Development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technique is becoming increasingly important as a method to mitigate the strengthening effects of global warming, generated from the unprecedented increase in released anthropogenic CO2. In the recent years, the characteristics of basaltic rocks (i.e., large volume, high reactivity and surplus of cation components) have been recognized to be potentially favorable in facilitation of CCS; based on this, research on utilization of basaltic formations for underground CO2 storage is currently ongoing in various fields. This study investigated the feasibility of underground storage of CO2 in basalt, based on the examination of the CO2 storage mechanisms in subsurface, assessment of basalt characteristics, and review of the global research on basaltic CO2 storage. The global research examined were classified into experimental/modeling/field demonstration, based on the methods utilized. Experimental conditions used in research demonstrated temperatures ranging from 20 to 250 ℃, pressure ranging from 0.1 to 30 MPa, and the rock-fluid reaction time ranging from several hours to four years. Modeling research on basalt involved construction of models similar to the potential storage sites, with examination of changes in fluid dynamics and geochemical factors before and after CO2-fluid injection. The investigation demonstrated that basalt has large potential for CO2 storage, along with capacity for rapid mineralization reactions; these factors lessens the environmental constraints (i.e., temperature, pressure, and geological structures) generally required for CO2 storage. The success of major field demonstration projects, the CarbFix project and the Wallula project, indicate that basalt is promising geological formation to facilitate CCS. However, usage of basalt as storage formation requires additional conditions which must be carefully considered - mineralization mechanism can vary significantly depending on factors such as the basalt composition and injection zone properties: for instance, precipitation of carbonate and silicate minerals can reduce the injectivity into the formation. In addition, there is a risk of polluting the subsurface environment due to the combination of pressure increase and induced rock-CO2-fluid reactions upon injection. As dissolution of CO2 into fluids is required prior to injection, monitoring techniques different from conventional methods are needed. Hence, in order to facilitate efficient and stable underground storage of CO2 in basalt, it is necessary to select a suitable storage formation, accumulate various database of the field, and conduct systematic research utilizing experiments/modeling/field studies to develop comprehensive understanding of the potential storage site.

This study examines the current status and policy development of Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage(CCS), which is a technology to mitigate climate change, in Korea and foreign countries. It also analyzes IEA CCS regulatory framework as a guideline and provides limitations and implications for marine geological storage in the Republic of Korea. Although CCS master plan is established at national level, related laws are not amended and detailed polices are not yet provided. Established 'Intergovernmental CCS committee' lacks its cooperative mechanism and flexibility. Only limited and segmented economic analyses are performed and funding for large scale of CCS project is not secured. In addition, information sharing is limited and public awareness activities are insufficient. Therefore, this paper provides some policy suggestions on establishing a legal framework based on the 'Marine Environmental Management Act', strengthening the role of intergovernmental CCS committee, conducting CCS economic analysis based on various scenarios, providing economic incentives and public participation strategies, and establishing a specialized agency for information sharing.
The objective of this study is to investigate cryoprotective effects of corn starch enzyme hydrolysates of nonsweet and low-calories on denaturation of frozen fish protein. The cryoprotective effects of were examined in Alaska pollack actomyosin solution by changes in SDS-PAGE pattern, solubility, and $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity. When samples stored for 0 and 30 days were compared on SDS-PAGE patterns, severe changes in all bands were shown on the control sample regardless of storage temperature, especially in myosin heavy chain (MHC). Not much difference no appeared the electrophoretic pattern in case of the samples containing sucrose at any storage temperature during 30 days of storage. The cryoprotective effect of the hydrolysates were markedly dependant on storage temperature and no MHC band was found in the samples stored at $-5^{\circ}C$. The SDS-PAGE patterns of sample stored at $-20^{\circ}C$, however, completely maintained after 30 days or storage. When the samples were stored at $-5^{\circ}C$, the solubility of the sample containing sucrose was retained at $90\%$ after 30 days of storage, whereas dramatically decreased in other samples. The samples including sucrose, D.E. 10, 15, and 20 revealed $90\%$ in solubility when stored at $-20^{\circ}C$. The tendency of remaining $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity was almost shown the same as that of solubility.
Cell death has been traditionally classified in apoptosis and necrosis. Apoptosis, known as programmed cell death, is an active form of cell death mechanism that is tightly regulated by multiple cellular signaling pathways and requires ATP for its appropriate process. Apoptotic death plays essential roles for successful development and maintenance of normal cellular homeostasis in mammalian. In contrast to apoptosis, necrosis is classically considered as a passive cell death process that occurs rather by accident in disastrous conditions, is not required for energy and eventually induces inflammation. Regardless of different characteristics between apoptosis and necrosis, it has been well defined that both are responsible for a wide range of human diseases. Glycogen storage disease type I (GSD-I) is a kind of human genetic disorders and is caused by the deficiency of a microsomal protein, glucose-6-phosphatase-${\alpha}$ ($G6Pase-{\alpha}$) or glucose-6-phosphate transporter (G6PT) responsible for glucose homeostasis, leading to GSD-Ia or GSD-Ib, respectively. This review summarizes cell deaths in GSD-I and mostly focuses on current knowledge of the neutrophil apoptosis in GSD-Ib based upon ER stress and redox signaling.

