On the purpose to analyze the survival rate of startup companies since their establishment, the companies' survival rate was investigated by surviving period. The average and coefficient of variation(C.V.) of the startup companies' survival rate were examined with the comparison of urban and rural areas, and primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. In this study, the variation of total numbers of new-established companies, from 1998 to 2012, were analyzed with micro-data of the Statistics Korea, 'The Census on Establishments'. The results show that the survival rate of primary industry companies largely fluctuate and don't be stabled during the whole surviving periods, whereas secondary and tertiary industry companies show stabilized survival rate after fifth year from their establishment. Especially, the startup companies of primary industry located at urban areas show the largest fluctuation and the most vulnerable stability of survival rate. It is concluded that the surviving period of primary industry companies don't guarantee their survival, while survival rate of secondary and tertiary industry company became stable after five years from their establishment.
Objective: This study was to present the survival of advanced cancer patients and explore the influence of various factors on survival time as well as survival rate. The results provide guidelines for clinical practice of cancer treatment. Methods: Follow-up of 674 advanced cancer patients was performed in a hospice. The median survival time and survival rate were calculated, and survival analysis was carried out. Results: The median survival time of all patients dying from cancer was 12.0 months and the average survival time was 25.1 months. The 1-year cumulative survival rate was $0.518{\pm}0.020$ and the 5-year cumulative survival rate was $0.088{\pm}0.012$. The following factors showed significant impacts on survival rate: gender, age, primary diagnosis, surgery and the time when pain appeared. Conclusions: The survival time of patients with advanced cancer was relatively short. Major approaches to extend the survival time include early detection, early diagnosis, effective surgical treatment, pain control, reasonable supply of nutrients and multiple interventions.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to evaluate 7-year survival rate of implants placed without bone graft in posterior maxilla and compare the survival rate by the age and gender of patient, length and diameter of implant, region of implant placement, bicortical engagement of fixture, and connection of prosthesis. Material and methods : 78 patients (170 implants) who visited our institution from 2002 to 2007 and were followed up with panoramic view and medical records. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Log Rank (Mantel-Cox) test were used. Results and conclusions : A 7-year cumulative survival rate for implants placed in posterior maxilla without sinus graft was 95.3%. The survival rate in men was 91.8%, significantly lower than 98.8% in woman.(p<0.05). However, the survival rate by the length of the implants did not show any significant differences.(p>0.05), while the wide platform implant resulted in 85% survival rate which was statistically lower than 98.5% in regular platform. The posterior maxillary implants engaged bicortically showed 97.6% of 7-year Survival rate, comparing 88.6% in not engaged implants. The survival rate of the single implant was 91.2%, while 98.5% in splinted prosthesis. Therefore, the bicortical engagement of the fixtures and splinted prosthesis may be recommended to get a long-term survival rate in posterior maxilla.
Background: As a descriptive study targeting 2,068 cancer patients as men of national merit in 2013, this study aims to provide the basic data for systematizing the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer by comparatively analyzing the 5-year survival rate. Methods: This study researched the survival of cancer patients through Electronic Medical Record and Patriots-Veterans Qualification Program, targeting 2,068 newly-diagnosed cancer patients verified in five veterans hospitals and consigned management system. This study verified differences between general characteristics of cancer patients as men of national merit and analyzed their survival rate. Results: The cancer patients as men of national merit were super-aged as their average age was 72.5. In the analysis of general characteristics of five major prevalent cancers, there were statistically significant differences according to age, region, cancer diagnostic path, differentiation, diagnostic method, treatment method, SEER stage, and survival period, except for the types of the man of national merit (p<0.001). The whole survival rate of cancer patients as men of national merit was 50%. The 5-year survival rates of predisposing cancers were shown as prostate cancer (79%), colorectal cancer (64%), gastric cancer (57%), liver cancer (32%), and lung cancer (12%). In the cancer diagnostic path, all the predisposing cancers showed the highest survival rate in medical examination. In the treatment method, the surgery showed the highest survival rate. The cancer patients as men of national merit showed a lower survival rate than the general cancer patients of Korea. Conclusion: It would be needed to guarantee the honorable and happy life through health recovery as special treatment of contribution and sacrifice of super-aged men of national merit by increasing the cancer survival rates through regular checkup, early diagnosis, and high-quality treatment system that could have important effects on the survival rate according to the occurrence of cancers.
Objectives: The aim of the present review was to evaluate survival rate and various factors associated with survival of osseointegrated implants. Patients and methods: The clinical comparisons were performed to evaluate survival rate of 794 endosseous implants that had been inserted between 2004 through 2008 in relation to sex and age of patients, position of implant, implant system and surface characteristics, length and diameter of implant, and bone graft technique. Results: The survival rate of implant was 94.3% in posterior area of maxilla and 98.6% in posterior area of mandible by position of implant, a statistically significant difference. As to diameter of implant, survival rate was 98.4% between the 4.0 and 4.5 mm and 75.0% in larger than 5.0 mm, that was statistically significant difference. There was a statistically significant difference regard to bone graft and surgical technique. The implant survival rate was 89.0% in a placement site which performed sinus lifting, and in case of implant placement with guided bone regeneration technique and without bone grafting was 97.6% and 100% each. Conclusion: According to these findings, this study establishes a relationship between survival rate of implant and position, surface characteristics, diameter of implant and bone graft technique.
