Engineering Ethics is a fundamental and essential subject and the understanding of ethics is of great importance for students in engineering courses and professional engineers. Most courses would consist of ethical tests, decision making opportunities, case studies, case methods, and group discussion. It is important to consider each case carefully, so we offer a number of hypothetical short stories to students as case methods that they cover in detail. We check the behavior decisions of students as they read the hypothetical short stories. In this study, the short story was about 200 words in length. This paper shows how, with the addition of minor changes to the text, some students changed their behavioral decisions. For example, with the addition of "if you take financial liability for the losses," some thought that they would not want to carry the debt. Other cases showed how some students disliked the majority rule. The paper shows that this arranged hypothetical short story method can often guide student's decision-making process, and can result in decreased undesirable decisions.

The present study aims to present a comprehensive understanding of the performance of neighboring multi-story buildings with different dynamic characteristics under blast loads. Two different scenarios are simulated in terms of explosion locations with respect to both buildings. To investigate the effect of interaction between the neighboring buildings in terms of the induced responses, the separation gap is set to be sufficiently small to ensure collisions between stories. An adequately large separation gap is set between the buildings to explore responses without collisions under the applied blast loads. Several blast loads with different peak pressure intensities are employed to perform the dynamic analysis. The finite-element toolbox Computer Aided Learning of the Finite-Element Method (CALFEM) is used to develop a MATLAB code to perform the simulation analysis. The dynamic responses obtained in the scenarios considered herein are presented comparatively. It is found that the obtained stories' responses are governed mainly by the location and intensity of the applied blast loads, separation distances, and flexibility of the attacked structures. Moreover, explosions near a light and flexible building may lead to a significant decrease in blast resistance because explosions severely influence the dynamic responses of the building's stories.

Nguyễn Huy Thiệp is a pillar in Vietnamese cultural life after the Second Indochina War, and the fates of men and women at the beginning of Đổi mới (Renovation) is one of the prominent themes in his short stories. To show off sexual power, seek glory, and maintain his dominant position, Thiệp's heroes engage in a game of oppressing the weak, hunting animals, and harassing women. However, due to the complex changes in social life, moral values, and gender inequality, men in the postwar period quickly experienced the feeling of humiliation, impotence, and failure. In turn, the sophisticated aspects of masculinity demonstrate the cultural and ethical concerns of contemporary Vietnamese society. By exploring the multidimensional nature of masculinity expressed in Thiệp's stories, this study aims to resolve misconceptions about gender and the relationship between men and women in his work.

The purpose of this study is to explore children's reactions in the process of reading books dealing with death. As a result, there was a reflection of their religious assumptions. The participants interpreted the stories based on their belief systems. If the stories did not match with their assumptions, they used another strategy. Also, it is indicated that they recalled death-related memories and applied those stories to their own loss experiences and social events. Furthermore, they recognized the importance of their own everyday lives rather than immersing in death itself. It means that death-related stories help the participants express their passion towards life and resolve to live their lives to the utmost. Contrary to their first drawings before reading books, their second drawings contained the joy of living and reflected the details of death they developed while reading books. Also, the colors they used in their second drawings were brighter than the previous ones. Their passionate attitude towards life above was equally shown in their poems as well. In conclusion, reading death stories turned out to be a process in which children develop and reflect on their understanding of death. Abundant opportunities to express their own feelings are offered. Furthermore, it is showed that death stories can help the children love their lives and provide a strong will for their living sincerely. Based on the results, some educational suggestions were provided.

The combination of animals has been developed in each of the cultural spheres as a method of metaphor and symbolism of the cultural code. However, its symbolism is not a fixed constant, but a variable and relative constant. This work focused on its features in comparison with East Asian cultural spheres comedic stories and proverbs. Consequently, several features were identified. First, the combinations of animals in similar comedic stories and proverbs among Korea, Japan and China show a difference in point of view. Korean focuses on the difference of the two animals, but Chinese and Japanese focus on the differences in value and level. Second, the method of anthropomorphization is relatively more developed in China and Japan than Korea. The combinations of animals of Chinese comedic stories and proverbs particularly in the field of anthropomorphization, are most focused on age and sex of the animal. The animal's age or sex remains mostly undetermined in Korean animal's proverbs, unlike Chinese proverbs. On the other hand, two animals in Japanese comedic stories and proverbs are usually of the male and female gender from. Third, the combinations of animals of Chinese and Japanese focus on the animal's body and its characteristics of action. Chinese and Japanese combine the characteristics of the two animal's bodies and actions. This feature apparently caused the resultant combinations of the animal's body parts, for example, the Dragon. Understanding of the combinations of two animals is a good portal into the features of East Asian culture sphere.

Followings are the analysis of 578 fire accidents occurred at Specific Building In 1995. Fire frequency had been slightly decresed since 1992. In regional, fire accidents in Seoul and Ulsan were higher than the average. Occupational fire frequency order was apartment, factory, buildings over six stories and market place. In addition, the order of life loss was buildings over six stories, apartment and factory. And property loss totaled six times higher than that of Fire Department. Among the causes of fire, electrical fire formed 44.8%, from which we can assume that there were some problems in the investigation of fire causes.

Coupling adjacent building with supplemental damping devices is a developing method of reduced structural response due to wind and seismic excitations. The philosophy is to allow structures, vibrating at different frequencies, to exert control forces upon one another to reduce the overall responses of the system. This paper studies the effect of installing vibration control devices of two high rise building structures(49 stories and 42 stories) connected by sky-bridge. According to the analysis results the use of sky-bridge can be effective in increasing damping ratio of the system.

The cinema of the digital age remediates digital media not only its technology but also its storytelling, image and even its way of thinking. This paper examines the spatial storytelling of cinema in digital age. In order to analyze the remediation aspects, this research applies and reconstructs the concepts of 'spatial stories' of Michel de Ceteau.

The fact that the major cases of life casualties are from smoke in the fire accidents and the expected steep increase of skyscrapers, huge spaces, multiplexes and huge scaled underground spaces demand establishment of efficient smoke countermeasure. The field experiments on two high buildings of 20 stories and 21 stories are carried out to evaluate the field performance of pressure differential systems for smoke management and the results of experiments are presented.

Many RC building structures of multiple uses constructed in Korea have the irregularities of torsion and soft story at bottom stories. A typical irregular building was selected as prototype and shaking table tests were performed to investigate the seismic performance of this building. The objective of this study is to evaluate the correlation between the experimental and analytical responses of this irregular building structure subjected to the earthquake excitation by using OpenSees(Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation). The results of analyses simulate well the behavior of the building having torsional irregularity and weak stories.
