간호대학생의 비판적 사고성향, 메타인지에 대한 상황모듈학습 프로그램 적용 효과 (Effect of a Situational Module Learning Course on Critical Thinking Disposition and Metacognition in Nursing Students: A Quasi-experimental Study)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effect of a situational module learning course on critical thinking disposition and metacognition in sophomore nursing students. Methods: This study was a non-equivalent control-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design; the participants included 64 nursing students (32 in the experimental and 32 in the control group) from two Korean universities. Critical thinking disposition and metacognition between the control and intervention groups were measured before and after program participation. Data collection was conducted between September 1 and December 15, 2016. An independent t-test was used to determine differences in critical thinking disposition and metacognition between the groups and Pearson's correlations were measured for correlation with critical thinking disposition and metacognition. Results: The intervention group showed higher critical thinking disposition (t=3.16, p=.002); intellectual integrity (t=2.85, p=.006); and open-mindedness (t=3.30, p=.002) relative to those of the control group. However, there were no statistical differences in metacognition between the two groups (t=-0.14, p=.888). A significant positive correlation between metacognition and critical thinking disposition was found. (r=.62, p<.001). Conclusion: The situational module learning course developed in this study could be used to promote critical thinking disposition in nursing students.

  • Documentation is a typical method that helps students to understand a program for implementation and execute error correction and maintenance cost-effectively. Guidelines for components that organize documentation should be provided to enable to express computational thinking and such components also should be linked to coding process. In this paper, we focused on the documentation format to guide elementary school students, who were beginners in computational thinking, to express computational thinking. The improvement in the expression of computational thinking was analyzed based on the documentation format applied to the class, and practical tips on the importance of components organizing the documentation format were proposed.

  • The purpose of this study was to research the brain development program of childrens. Information gained from this study may be useful to school teachers who seek educational psychologist who are willing to guide students with potential minds. This study aimed to answer the research question as follows; What educational brain development program and strategegies did the children thinking as having influenced their potential minds. What educational brain development program and strategegies did the teachers thinking as having influenced their potential minds. To investigate the elementary students in kang seo gu bang hwa dong were selected. And the writing mind maps were examined for reports of mind maps. Some of the more salient findings are presented: Most of the elementary school 30 students came from very well mind maps where mind potential mind toward thinking. this study of the elementary school teacher came form well mind maps where mind potential mind toward thinking. The mind maps seemed to have been influenced positively in children brain development. Educational condition and events such as recommendation from mind maps had more effect on thinking than learning experiences had.

간호대학생의 핵심역량 구조모형 (A Structural Equation Model on Core Competencies of Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose and test a predictive model that could explain and predict the core competencies of nursing students. Methods: A survey using a structured questionnaire was conducted with 361 nursing students. The data was analyzed using SPSS Windows 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results: The elements that directly influence the core competencies of nursing students were satisfaction with their academic discipline (nursing) and critical thinking disposition in which the disposition toward critical thinking directly influenced their satisfaction with nursing as an academic discipline and clinical practice. Conversely, satisfaction with clinical practice indirectly influenced core competencies through critical thinking disposition. Conclusion: This result provides the basic data for a competence-based curriculum intent on strengthening the core competencies (communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning) by improving satisfaction with both clinical practice with their major and disposition toward critical thinking on the part of nursing students.

  • The purpose of the study is to examine how effects of activities using Google SketchUp on students' spatial ability and 3D geometric thinking in measuring the volume of solid figures. By comparing the results from pre- and post-tests between the experimental group and control group, we found that activities using Google SketchUp help students improve their spatial ability in the spatial orientation and visualization. In addition, more than half students in the experimental group moved from level 4 up to level 7 in thinking process of measuring the volume in terms of Battista(2004)'s levels. This study suggests that the instruction with Google SketchUp can help to improve students' spatial ability and 3D geometric thinking in the regular class in middle school. In addition, SketchUp can be an advanced technological tool to support students' self-directed learning, which create an efficient educational environment and a great opportunity to learn geometry in an effective manner.

