  • LED lighting may cause different sensation and color appearance due to the different spectral power distributions compared to those of conventional lightings. Particularly, the CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) of LED lighting has a major effect on color appearance so that this study conducted an experiment through a subjective evaluation and luminance measurement for effective color appearance in a space. This study performed a subjective evaluation under the seven different LED CCT conditions, and color appearance was evaluated with major five colors in a customized lighting box. In addition, luminance measurement was conducted for each CCT and color condition to compare the results from a subjective evaluation. The results of this study may help to select a proper LED CCT for specific color conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to make a scale for measuring the subjective hand of fabrics. For this purpose subjective hand expressions which were published in the journals were reviewed. 11 pairs(9 biopolar-pairs, 2 unipolar-pairs) were selected after searching the definitions in a dictionary followed by focus group interview and survey. To find out if these terminological biopolar pairs are agreed with the biopolar pairs in human sensation, a survey of fabric hand was undertaken using a scale consisted of 20 words(18 words from biopolar-pairs, 2 words from unipolar pairs). Among 11 pairs, 10 pairs except [taktakhada-poksinhada] were accepted as biopolar pair of word terminologically and sensuously. [taktakhada-poksinhada] was recognized as a biopolar pair terminologically but not sensuously. These 20 words were classified as 5 factors-surface contour, density, flexibility, dampness, and extensibility

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the thermophysiological responses and subjective sensations of clothing materials with different water transfer property investigated in exercising and resting subjects at an ambient temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and a relative humidity of 40%. Two kinds of clothing ensemble were tested: 100% cotton with highly water-absorbent but slowly dry properties(C) and 100% polyester with quickly water-absorbent and dry properties by four capillary channels(QADP). Seven apparently healthy male participants each undertook two series of experiments comprised 10-min of rest, 20-min of exercise with 70% of $VO_{2max}$ on a treadmill and 20-min of recovery. Mean skin temperature was significantly lower in QADP than in C during exercise and recovery. Clothing microclimate temperature was significantly lower in QADP during exercise and clothing surface temperature was also lower in QADP especially during recovery. Also, clothing surface humidity was significantly higher in QADP after the later half of exercise. The concentration of blood lactic acid tended to decrease to a lower level at recovery 3 minutes when wearing QADP rather than C clothing ensemble. Metabolic energy was marginally significantly less during the second half of exercise in QADP. Body mass loss tended to be greater in C than in QADP. The participants had better scores in thermal sensation, comfortable sensation and wetness in QADP during exercise and recovery. These results show that functional materials with quickly water-absorbent and dry properties can alleviate heat strain and induce more comfortable clothing microclimates and subjective sensations in the exercise-induced hyperthermia.

  • This work reports the case of a middle cerebral artery infarction patient with hyperhidrosis and left upper extremity paresthesia whose condition improved following Korean medicine treatment. The patient was hospitalized for 10 days and treated with herbal medicine, mainly Hwanggigyeji-tang, and acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and moxibustion. The hyperhidrosis was clinically classified and the patient's subjective discomfort in this regard was also checked. A subjective percentage of strength and sensation in the left extremity was evaluated to assess the clinical effects of the treatment. After treatment, the hyperhidrosis classification improved from Grade 3 to Grade 0, and the patient's subjective discomfort was greatly improved and continued for the two weeks after discharge. In addition, subjective strength and sensation improved by 20% and 5%, respectively, compared to time of admission. These results suggest that Korean medicine is effective in treating paresthesia after stroke and long-lasting hyperhidrosis.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of color characteristics on tactile sensation / sensibility image of silk fabrics and to provide prediction models for their tactile sensation/sensibility image by both mechanical properties and color characteristics. As results, some of tactile sensation/sensibility terms including 'smooth', 'buoyant', 'thick', 'stiff', 'unique', 'casual', 'rural', and 'modern' seemed to be influenced by color characteristics such as achromatic/chromatic and hue / tone as well as by mechanical properties of silk. Moreover, red or green silk was more strongly felt than gray ones for 'thick' and 'stiff' as well as pale or vivid was. On the other hands, 'Rural' and 'casual' were respectively evaluated more highly for green, pale, or vivid silk. These results imply that color could give an effect on subjective tactile sensation / sensibility. Finally, prediction models for some of tactile sensation / sensibility of silk fabrics by both mechanical properties and color characteristics were established.

  • Globus sensation is a continuous, intermittent, non-painful sensation of lumps or foreign substances in the throat. It was reported that 13.7% of patients developed globus sensations after COVID-19 infection. A 73-year-old male patient with a globus sensation after a COVID-19 infection was admitted to the ◯◯ Oriental Medicine Hospital and treated with herbal medicine (Banhahubak-tang, Sosiho-tang). Subjective symptoms of globus sensation were measured with the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) daily and found to reduce. The effect persisted during his admission. In conclusion, Korean medicine, including Banhahubak-tang, can be effective for patients with globus sensations after COVID-19 infections.

  • This study is to measure the thermal resistance of 7 types of Parka of different materials with thermal manikin and to compare their effects on physiological responses & subjective wear sensations. Following are the results obtained from the experiments 1) From the thermal manikin experiment, i) As an outer layer, although not significant, water proof fabric was warmer than water proof-vapor permeable fabric. ii) In case of insulating material, down was better for thermal resistance than polyester wadding of the same thickness. Moreover, as the down was thicker, it had more efficiency in thermal resistance. However, the marginal efficiency of thickness was found to be decreasing. 2) From the male-subject experiments, i) Chest temperature, mean skin temperature & microclimate temperature showed the same results on thermal resistance as those of the thermal manikin experiment. ii) Only during rest periods, there was a significant difference among 5 insulating materials in the sense of microclimate humidity. The almost same conclusion was obtained from the above experiments. Even the outer layer did not significantly affect thermal resistance & subjective wear sensation, insulating materials had a significant influence upon them. But in case of 3.5 cm down, it gave less comfortable than that of the thinner. Therefore the optional one for the best comfort & thermal resistance among 7 combinatins is the outer layer of water proff-vapor permeable & insulating material of 2.1 cm down.

  • The actual clothing conditions were surveyed to diagnose clothing condition of Korean female in the view point of the adaptation to the thermal environment according to seasonal changes. Then, clothing microclimate, physiological responses, and subjective sensation were investigated through wearing trials on human body in climatic chamber based on the results from the survey. Factors to evaluate validity of clothing condition were clothing weight, clothing microclimate, physiological response of human body, and subjective sensation. The results were as follows: 1. Clothing weight per body surface area of the season was $856g/m^{2}$, $439g/m^{2}$ in summer, $630g/m^{2}$ in fall, and $1184g/m^{2}$ in winter. Cold - resistance of Korean female in office was superior to Japanese, inferior to residents of rural areas of Korea, and similar to male in office. However, in heat - resistance, female in office was inferior to residents of rural areas of Korea. 2. In spring, fall, winter, clothing microclimate temperature was a little higher than that in summer. Therefore, it was not a desirable wearing condition even though the clothing microclimate was comfortable zone. 3. Mean skin temperature of female in office was including within the range of Winslow's comfortable zone, but the range of comfortable zone in mean skin temperature of female was more narrow than Winslow's. Thus, it has problem for female to adaptation to thermal environment.
