  • The stereographic projection method accesses the stability of slope roughly, so it is difficult to apply its result in the technical designing of rock slopes. To solve this difficulty, using the limit analysis method, we quantified the stereographic projection with the safety level graded in the daylight envelope, which represents the failure possible area in the net.

  • Rock slope had been slope failure due to geological and physical things over time. In this paper, it discusses rock slope stability analysis which was concerned about additional slope failure located near the Andong-si. Initially, achieved basic geological investigation and field test about rock slope, examine the stability of rock slope by doing limit equilibrium method and stereographic projection about 5 slopes.

  • Recently stereographic projection method has widely been adopted in Korea as a simple but effective way of anlalysing the rock slope stability at the preliminary stage of site investigation. In practice, however, not a few cases have been noted where the method. even with the aid of computer programme, was unproperly applied due to lack of experience in the process of collecting geological data, sorting them out and assessing the potential instability of rock block thereform. This paper will briefly describe basic principles of stereographic projection method and present several instances to discuss its merits and limitations when it is applied to the geological conditions of Korea.

  • Our country has a tendency to build many structures by cutting mountainous areas due to geographical features. Among these construction done in our country, road construction take the first spot in rank. As the construction is done, fractured inclining plane is created inevitability because of the natural properties of mountainous areas. The stability of the fractured inclining planes and slope formed in the opening, which are developed at the time of construction, need to be evaluated. Also, reinforcement plans for these matters are necessary. This paper is to go through an examination on the fractured inclining surface that is developed at the time of construction, especially the composite inclining plane that consists of soil and rocks. Furthermore, evaluating the stability by performing an analysis on stereographic projection and limit equilibrium, based on the examination results. using the stability evaluations, applications were explored for reinforcement methods of construction that fits the geological characters of this inclining surface.

  • In this paper, the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are performed with single-crystal copper blocks under simple shear and simple tension to investigate the effect of size and crystal orientation. There are many variances to give influences such as deformation path, temperature, specimen size and crystal orientation. Among them, the crystal orientation has a primary influence on the volume averaged stress. The numerical results show that the volume averaged shear stress decreases as the specimen size increases and as the crystal orientation changes from single to octal. Furthermore, the Schmid factor and yield stress for crystal orientation are evaluated by using the MD simulation on the standard triangle of stereographic projection.

  • Execute surface of the earth geological survey for stability analysis of stealing cutting sides and investigated wide area nature of soil structure. Inflected DIPS that measure discontinuity's direction that develop to slope and is slope stability a wide use program for Stereographic Projection Method analysis that utilize geometrical correlation of stealing four sides and discontinuity surface. It is principle that angle of internal friction that is basis element of stability estimation applies direct shear test result on joint side, Examination is impossible by case execution, suppose by 30 angles that apply more conservatively in base rock slope sides usually and achieved analysis. When analyze, consider discontinuity's various adult that develop in research slope, after conduct first each discontinuity different assay falling into fault, joint, executed stability estimation which synthesize whole discontinuity data. When ailment element is recognized as analysis result, wished to present stability countermeasure way of most suitable to take into account of execution, stability, economic performance.

  • The study area. Boeun-eup Boeun-kun, belongs to Ogchon metamorphic belt which is highly metamorphosed and consisted of complex geologic formations. Even though the geological structures and formations are complex and metamorphosed, the geological investigation and consideration are not enough and consequently the plane failure is occurred in the rock slope which was under construction on 1 : 0.5 gradient. This area is assessed as unstable and additional failure is possible by the discontinuity with same direction of failure surface. Therefore, the authors evaluate the slope stability using various analysis methods such as SMR, stereographic projection method, and the limit equilibrium analysis. In order to analyze stress redistribution and nonlinear displacement behavior caused by stress release, the authors conduct numerical analysis with UDEC and then the behavior of rock mass is analyzed after reinforcements are applied.

  • This paper investigates the stability of a three-dimensional (3D) wedge under the pseudo-static action of an earthquake based on the nonlinear Barton-Bandis (B-B) failure criterion. The influences of the mechanical parameters of the discontinuity surface, the geometric parameters of the wedge and the pseudo-static parameters of the earthquake on the stability of the wedge are analyzed, as well as the sensitivity of these parameters. Moreover, a stereographic projection is used to evaluate the influence of pseudo-static direction on instability mode. The parametric analyses show that the stability coefficient and the instability mode of the wedge depend on the mechanical parameter of the rock mass, the geometric form of the wedge and the pseudo-static state of the earthquake. The friction angle of the rock φb, the roughness coefficient of the structure surface JRC and the two angles related to strikes of the joints θ1 and θ2 are sensitive to stability. Furthermore, the sensitivity of wedge height h, the compressive strength of the rock at the fracture surface JCS and the slope angle α to the stability are insignificant.

  • In this study, a 3D laser scanner is applied to evaluate of the stability of rock slope and to establish a adequate counter-method. From 3D scanning results, three dimensional digital data of rock slope is acquired, and then it is investigated for the engineering properties of discontinuities in rock mass. On the base of the result, we carry out the analysis of slope stability using the methods of the stereographic projection. In particular, the use of a 3D laser scanner is powerful about the slope on which person is difficult to approach because we can obtain the informations of discontinuities from the 3D digital data.
