  • GUI program for analyzing directional spectrum waves is introduced in this paper Basically, MLM (Maximum Likelihood Method) was used for this program which was additionally consisted of performing spectral and time domain analysis for two dimensional irregular waves. Moreover, the directionality of directional spectrum waves generated by single summation and double summation method was investigated based on MLM. The directionality from each summation method has good agreement compared with that of target wave spreading function in the case of single wide directional spectrum waves. In addition to this, the resolution of directionality in double summation method was investigated as introducing coherence function between each wave component

  • Among the many parameters describing water quality, total nitrogen content(TN) is regarded as important one in relation to water quality management of the waterbodies for its role in eutrophication process. This study evaluated for accuracy, convenience and promptness of nitrogen analysis methods : (1)UV spectrophotometric method, (2)summation method, (3)cadmium reduction method. And, the detection limit of each method was calculated using EPA method. The UV spectrophotometric method after oxidation appears to be more convenient and accurate in determination of the TN contents than the summation method and cadmium reduction method. The summation method is necessary to separate determinations of the organic nitrogen, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. And, because summation method has many other methods for each contents, it can be detected for wide range of concentration.

  • Background: Females generally have a lower pain and temporal summation threshold than men. However, the results of studies designed to evaluate gender differences in the thresholds of heat pain and the temporal summation have been inconsistent. Newly developed device, CHEPS (Contact Heat Evoked Potential Stimulation) model of PATHWAY, have superiority on its fast rise and return time in temperature. Therefore we investigated gender differences in heat pain and temporal summation threshold. Methods: Forty healthy volunteers (20 males and 20 females) were enrolled in this study. A thermode was applied to the volar side of each volunteer's left forearm and heat pain and the temporal summation threshold was then measured. The heat pain threshold was estimated using the staircase method by starting from $36^{\circ}C$ and then increasing the temperature in $0.5^{\circ}C$ increments. The temporal summation threshold was estimated by applying five successive stimulation of the same temperature starting at $2^{\circ}C$ lower than the heat pain threshold and then increasing the temperature in $0.5^{\circ}C$ increments. Results: The mean heat pain thresholds was found to be $41.63{\pm}1.63^{\circ}C$ for males and $41.60{\pm}1.84^{\circ}C$ for females and the temporal summation thresholds were found to be $40.83{\pm}1.64^{\circ}C$ for males and $40.77{\pm}1.93^{\circ}C$ for females. The differences between males and females were not statistically significant. Conclusions: The result of this study suggested that there are no gender differences in heat pain and temporal summation threshold.

  • In the present paper, we obtain two new and interesting finite summation formulae for the H-function of two variables in a very neat and elegant form. The novel feature of the paper is that the method used here in deriving these formulae is simple and direct and does not impose heavy restrictions on the parameters involved. On account of the most general nature of the H-function of two variables, a number of related finite summation formulae for a number of other useful functions can also be obtained as special cases of our results. As an illustration, we have obtained here from our main results, the corresponding finite summation formulae for $Kamp{\acute{e}}$ de $F{\acute{e}}riet$ function. Appell's function and Gauss' hypergeometric function which are also believed to be new.

  • The Hotelling transform is based on statistical properties of an image. The principal uses of this transform are in data compression. The basic concept of the Hotelling transform is that the choice of basis vectors pointing the direction of maximum variance of the data. This property can be used for rotation normalization. Many objects of interest in pattern recognition applications can be easily standardized by performing a rotation normalization that aligns the coordinate axes with the axes of maximum variance of the pixels in the object. However, this transform can not be used to rotation normalization of color images directly. In this paper, we propose a new method for rotation normalization of color images based on the Hotelling transform. The Hotelling transform is performed to calculate basis vectors of each channel. Then the summation of vectors of all channels are processed. Rotation normalization is performed using the result of summation of vectors. Experimental results showed the proposed method can be used for rotation normalization of color images effectively.

  • This study is intended to suggest a more reasonable and practical method of estimating discount & capitalization rate for valuation of closely-held culture content business, that is, to modify the Buildup Summation Model(which is recommended for the closely-held business by the NACVA) by adopting the weighted ratings in the CT Project Investment Evaluation of the Korea Culture Contents Association to risk factors of the Buildup Summation Model. This method is ease to apply for closely-held culture content business and has advantages in applying the weighted rates based on the characteristics of respective culture contents. And it can make up for the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) which shows generally low discount rates.

  • The first object of this note is to show that a summation formula due to Padmanabham for three-variables hypergeometric function $X_8$ introduced by Exton can be proved in a different (from Padmanabham's and his observation) yet, in a sense, conventional method, which has been employed in obtaining a variety of identities associated with hypergeometric series. The second purpose is to point out that one of two seemingly new hypergeometric identities due to Exton was already recorded and the other one is easily derivable from the first one. A corrected and a little more compact form of a general transform involving hypergeometric functions due to Exton is also given.

  • Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. Recently, iris information is used in many fields such as access control and information security. It is important for the iris recognition system to extract the feature which is invariant to changes in iris patterns. Those changes can be occurred by the influence of lights, changes in the size of the pupil. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on vector summation of gradient orientation vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces processing time with simple vector calculation, requires small feature space and has comparable performance to the well-known previous methods.
