  • To improve the luminance and efficiency of AC PDP, the effects of a square pulse applied to the address electrode during a sustain-period is investigated. Through this experiment, we confirmed the improvement of luminance and efficiency. We performed the temporal behavior measurement for the light emitted from AC PDP at floating state of the address electrode and at various auxiliary voltages (including ground state) applied to the address electrode using the scanned point detecting system. In the case of using an auxiliary voltage pulse, emission starts at the inner edges of the anode and cathode simultaneously. Also, we obtained the larger two discharge volumes compared with the normal sustain discharge where address electrode is floated.

  • We proposed the new reset waveform for reducing reset period. The square pulse is applied to the address electrode when the ramp pulse increases before a discharge occurs between sustain electrodes. If the discharge occurs between address electrode and X electrode, the wall charge is reversely accumulated between sustain electrodes compared with the applying voltage before the discharge occurs between sustain electrodes. So the next discharge more weakly occurs between sustain electrodes. If the more weak discharge is obtained, it can make the low background luminance and the high contrast ratio and reduce ramp up time in the ramp reset waveform.

  • Recently, the wavelet transform has been a new and powerful tool for signal processing. It is more suitable specially for the feature extraction and detection of non-stationary signals than traditional methods such as, the Fourier Transform(FT), the Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and the Least Square Method etc. because of the characteristic of the multi-scale analysis and time-frequency domain localization. The wavelet transform has been developed for the analysis of PD pulse signal to raise in the progress of insulation degradation. In this paper, the wavelet transform was applied to one foundational method for feature extraction. For the obtain experimental data, a computer-aided partial discharge measurement system with a single acoustic sensor was used. If we are applying to the neural network method the accumulated data through the extracted feature, it is expected that we can detect the PD pulse signal in the insulation materials on the on-line.

  • In this study, we examine the effects of auxiliary pulse on the image sticking in ac PDP. A relatively low voltage square pulse applied to the address electrode before and after erasing period is found to be quite effective in reducing the line image sticking in the boundary between off and on block of full white pattern.

  • In this paper, an LPM controller using microprocessor was implemented and adopted Microstep method to control the LPW. In Microstep method, current waveform is sinusoidal not square. This method is characterized by less vibrating, less noisy, and more precise position control. Also, we simulate the static thrust characteristics for each waveform. The experiment was performed according to the mechanical vibration at the acceleration mode and slewing mode. The current tracks reference sinusoidal waveform well and stability was improved as we expected. Therefore, the possibility of the open loop position control was proposed.

  • SOQPSK-TG which consists of differential precoder and CPM modulator was adopted as telemetry standard because of its high power and bandwidth efficiency. We proposed four-state Viterbi decoder for SOQPSK-TG. Reducing the trellis state to four was possible by simplifying frequency pulse of SOQPSK-TG to square pulse of symbol length 2 and combing this with differential precoder. Compared with conventional SOQPSK-TG receivers, computer simulation result shows about 1 dB performance improvement was achieved at BER of $10^{-5}$ in AWGN channel.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the fertilizing ability of round spematids isolated from seminiferous tubules. A round spermatid was introduced into the perivitelline space of a mature oocyte using Leitz micromanipulators and then subjected to electrofusion. Electrofusion was induced by applying a single DC pulse of 90V with a duration of 60$\mu$sec using Model 611 Square Wave Stimulator(Phipps and Bird, U.S.A) in 0.3 M sucrose fusion medium containing 0.05mM CaCl2 and 0.1mM MgSO4, Oocyte pre-activation was conducted by exposure to a single DC(80V, 80$\mu$sec) pulse in electrofusion medium at 1 hour before electrofusion. The incidence of fusion with pre-activated oocytes(23.8%, 57/239) was higher than that with nonactivated oocytes(6.7%, 3/45). The most of electro-stimulated mouse oocytes cleaved regardless of the success or failure of fusion. Karyotyping of embryos that developed into blastocysts after exposure to the fusion pulse were performe. We found that blastocysts from the fused oocytes were diploid whereas blastocysts from the unfused oocytes were haploid. About 11.7 and 11.5% of fused and unfused oocytes were developmental potentials of fused and unfused oocytes. Therefore, these results suggest that the mouse mture oocyte can be fertilized by fusion with a round spermtid and subsequently developed normally.

  • MR(magnetic resonance) image of moving organ such as heart shows serious distortion of MR image due to motion itself. To eliminate motion artifacts, MRI(magnetic resonance imaging) scan sequences requires a trigger pulse like ECG(electro-cardiography) R-wave. ECG-gating using cardiac cycle synchronizes the MRI sequence acquisition to the R-wave in order to eliminate image motion artifacts. In this paper, we designed ECG/PPG(photo-plethysmography) gating system which is for eliminating motion artifacts due to moving organ. This system uses nonmagnetic carbon electrodes, lead wire and shield case for minimizing RF(radio-frequency) pulse and gradient effect. Also, we developed a ECG circuit for preventing saturation by magnetic field and a finger plethysmography sensor using optic fiber. And then, gating pulse is generated by adaptive filtering based on NLMS(normalized least mean square) algorithm. To evaluate the developed system, we measured and compared MR imaging of heart and neck with and without ECG/PPG gating system. As a result, we could get a clean image to be used in clinically. In conclusion, the designed ECG/PPG gating system could be useful method when we get MR imaging of moving organ like a heart.

  • This study performed the 3-dimensional inspection analysis for cavitation by using the ultrasonic pulse velocity method to detect detailed various cavitations in a concrete test material. The internal-void are made of non-void test material and two types of which a regular square type and a rectangle type that produced through the 3-dimensional cavitation to put into a $500{\ast}500{\ast}500mm$ sized non-reinforced concrete test material. The tomography method for the ultrasonic pulse velocity method was used for the non-destructive test. As a result, this study has found that it is possible to visualize the cavitation as an image, and to analyze the internal-void in detail by the non-destructive method.

  • Novel characterization of thermal properties of a battery has been introduced by defining its frequency-dependent thermal impedance function. Thermal impedance function can be approximated as a thermal impedance spectrum by analyzing experimental temperature transient which is related to the thermal impedance function through Laplace transformation. In order to obtain temperature transient, a process has been devised to generate external heat pulse with heating wire and to measure the response of battery. This process is used to study several commercial Li-ion batteries of cylindrical type. The thermal impedance measurements have been performed using potentionstat/galvanostate controlled digital signal processor, which is more commonly available than flow-meter usually applied for thermal property measurements. Thermal impedance spectra obtained for batteries produced by different manufactures are found to differ considerably. Comparison of spectra at different states of charge indicates independence of thermal impedance on charging state of battery. It is shown that thermal impedance spectrum can be used to obtain simultaneously thermal capacity and thermal conductivity of battery by non-linear complex least-square fit of the spectrum to thermal impedance model. Obtained data is used to simulate a response of the battery to internal heating during discharge. It is found that temperature inside the battery is by one-third larger that on its surface. This observation has to be considered to prevent damage by overheating.