The proposed framework of Four Layer Robust Storage in Cloud (FLRSC) architecture involves host server, local host and edge devices in addition to Virtual Machine Monitoring (VMM). The goal is to protect the privacy of stored data at edge devices. The computational intelligence (CI) part of our algorithm distributes blocks of data to three different layers by partially encoded and forwarded for decoding to the next layer using hash and greed Solomon algorithms. VMM monitoring uses snapshot algorithm to detect intrusion. The proposed system is compared with Tiang Wang method to validate efficiency of data transfer with security. Hence, security is proven against the indexed efficiency. It is an important study to integrate communication between local host software and nearer edge devices through different channels by verifying snapshot using lamport mechanism to ensure integrity and security at software level thereby reducing the latency. It also provides thorough knowledge and understanding about data communication at software level with VMM. The performance evaluation and feasibility study of security in FLRSC against three-layered approach is proven over 232 blocks of data with 98% accuracy. Practical implications and contributions to the growing knowledge base are highlighted along with directions for further research.
As for the application system or the user authentication scheme that is used in the system, various technologies including simple ID/PW, certificate, fingerprint/iris, phone, security card, and OTP are being used. But simple ID/PW and phone certification lack security features. As for the certificate, fingerprint/iris, and security card/OTP, the weakness in security has been quite strengthened, but there are costs and complexity involved to use these. This paper proposes a new measure of much safer and low-cost user authentication that improves the security level and uses mobile external storage media such as USB that people commonly have.

Recently, as the price per bit is decreasing at a fast rate, flash memory is considered to be used as primary storage of large-scale database systems. Although flash memory shows off its high speeds of page reads, however, it has a problem of noticeable performance degradation in the presence of increasing update workloads. When updates are requested for pages with random page IDs, in particular, the shortcoming of flash tends to impair significantly the overall performance of a flash-based database system. Therefore, it is important to have a way to efficiently update the B+-tree, when it is stored in flash storage. This is because most of updates in the B+-tree arise at leaf nodes, whose page IDs are in random. In this light, we propose a new flash B+-tree that stores up-to-date versions of leaf nodes in sibling-leaf blocks (SLBs), while updating them. The use of SLBs improves the update performance of B-trees and provides the mechanism for fast key range searches. To verify the performance advantages of the proposed flash B+-tree, we developed a mathematical performance evaluation model that is suited for assessing B-tree operations. The performance comparisons from it show that the proposed flash B+-tree provides faster range searches and reduces more than 50% of update costs.
Corrosion failure of petrochemical facilities is one of the difficulties in maintenance, since operating conditions of crude oil production, storage, and refinement are very aggressive. UNS N08810, which has been used for crude oil transportation pipes and storage tanks in petrochemical industries, shows good resistance to general corrosion and localized corrosion in several environments. Among its environments, UNS N08810 showed better corrosion resistance in fuel gas containing sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid and sulfur. However, ductility and toughness at high temperature over about $500^{\circ}C$ were greatly reduced due to microstructural change. In general, welding process is the representative method to join the parts in industrial components. Because the alloy by welding can be sensitized and corroded, the manufacturing process should be controlled. In this work, UNS N08810 was used and heat treatment conditions including solution and stabilization treatments were controlled. Oxalic acid etch test by ASTM A262 Practice A was done to evaluate the qualitative sensitization in room temperature. Huey test by ASTM A262 Practice C was done to evaluate the intergranular corrosion rate in boiling 65% $HNO_3$ solution. Also, the microstructure by thermal history was analyzed. Experimental alloy showed high intergranular corrosion rate and its corrosion mechanism was elucidated.
Though the wandering spiders do not produce webs for prey-catching, they have silk producing apparatus. Among the four kinds of silk glands in the wolf spider, Pardosa astrigera, the ampullate one is the most predominant gland in both sexes, and is composed of three functional parts; excretory duct, storage ampulla and convoluted tail regions. The duct is basically composed of three superposed types of layers which are inner cuticles, monolayered epithelial cells and peripheral connective cells. The electron lucent subcuticles which have the functions of water removal and orientation of silk fibers during polymerization are well developed at the anterior region near the spinneret. Whereas the endocuticles which contain two types of banding patterns at the cross section are developed at the rest of the duct region. The secretory silks are synthesized within the glandular epithelial cells of the tail as secretory granules, and then released to the inner cavity of the storage ampulla by the mechanism of apocrine secretion. Most of these secretory vesicles are originated from the rough endoplasmic reticula of the glandular epithelial cells, whereas no Golgi complexes are found in any of the cells which have been examined.

The limited storage and computing capacity hinder the development of cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs). To solve the problem, a new paradigm of cloud-based CRAHN has been proposed, in which a CRAHN will make use of the computation and storage resources of the cloud. This paper envisions an integrated CRAHN-cloud network architecture. In this architecture, some cognitive radio users (CUs) who satisfy the required metrics could perform as mobile gateway candidates to connect other ordinary CUs with the cloud. These mobile gateway candidates are dynamically clustered according to different related metrics. Cluster head and time-to-live value are determined in each cluster. In this paper, the gateway advertisement and discovery issues are first addressed to propose a hybrid gateway discovery mechanism. After that, a QoS-based gateway selection algorithm is proposed for each CU to select the optimal gateway. Simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the overall scheme, which incorporates the proposed clustering and gateway selection algorithms. The results show that the proposed scheme can achieve about 11% higher average throughput, 10% lower end-to-end delay, and 8% lower packet drop fractions compared with the existing scheme.
