Full 3D Level Set Simulation of Nanodot Fabrication using FIBs

  • The level set method has recently become popular in the simulation of semiconductor processes such as etching, deposition and photolithography, as it is a highly robust and accurate computational technique for tracking moving interfaces. In this research, full three-dimensional level set simulation has been developed for the investigation of focused ion beam processing. Especially, focused ion beam induced nanodot formation was investigated with the consideration of three-dimensional distribution of redeposition particles which were obtained by Monte-Carlo simulation. Experimental validations were carried out with the nanodots that were fabricated using focused $Ga^+$ beams on Silicon substrate. Detailed description of level set simulation and characteristics of nanodot formation will be discussed in detail as well as surface propagation under focused ion beam bombardment.

  • In this paper I present a system that with infrared vision sense tracks the position and orientation of a wireless object on a tabletop display surface. The system offers two types of improvements over existing computer vision tracking approaches. First, the system tracks an object accurately without susceptibility to changes in lighting conditions. Second, the system tracks not only the orientation but button click state of the object. This system can detect these changes in real time. Finally, I present an application of the system : Color Lab Box.

The Application of FBNWT in Wave Overtopping Analysis

  • A 2-D Fluent-based numerical wave tank(FBNWT) capable of simulating wave propagating and overtopping is presented. The FBNWT model is based on the Reynolds averaged Naiver-Stokes equations and VOF free surface tracking method. The piston wave maker system is realized by dynamic mesh technology(DMT) and user defined function(UDF). The non-iteration time advancement(NITA) PISO algorithm is employed for the velocity and pressure coupling. The FBNWT numerical solutions of linear wave propagation have been validated by analytical solutions. Several overtopping problems are simulated and the prediction results show good agreements with the experimental data, which demonstrates that the present model can be utilized in the corresponding analysis.

  • In this study, we numerically simulate the condensational growth of micron-sized particles traveling through a pipe filled with humidified air. Using the finite volume method and Lagrangian particle tracking technique, the mixture of particle-laden flow with moist air in a T-juction pipe is simulated. The condensational growth of particles is calculated by considering the mass transfer of vapor in the air onto the particle surface. The results indicate that the growth rate of the particles increases as the relative humidity of air is higher. Furthermore, the placement of a porous media with low permeability in the pipe could enhance the degree of condensational growth.

  • This paper presents a method for detecting faults in data obtained from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) of surface vessels. The data include latitude, longitude, Speed Over Ground (SOG), and Course Over Ground (COG). We derive two methods that utilize two models: a constant state model and a derivative augmented model. The constant state model incorporates noise variables to account for state changes, while the derivative augmented model employs explicit variables such as first or second derivatives, to model dynamic changes in state. Generally, the derivative augmented model detects faults more promptly than the constant state model, although it is vulnerable to potentially overlooking faults. The effectiveness of this method is validated using AIS data collected at a harbor. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach can automatically detect faults in AIS data, thus offering partial assistance for enhancing navigation safety.

Mixing Analysis of Floating Pollutant Using Lagrangian Particle Tracking Model (Lagrangian 입자추적모형을 이용한 부유성 오염물질의 혼합해석)

  • In this research, mixing behavior of the floating pollutant such as oil spill accidents was analyzed by studying the advection-diffusion of GPS floaters at water surface. The LPT (Lagrangian Particle Tracking) model of EFDC (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Computer Code) was used to simulate the motion of the GPS floater tracer. In the field experiment, 35 GPS floaters were injected at the Samun Bridge of Nakdong River. GPS floaters traveled to downstream about 700 m for 90 minutes. The field data by the GPS floater experiments were compared with the simulation in order to calibrate the parameter of LPT model. The turbulent diffusion coefficient of LPT model was determined as $K_H/hu^*$ = 0.17 from the scatter diagram. The arrival time of peak concentration and transverse diffusion from the simulation results were similar with the experiments from the concentration curves. Numerical experiments for anticipation of damage from floating pollutant were conducted in the same reach of the Nakdong River and the results show that the pollutant cloud transported to the left bank where the Hwawon pumping station is located. For this reason, it is suggested that the proper action should be needed to maintain the safety of the water withdrawal at the Hwawon pumping station.

RealBook: A Tangible Electronic Book Based on the Interface of TouchFace-V (RealBook: TouchFace-V 인터페이스 기반 실감형 전자책)

  • In this paper, we proposed a tangible RealBook based on the interface of TouchFace-V which is able to recognize multi-touch and hand gesture. The TouchFace-V is applied projection technology on a flat surface such as table, without constraint of space. The system's configuration is addressed installation, calibration, and portability issues that are most existing front-projected vision-based tabletop display. It can provide hand touch and gesture applying computer vision by adopting tracking technology without sensor and traditional input device. The RealBook deals with the combination of each advantage of analog sensibility on texts and multimedia effects of e-book. Also, it provides digitally created stories that would differ in experiences and environments with interacting users' choices on the interface of the book. We proposed e-book that is new concept of electronic book; named RealBook, different from existing and TouchFace-V interface, which can provide more direct viewing, natural and intuitive interactions with hand touch and gesture.

Numerical Investigation on Two-Dimensional Inviscid Edge Receeding of a Stationary Fluid Sheet (정지된 2차원 액체 필름 끝단의 비점성 수축특성에 관한 수치연구)

  • A two-dimensional numerical method for inviscid two-fluid flows with evolution of density interface is developed, and an initially stationary two-dimensional fluid sheet surrounded by another fluid is studied. The interface between two fluids is modeled as a vortex sheet, and the flow field with the evolution of interface is solved by using vortex-in-cell/front-tracking method. The edge of the sheet is pulled back into the sheet due to surface tension and a blob is formed at the edge. This blob and fluid sheet are connected by a thin neck. In the inviscid limit, such process of the blob and neck formation is examined in detail and their kinematic characteristics are summarized with dimensionless parameters. The edge recedes at and the capillary wave propagating into the fluid sheet must be considered for better understanding of the edge receding.

On the Characteristics of the Water Quality Changes due to the Development Phases of Pusan Port (부산항의 개발단계별 수질환경변동특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of the water quality variation in relation to the change of water exchange rate with respect to the development phases of the Pusan port. To clarify the characteristics, water exchange caused by the variations of coastline shape and water surface area was examined by the numerical experiments using the Lagrangian particle tracking model based on 2-D shallow water equation. As the results of numerical experiments, it was proved that the water exchange in the Pusan port was decreased mainly due to the port development and the breakwaters construction. During the port development phases from 1875 to 1998, 35% of the sea-space in the port had decreased to make hinterland spaces. This resulted in the loss of wet-land and coastline change as well as decrease of the water exchange rate at the sea side. The city population in that period had rapidly increased from several thousands to 4 millions, resulting in the large discharge of sewages into the port area. Under the these environmental conditions, it can be clearly said that the water quality in the Pusan port is sensitively affected by the discharge of urban sewages decrease of the water exchange rate in relation to port and urban developments. In the study, the temporal changes of water quality were discussed with respect to the port development phases. It was clear that the water quality wad controlled by the exchange rate change under the port development as well as the input impact into the port from the urbanized city area. To make clean sea of the Pusan port, it is suggested that the sewage control, the water exchange and coastline control should be systematically checked under the concept of eco-friendly development and environmental management.
