Mechanical joints such as bolted or riveted joints are widely used in mechanical components. The reliable determination of the stress intensity factors for cracks in bolted joints is needed to evaluate the safety and fatigue life of them. The weight function method is an efficient technique to calculate the stress intensity factors for various loading conditions because only the stress analysis of an uncracked model is required. In this paper the mixed-mode stress intensity factors for cracks in bolted joints are obtained by weight function method, in which the coefficients of weight function are determined by finite element analyses for reference loadings. Critical inclined angle that mode I stress intensity factor becomes maximum is determined and the effects of crack length and the magnitude of clearance on critical inclined angle are investigated.
Purpose: To investigate the relationships among stress, depression, family function, and activities of daily living in elderly females. Methods: Using a descriptive correlation for the study design, data was collected from 134 elderly females older than 60 years of age. Result: The level of depression among the subjects was 6.04($\pm5.30$) and level of stress was 1.62($\pm.70$). The performance capacity of the activities of daily living was 17.79($\pm0.87$), and the instrumental activities of daily living was 22.33($\pm2.66$). The family function was 2.82($\pm3.47$). Depression and stress showed a positive correlation(p<.001) and had a negative correlation with family function(p=.025), as the correlation with instrumental activities of daily living was negatively related(p=.008). Stress had a positive relationship with family function(p<.001). and was negatively related to instrumental activities of daily living (p=.041). Conclusion: For health promotion of elderly females, it is critical to make an effort to establish and constantly develop a program, as well as policy for the health of the elderly considering and understanding gender differences.
In this paper, the autonomic function analysis system was designed to noninvasively assess the autonomic function of cardiovascular system. Orthostatic stress protocol was designed to stimulate the autonomic nervous system. designed protocol and analysis algorithm were evaluated by experiments for 25 normal subjects and 22 hemiplegia patients. Data were processed by usign the power spectral analysis. Nwe indexes of autonomic function, LF$_{N}$ and HF$_{N}$, were proposed and were compared with LF/HF ratio. New indexes of the sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, respectively. The IST and the DPT are balanced and have positive value for normal subjects during orthostatic stress but not for hempilegia patients. This result suggest that the IST and the DPT are used as new criteria of normal autonomic function during orthostatic stress.ess.
The yield criterion, or called yield function, plays an important role in the study of plastic working of a sheet because it governs the plastic deformation properties of the sheet during plastic forming process. In this paper, we propose a novel anisotropic yield function useful for describing the plastic behavior of various anisotropic sheets. The proposed yield function includes the anisotropic version of the second stress invariant J2 and the third stress invariant J3. The anisotropic yield function newly proposed in this study is as follows. F(J2)+ αG(J3)+ βH (J2 × J3) = km The proposed yield function well explains the anisotropic plastic behavior of various sheets by introducing the parameters α and β, and also exhibits both symmetrical and asymmetrical yield surfaces. The parameters included in the proposed model are determined through an optimization algorithm from uniaxial and biaxial experimental data under proportional loading path. In this study, the validity of the proposed anisotropic yield function was verified by comparing the yield surface shape, normalized uniaxial yield stress value, and Lankford's anisotropic coefficient R-value derived with the experimental results. Application for the proposed anisotropic yield function to aluminum sheet shows symmetrical yielding behavior and to pure titanium sheet shows asymmetric yielding behavior, it was shown that the yield curve and yield behavior of various types of sheet materials can be predicted reasonably by using the proposed new yield anisotropic function.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the mediating effects of social support and self-efficacy between academic stress and college adjustment in physical therapy students. Design: Survey. Methods: 75 subjects were surveyed about the level of academic, Academic Stress, College Adjustment, Social Support, Self-Efficacy, and self-control. To confirm the cognitive function on brain activity were evaluated. Results: First, College students have higher academic stress and lower college adjustment. Higher social support and self-efficacy have lower academic stress and better college adjustment. Second, students with high academic stress need constant attention to increase their social support and programs to reduce academic stress. Third, students with high academic stress, low social support, and low self-efficacy can increase their cognitive strength through the brain wave thereby reducing the academic stress they are currently feeling. Conclusion: In order to improve the College Adjustment, it is considered that it is important to increase the cognitive function through brain train along with the development of a student management program that can reduce academic stress and increase social support and self-efficacy.

The estimation of fatigue life at the design stage is very important in order to arrive at feasible and cost effective solutions considering the total lifetime of the structure and machinery compo-nents. In this study the practical procedure of prediction of fatigue life by use of cumulative damage factors based on Miner-Palmgren hypothesis and probability density function is shown with a $135,000m^3$ LNG tank being used as an example. In particular the parameters of Weibull distribution taht determine the stress spectrum are dis-cussed. At the end some of uncertainties associated with fatigue life prediction are discussed. The main results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. The practical procedure of prediction of fatigue life by use of cumulative damage factors expressed in combination of probability density function and S-N data is proposed. 2. The calculated fatigue life is influenced by the shape parameter and stress block. The conser-vative fatigue design can be achieved when using higher value of shape parameter and the stress blocks divded into more stress blocks.
The creep of concrete structures caused by variable stresses is mostly calculated by step-by-step method based on the superposition of creep function. Although most practical application is carried out by this linear assumption, significant deviations between predictions and experiments have been observed when unloading takes place, that is, stress is reduced. The recovery is overestimated. The main purpose of this study is to present the application method of the creep analysis model which is expressed with both creep function and creep recovery function to concrete structures where is expressed with both creep function and creep recovery function to concrete structures where increase or decrease of stress is repeated . To apply two function method to time analysis of concrete structures, this study presents the calculation method of creep strain increment for stress variation. Then, this paper executes the time analysis for an example using suggested method, and compares theses results with the previous analysis values and experimental results.
This paper introduces Romberg-Richardson's method as one of the numerical integration tools for computation of stress intensity factor in a pre-cracked specimen subjected to a complex stress field across the crack faces. Also, the computation of stress intensity factor for various stress fields using existing three methods: average stress over interval method, piecewise linear stress method, piecewise quadratic method are modified by using Richardson extrapolation method. The direct integration method is used as reference for constant and linear stress distribution across the crack faces while Gauss-Chebyshev method is used as reference for nonlinear distribution of stress across the crack faces in order to obtain the stress intensity factor. It is found that modified methods (average stress over intervals-Richardson method, piecewise linear stress-Richardson method, piecewise quadratic-Richardson method) yield more accurate results after a few numbers of iterations than those obtained using these methods in their original form. Romberg-Richardson's method is proven to be more efficient and accurate than Gauss-Chebyshev method for complex stress field.
A cracked-plate with a patch bonded on one side is treated with a crack-bridging model: assuming continuous distribution of springs acting between crack surfaces. the approximate weight function was introduced to obtain the stress intensity factor of patched crack subjected to residual stress or non-uniform stress. The stress intensity factors for the partially patched crack within finite plate or the patched crack initiated from a notch were successfully obtained by numerical calculation.
Exact solutions for stresses for an infinite rectangular plate perforated by two circular holes of different radii subjected to uni-axial or bi-axial uniform loads are investigated using the Airy stress function. The hoop stresses occurring at the edge of the circular hole are computed and plotted. Comparisons are made for the stress concentration factors for several types of loading conditions.
