  • The present study has been carried out to analyze the effect of steam hammering on the steam piping system including the final superheater, the high pressure turbine, check valve and the first reheater by sudden stoping of main stop valve in a power plant. For the present steam hammering analysis, the well known Flowmaster software has been used to model the steam piping system and the time dependent characteristics of pressure and steam mass flow rate has been conducted. Using the result of the unsteady pressure and steam mass flow rate, the forces acting on the elbows in the piping system has been derived. From the present analysis, it has been elucidated that the elbow just before the main stop valve and the elbow near the connection pipe between bypass pipe and check valve had the largest force among the elbows in the steam piping system. The structural safety diagnostics study on the elbow and the supporting structures of the steam piping system of a power plant will be conducted in the future by the present results of the forces acting on the elbow.

  • A computation routine, capable of performing thermal design analysis of the triple-pressure bottoming system (heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine) of combined cycle power plants, is developed. It is based on thermal analysis of the heat recovery steam generator and estimation of its size and steam turbine power. It can be applied to various parametric analyses including optimized design calculation. This paper presents analysis results for the effects on the design performance of heat exchanger arrangements at intermediate and high temperature parts as well as steam pressures. Also examined is the effect of steam sources for deaeration on design performance.

  • To study oscillation characteristic of steam and non-condensable gas direct contact condensation through multi-hole sparger at low mass flux, a series of experiments of pure steam and mixture gas condensation have been carried out under the conditions of steam mass flux of 20-120kg/m2s, water temperature of 20-95 ℃ and mass fraction of non-condensable gas of 0-5%. The regime map of pure steam condensation through multi-hole sparger is divided into steam chugging, separated bubble, aggregated bubble and escaping aggregated bubble. The bubbles behavior of synchronization in the same hole columns and desynchronized excitation between different hole columns can be found. The coalescence effect of mixture bubbles increases with water temperature and non-condensable gas content increasing. Pressure oscillation intensity of pure steam condensation first increases and then decreases with water temperature increasing, and increases with steam mass flux increasing. Pressure oscillation intensity of mixture gas condensation decreases with water temperature and non-condensable gas content increasing, which is significantly weaker than that of pure steam condensation. The oscillation dominant frequency decreases with the rise of water temperature and non-condensable gas content. The correlations for oscillation intensity and dominant frequency respectively are developed in pure steam and mixture gas condensation at low mass flux.

  • The differential pressure method has been used in the level measurement of steam generator in nuclear power plant. Two sensing lines from a steam generator to a pressure transmitter are needed to measure the high pressure and low pressure. The fluid conditions in the sensing line require the uniform phase with no bubbles and the slope of sensing line should be installed with forward slope. The expansion of the bubble volume according to the upper pressure and the reverse slope of sensing lines explain how the level errors took place.

  • Nuclear steam generator tubes have experienced wear degradation at tube support structure. Morphology of wear scar was analyzed by using eddy current signal. A burst test facility for steam generator tubes was established and tubes with 3 types of defects were tested. The burst test results show that the depth of wear scar is the main factor influencing the burst pressure of tubes, meanwhile, both the longitudinal length and the angle also have effect on the burst pressure. Based on test results, the burst pressure equation for wear degradation was proposed.

  • The pressure drop of a moisture separator in a steam generator is the important design parameter to ensure the successful performance of a nuclear power plant. The moisture separators have a wide range of operating conditions based on the arrangement of them. The prediction of the pressure drop in a moisture separator is challenging due to the complexity of the multi-dimensional two-phase vortex flow. In this study, the moisture separator test facility using the air/water two-phase flow was used to predict the pressure drop of a moisture separator in a Korean OPR-1000 reactor. The prototypical steam/water two-phase flow conditions in a steam generator were simulated as air/water two-phase flow conditions by preserving the centrifugal force and vapor quality. A series of experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of hydraulic characteristics such as the quality and liquid mass flux on the two-phase pressure drop. A new prediction model based on the scaling law was suggested and validated experimentally using the full and half scale of separators. The suggested prediction model showed good agreement with the steam/water experimental results, and it can be extended to predict the steam/water two-phase pressure drop for moisture separators.

  • Extrusion molding concrete panel is cured two times, that is the steam curing at atmospheric pressure and a high-pressure steam curing(autoclaving). Steam curing at atmospheric pressure is done before autoclaving and to acquire the proper strength for treat in process. Though this curing is the important factor on the quality of product and the speed in manufacturing process, it was not evaluated properly so far. Because of ignorance about curing, some engineers even think that the dry curing is better than the steam curing. This study is to investigate the properties of specimen according to variation of curing conditions in the coring chamber such as laboratory scale, pilot plant, and commercial plant. As estimating, in case of steam curing at atmospheric pressure to make extrusion molding concrete panel, moisture curing is better than dry curing and the desirable maximum temperature in curing chamber is about $50^{\circ}C$.

  • A model for quantifying the effect of steam pressure on the oxide thickness growth was developed based on the experimental data available. First, empirical equations for the thickness estimation of oxide formed in 1 atm steam were made. The oxide growth kinetics turned out to be dependent on 0.4th power of oxidation time. With an assumption that the transition oxide thickness be only a function of temperature, a model for the enhancement of steam pressure on oxide growth was developed. The enhancement coefficient for steam pressure is calculated to be 0.01~0.013 $bar^{-}$. The developed model generally well explains the experimental data.a.

  • Once-through helically coiled steam generator tubes subjected to external pressure are of interest because of their application to advanced small- and medium-sized integral reactors, in which a primary coolant with a relatively higher pressure flows outside the tubes, while secondary water with a relatively lower pressure flows inside the tubes. Another notable point is that the values of the mean radius to thickness ratio of these steam generator tubes are very small, which means that a thick-walled cylinder is employed for these steam generator tubes. In the present paper, the maximum allowable pressure of helically coiled and thick-walled steam generator tubes with through-wall cracks under external pressure is investigated based on a detailed nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis. In terms of the crack orientation, either circumferential or axial through-wall cracks are considered. In particular, in order to quantify the effect of the crack location on the maximum external pressure, these cracks are assumed to be located in the intrados, extrados, and flank of helically coiled cylinders. Moreover, an evaluation is also made of how the maximum external pressure is affected by the ovality, which might be inherently induced during the tube coiling process used to fabricate the helically coiled steam generator tubes.

  • The turbine efficiency is an important factor in power plant, and accurate evaluation of steam turbine performance is the key issue in turbo machinery industry. The difficulty of evaluating the steam turbine performance due to its high steam temperature and pressure environment makes the most steam turbine tests to be replaced by air similarity test. This paper presents how to decide the similarity conditions of the steam turbine test and describes its limitations and assumptions. The test facility was developed and arranged to conduct an air similarity turbine performance test with various inlet pressure, temperature and mass flow rate. The eddy-current type dynamometer measures the turbine-generated shaft power and controls the rotating speed. Pressure ratio of turbine can be controled by back pressure control valve. To verify its test results, uncertainty analysis was performed and relative uncertainty of turbine efficiency was obtained.