Models and Modeling Behavior: A Look at the Critical Thinking Skills of Biology Majors

  • This paper describes the types of models that biology majors use and how they go about making their models in learning key concepts in biology such as the cell membrane, cytoskeleton and cell structure. Initially, a total of 44 biology students from all year levels enrolled in the second semester of calendar year 2008-2009 were asked to make their respective models of the cell membrane, cytoskeleton and cell structure. They were also asked to answer an open-ended questionnaire. Of the 44, only 20 (five from each year level) were randomly selected for a one-on-one interview. Results showed that the student-generated models from all year levels were mostly analogies, some textbook definitions and occasional drawings. In making their model, students first read the text; second, outline similarities in structure and function or both; and third, make the model. Data suggest that models are good diagnostic tools for identifying critical thinking skills of students. In this case, students mostly demonstrate the ability to recognize similarities in structure and function between the concept and their model. Some senior students demonstrated integration and reflective thinking in making their models. Thus, more opportunities for student-generated models must be available if students were to develop integration and reflective thinking in their models.

간호대학생의 리더십, 비판적 사고성향, 간호전문직 자아개념이 행복감에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Leadership, Critical Thinking Disposition, Professional Self-conception of Nurse on Happiness in Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of leadership, critical thinking disposition, and professional self-conception of nurse on happiness in nursing students. Methods: Data ware collected from 160 nursing students from March to May 2015, using self reported questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression were used to analyze the collected data. Results: Happiness in nursing students was correlated with leadership (r=.68, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (r=.36, p<.001) and professional self-conception of nurse (r=.57, p<.001). Factors significantly influencing happiness in nursing students were leadership (${\beta}=.48$, p<.001), professional self-conception of nurse (${\beta}=.17$, p=.032) and life satisfaction (${\beta}=.18$, p=.003), with a total explanatory power of 53.0%. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that leadership, critical thinking disposition, and professional self-conception of nurse should be promoted to increase happiness of nursing students.

초·중등학생을 위한 디자인적 사고기반의 STEAM교육 프로그램의 효과 (Effect of Design Thinking-based STEAM Program for Primary and Secondary Students)

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of design thinking-based STEAM program for primary and secondary students. The design thinking-based STEAM program dealt with advanced scientific technology issues and it consisted of 8 topics. A questionnaire was developed to explore the change of Science concept awareness, Interest, Self-efficacy, Career consciousness of students through the program. The questionnaire consisted of following 4 areas, such as 'Science concept awareness', 'Interest', 'Career consciousness' and 'Self efficacy'. Pre-post test was conducted to 75 primary and secondary students. As a result of analyzing post-test compared to pre-test, 'Science concept awareness', 'Career consciousness' and 'Self efficacy' of students were improved. And the 'Interest' wasn't changed significantly. Through this research, it can be suggested that the design thinking-based STEAM program can be useful at school education to improve the Science concept awareness, Career consciousness and Self-efficacy of primary and secondary students. It is also proposed that further research of the various areas of interest and other affective variables will be needed.

간호대학 신입생들의 문제해결력에 미치는 영향 요인 (Factors Influencing Problem Solving Abilities of Freshmen Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors which influence freshmen nursing students' problem solving abilities. Method: The data were collected from 119 students by means of self-reported questionnaires measuring problem solving abilities, critical thinking disposition, and self-directed learning, on March 7th and 11th, 2010. Result: For problem solving ability categories, the level of problem discovery was the highest followed by solution plan, problem definition, solution evaluation and solution implementation. The influencing factors on problem solving abilities of nursing students were critical thinking disposition, self-directed learning and gender. Conclusion: Using the results of this study as a foundation, nursing education curriculum should be comprised of critical thinking skills and self-directed skills for the improvement of nursing students' problem solving abilities. It is also recommended that further studies be conducted in order to investigate comprehensive curriculum designs that allow for maximum accumulation of these proficiencies.

과학적 사고력의 신장을 위한 과학비유탐구놀이 학습방법의 구안 (An approach to development of scientific thinking skills through science inquiry play of analogy)

  • This research suggests science inquiry play of analogy as a teaming method to help the students in concrete operational stage to develop scientific thinking skills and to understand abstract science conceptions. The research focuses on/considers the characteristics and merits of the science inquiry plays, and the learning method by analogical reasoning. This learning through the science inquiry play of analogy can be considered as a meta-model for scientific thinking skill. The learning has the following processes: 1) Students analogize the abstract science conceptions and facts into play-type activities including the concrete contents such as students themselves, their physical-sensory motions, concrete objects, play methods, and play rules. 2) Students as analogized objects play a role physically and sensuously according to the methods and rules analogized in the play. 3) Students find out the concrete contents included in the science inquiry play of analogy, draw the results, and deduce the new conceptions from the results by reflective thinking and analogical reasoning.
