  • This paper explores a new approach for modeling of decision-making problems that involve uncertain, time-dependent and sequence-dependent processes which can be applied to semiconductor industry. In the proposed approach, which is based on probability theory, approximate sample paths are required to be specified by probability and statistic characteristics. Completely specified sample paths are seen to be elementary and fundamental outcomes of the related experiment. The proposed approach is suitable for modeling real processes more accurately. A case study is applied to a single item production planning problem with continuous and uncertain demand and the solution obtained by the approximate path specification method shows less computational efforts and practically desirable features. The application possibility and general plan of the proposed approach in semiconductor manufacturing process is also described in the paper.

  • Multivariate control charts for effectively monitoring every component in the dispersion matrix of multivariate normal process are considered. Through the numerical results, we noticed that the multivariate control charts based on sample statistic $V_i$ by Hotelling or $W_i$ by Alt do not work effectively when the correlation coefficient components in dispersion matrix are increased. We propose a combined procedure monitoring every component of dispersion matrix, which operates simultaneously both control charts, a chart controlling variance components and a chart controlling correlation coefficients. Our numerical results show that the proposed combined procedure is efficient for detecting changes in both variances and correlation coefficients of dispersion matrix.

  • Multivariate skew-normal distribution(distribution that includes multivariate normal distribution) has been recently applied to many application areas. We consider saddlepoint approximation for a statistic of linear combination based on a multivariate skew-normal distribution. This approach can be regarded as an extension of Na and Yu (2013) that dealt saddlepoint approximation for the distribution of a skew-normal sample mean for a linear statistic and multivariate version. Simulations results and examples with real data verify the accuracy and applicability of suggested approximations.

  • Evidence of linkage is expressed as a decreasing trend of the squared trait difference of two siblings with increasing identical by descent scores. In contrast to successes in the application of a parametric approach of Haseman-Elston regression, notably low powers are demonstrated in the nonparametric linkage analysis methods for complex traits and diseases with sib-pairs data. We report that the Genehunter nonparametric linkage statistic is biased and furthermore the variance formula that they used is an inflated one, and this is one reason for a low performance. Thus, we propose bias-corrected nonparametric linkage statistics. Simulation studies comparing our proposed nonparametric test statistics versus the existing test statistics suggest that the bias-corrected new nonparametric test statistics are more powerful and attains efficiencies close to that of Haseman-Elston regression.

  • Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) of photovoltaic (PV) power systems is one of significant techniques for reducing economic loss due to abnormality occurred in PV modules. This paper presents a new FDD method against PV power systems by using statistical comparison. This comparative approach includes deviation signals between the outputs of two neighboring PV modules. We first define a binary hypothesis testing under such deviation and make use of a generalized likelihood ratio testing (GLRT) theory to derive its FDD algorithm. Additionally, a recursive computational mechanism for our proposed FDD algorithm is presented for improving a computational effectiveness in practice. We carry out a real-time experiment to test reliability of the proposed FDD algorithm by utilizing a lab based PV test-bed system.

  • Face recognition technologies using PCA(principal component analysis) recognize faces by deciding representative features of faces in the model image, extracting feature vectors from faces in a image and measuring the distance between them and face representation. Given frequent recognition problems associated with the use of point-to-point distance approach, this study adopted the K-nearest neighbor technique(class-to-class) in which a group of face models of the same class is used as recognition unit for the images inputted on a continual input image. This paper proposes a new PCA recognition in which database of faces.

  • In this paper, a non-classical autocorrelation detector adopting a newly defined test statistic is introduced to solve the typical problem of detecting a narrowband signal transmitted over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Error probability analyses are performed for a noncoherent frequency-shift-keying (FSK) system employing the proposed test-statistic. Through the histogram approach, the probability density functions of the test-statistics are plotted to explain the analysis model. All numerical results obtained indicate the limited improvement in error performance under the lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the use of higher number of samples per bit will finally provide the almost same confident potential of improvement in error rate as the system using matched filters (MFs) gives.

  • In this paper, we propose a change point detection procedure based on the modified information criterion in a generalized lambda distribution (GLD) model. Simulations are conducted to obtain empirical critical values of the proposed test statistic. We have also conducted simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed methods comparing to the log-likelihood method in terms of power, coverage probability, and confidence sets. Our results indicate that, under various conditions, the proposed method modified information criterion (MIC) approach shows good finite sample properties. Furthermore, we propose a new goodness-of-fit testing procedure based on the energy distance to evaluate the asymptotic null distribution of our test statistic. Two real data applications are provided to illustrate the use of the proposed method.

  • Information centric mobile network can significantly improve the data retrieving efficiency by caching contents at mobile edge. However, the cache pollution attack can affect the data obtaining process severely by requiring unpopular contents deliberately. To tackle the problem, we design an algorithm of mitigating cache pollution attacks in information centric mobile network. Particularly, the content popularity distribution statistic is proposed to detect abnormal behavior. Then a probabilistic caching strategy based on abnormal behavior is applied to dynamically maintain the steady-state distribution for content visiting probability and achieve the purpose of defense. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme can achieve higher request hit ratio and smaller latency for false locality content pollution attack than the CacheShield approach and the baseline approach where no mitigation approach is applied.

  • A new method for approximating the average run length (ARL) of cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart is proposed. This method uses the conditional expectation for the test statistic before the stopping time and its asymptotic conditional density function. The values obtained by this method are compared with some other methods in normal and exponential case.
