for rail freight in order to minimize the cost of external due to freight transport. On the other hand, as for the U.S., it has been made up of an industrial-led operating project and has been promoting it to improve accessibility between intermodal hubs and cargo terminals through intermodal corridor program, and an intermodal cargo hub access corridor projects, etc. Moreover, it has tried to construct intermodal transport system using ITS or ICT and to remove Barrier. As a result, in these countries, the proportion of intermodal freight transport is going to be the second significant transport compared with rail and maritime transport. An Effective rail intermodal transport system is needed in South Korea, as seen in the case of these countries. In order to achieve this object, the following points are required to establish radical infrastructure policy; diversify investment financing measures taken under public-private partnerships, legal responsibilities, improvement of utilization of existing facilities to connect the railway terminal and truck terminal, and enhancement service competitiveness through providing cargo tracking and security information that combines the ITS and ICT. Conclusions - This study will be used as a basis for policy and support for intermodal freight transport in South Korea. In the future, it is also necessary to examine from the perspective of the shipper companies using the rail intermodal transport, ie, recognition of shipper, needed institutional supports, and transportation demand forecasting and cost-effective analysis of the railway infrastructure systems improvement.

This study is a case study to identify the spatial composition and structural problems of existing schools for spatial innovation as a future school that can operate a credit system for old high schools and establish a mid-to-long-term arrangement plan as a credit system operating school capable of various teaching and learning in the future. The study results are as follows: First, most of the problems of the old high schools entailed that there was very poor connectivity between buildings as most of them were arranged in a single, standard design-type unit building and distributed in multiple buildings. In addition, the floor plan of each building is suggested to be a structure in which student exchange and rest functions cannot be achieved during the break period due to the spatial composition of the classroom and hallway concepts. Second, in the direction of the high school space configuration for future school space innovation, the arrangement plan should be established by reflecting the collective arrangement in consideration of the shortening of the movement route and the expansion of subject areas due to the movement of students on the premise of the subject classroom system. Moreover, it is desirable to provide a square-type space for rest and exchange in the central area where communication and exchange are possible according to the moving class. Third, as the evaluation criteria for relocating old high schools, a space program is prepared based on the number of classes in the future, and legal analysis of school land use and land use efficiency analysis considering regional characteristics are conducted. Based on such analysis data, mid-to-long-term land use plans and space arrangement plans for the entire school space such as the school facility complex are established.
