  • In this work, a stabilized characteristic finite volume method for the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations is investigated based on the lowest equal-order finite element pair. The temporal differentiation and advection term are dealt with by characteristic scheme. Stability of the numerical solution is derived under some regularity assumptions. Optimal error estimates of the velocity and pressure are obtained by using the relationship between the finite volume and finite element methods.

  • The numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in a constricted stepped channel problem has been obtained using a fourth order numerical method. Transformations are made to have a fine grid near the sharp corner and a long channel downstream. The derivatives in the Navier-Stokes equations are replaced by fourth order central differences which result a 29-point computational stencil. A procedure is used to avoid extra numerical boundary conditions near the solid walls. Results have been obtained for Reynolds numbers up to 1000.

  • An Euler/Navier Stokes solver has been developed for the analysis of steady and unsteady flows. The $q-{\omega}$ turbulent model has been incorporated into the solver in strongly coupled manner for stability and robustness. A new Chimera hole cutting algorithm, Cut-paste algorithm, has been devised for automatic Chimera hole cutting. Number of viscous/inviscid numerical computations demonstrate the accuracy and the versatility of the solver.

  • We study an optimal control problem of the fluid flow governed by the navier-Stokes equations. The control problem is formulated with the flow in the driven cavity. Existence of an optimal solution and first-order optimality condition of the optimal control are derived. We report the numerical results for the finite eleme수 approximations of the optimal solutions.

  • Two-dimensional slow viscous flow on infinite half-plane past a perpendicular infinite cavity is considered on the basis of the Stokes approximation. Using complex representation of the two-dimensional Stokes flow, the problem is reduced to solving a set of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. The streamlines and the pressure and vorticity distribution on the wall are numerically determined.

  • A Legendre spectral tau approximation scheme for solving the two-dimensional stationary incompressible Stokes equations is considered. Based on the vorticity-stream function formulation and variational forms, boundary value and normal derivative of vorticity are computed. A factorization technique for matrix stems based on the Schur decomposition is derived. Several numerical experiments are performed.

  • This paper describes a numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations. It includes algorithms for discretization by finite element methods and a posteriori error estimation of the computed solutions. In order to evaluate the performance of the method, the numerical results are compared with some previously published works or with others coming from commercial code like ADINA system.

  • In this paper, the preconditioned multistage time stepping methods which are popular multigrid smoothers is implemented for the compressible Navier-Stokes calculation with full-coarsening multigrid method. The convergence characteristic of the point-Jacobi and Alternating direction line Jacobi(DDADI) preconditioners are studied. The performance of 2nd order upwind numerical fluxes such as 2nd order upwind TVD scheme and MUSCL-type linear reconstruction scheme are compared in the inviscid and viscous turbulent flow caculations.

  • Numerical boundary conditions are as important as the governing equations when analyzing the fluid flows numerically. An explicit boundary condition method updates the solutions at the boundaries with extrapolation from the interior of the computational domain, while the implicit boundary condition method in conjunction with an implicit time integration method solves the solutions of the entire computational domain including the boundaries simultaneously. The implicit boundary condition method, therefore, is more robust than the explicit boundary condition method. In this paper, steady compressible 2-Dimensional Navier-Stokes solver is developed. We present the implicit boundary condition method coupled with LU-SGS(Lower Upper Symmetric Gauss Seidel) method. Also, the explicit boundary condition method is implemented for comparison. The preconditioning Navier-Stokes equations are solved on unstructured meshes. The numerical computations for a number of flows show that the implicit boundary condition method can give accurate solutions.