This study was carried out to investigate on the survival rate and in vitro developmental rate of bisected porcine embryos and immature oocytes by manipulator and micropipette. Bisected embryos and immature oocytes cultured for 1∼5 days in TCM 199 medium with 20% FCS. Survival rate was defined as development rate on in vitro culture or FDA-test. The results are summarized as follows ; 1. The survival rate of bisected porcine embryos and oocytes were 26.1%, 22.7%, respectively. The survival rate of bisected embryos and oocytes was significantly lower than that of non-bisection embryos(62.5%). 2. The survival rate of bisected porcine embryos in cultured for 12, 24, 48, 72 hrs with 20% FCS+TCM-199 medium were 26.9%, 19.2%, 19.2% and 11.5%, respectively. 3. The in-vitro developmental rate with and without zona pellucida of bisected porcine embryos by micromanipulator were 30.8%, 25.0%, respectively.

Grass breeding starts with the process of selecting grass with good traits, and this operation consumes a lot of resources. Therefore, there is a need for an efficient screening method. Stolon is a unit for the storage of carbohydrates and vegetative propagation, which enhances grass growth and grass sod. Grass varieties with active production of stolons have excellent traits because they reproduce quickly and have a high density. To select grass with such a trait, the survival rate and the production rate of stolon after transplantation of 72 grass germplasms were investigated. After transplantation, the survival rate ranged from 75% to 100%. The majority of the grass cultivars showed a 100% survival rate. Therefore, the group was divided into two groups: A grass variety showing 100% survival and a grass variety that did not show 100% survival. The grass cultivar group, which showed a 100% survival rate after transplantation, included 61 turf varieties, and the rates of stolon production in these grass varieties ranged from 0 to 100%. In contrast, 10 varieties were included in the grass cultivar group that did not show 100% survival after transplantation. These cultivars had a stolon production rate of 0 to 33%. The results suggest that grass germplasms with a 100% survival rate should be selected.
Purpose: Single implants, of which screw loosening has been observed frequently, presents problems such as fixtures fractures, marginal bone loss, and inflammation of the soft tissue around the implant. However, the single implant is more conservative, cost effective, and predictable compared to the 3 unit bridge with respect to the long-term outcome. This study evaluated the survival rate as well as future methods aimed at increasing the survival rate in single implants in posterior teeth. Methods: Among the implants placed in the Dankook University Dental Hospital department of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery from January 2001 to June 2008, 599 implants placed in the maxillar and mandibular posterior were evaluated retrospectively. Survival rates were investigated according to implant location, cause of tooth loss, gender, age, general disease, fixture diameter and length, surface texture, implant type and shape, presence of bone graft, surgery stage, surgeons, bone quality and opposite teeth. Results: Out of 599 single implants in posterior teeth, 580 implants survived and the survival rate was 96.8%. The difference in survival rate was statistically significant according to the implant location. The survival rate was low (84.2%) in implants exhibiting a wide diameter (${\geq}5.1mm$) and the surface treated by the acid etching group demonstrated a significantly lower survival rate (91.1%). One stage surgical procedure, which implemented a relatively better bone quality survival rate (100%), was higher than the two stage surgical procedure (96.1%). The survival rate of type IV bone quality (75%) was significantly lower than the other bone quality. Conclusion: Single posterior teeth implant treatments should use an improved surface finishing fixture as well as careful and safe procedures when performing implant surgery in the maxilla premolar and molar regions since bone quality is poor.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the outcomes of endodontic treatment of mandibular second molar with C-shaped canal in elderly patients and related factors affecting the survival of the tooth. Materials and Methods: From 2010 to 2015, the survival rate following endodontic treatment was evaluated in elderly patients over 60 years who visited the Veterans Health Service Medical Center for endodontic treatment. The presence of C-shaped canals was confirmed using clinical records and radiographic features. Patient's age, sex, systemic diseases, tooth location, vitality, signs and symptoms, fractures, caries, apical radiolucency, canal shaping methods, sealer leakage, filling voids, and restoration of prosthesis were included in the analyses as confounding variables. The survival rate of teeth was analyzed using Kaplan-Meire analysis and the relationship between the survival rate and variables was analyzed using Simple and Multiple Cox regression analysis. Result: In total, 107 teeth in elderly patients had C-shaped canal. The survival rate of teeth that received endodontic treatment was 63.70%. None of the factors investigated significantly influenced the survival rate (P>0.05). Conclusion: In elderly patients with C-shaped canal, the survival rate after root canal treatment was not significantly different from that of other mandibular molars.
The aim of this study was to determine the condition of supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) in implant patients and the effect of SPT on implant long-term survival. Implants placed at the Dept. of Periodontology, Chonnam National University Dental Hospital over a 5-year period, were traced for up to 8 years. Patients who had visited the hospital at least once a year were defined as regular SPT, and patients who were treated by active periodontal therapy were defined as patients with periodontitis. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed based on the observation periods, and the effect of SPT and history of periodontitis on implant survival assessed by chisquare test. A total of 183 patients (age: 21-91, 98 males and 85 females), and 508 implants were used for this study. Three hundred eight implants were under SPT and 87 implants was under regular SPT. For the patients with periodontitis 136 implants were placed. The 5-year survival rate was 94.8%. The overall survival rate in patients who received SPT was 97.1% and 91.0% for those who did not (p=0.004). The survival rate in patients who received regular SPT was 97.7%, and 96.8% for patients received irregular SPT. The survival rate was 93.4% in patients with periodontitis and 95.2% in patients without periodontitis. Among patients with periodontitis, the survival rate was 100.0% in patients who received regular SPT and 89.2% for irregular SPT (p=0.012). These results suggest that regular SPT improves implant survival rate and is more effective in patients with periodontitis.
