  • Excessive torsional vibrations from marine engine shafting systems can be reduced by using torsional vibration dampers. But in order to be tuned effectively, the dampers should be designed through the optimum design procedure. In this paper, the procedure to get the optimum values of system parameters of spring-viscous dampers using effective modal mass of inertia and stiffness is suggested and the damping is determined by the exact algebra optimization method. The validity of the suggested method is confirmed through the application to a 1800 kW four cycle diesel engine and generator system.

  • The drivers of commercial vehicle easily feel tired because of a long time driving and bad road condition. Therefore it is very important to make the driver seat comfortable. This paper introduces the suspension system of driver's seat using magnetic force. The combination of linear spring and magnetic force can make nonlinear spring which has optimal stiffness for minimal vibration transmissibility. The vibrations of driver's seat floor are measured in various road condition. And the numerical simulations and experiments are performed to define the optimal parameter of magnetic suspension system.

  • This paper presents designing method to reduce the noise and vibration in the wine refrigerator. To improve the noise and gas pulsation of the compressor the silencer is designed. Base plate of the refrigerator is modified to reduce the vibration by the modal testing. By applying the spring grommet, we can reduce the transmission of the refrigerator of the compressor. We measure PWL and the vibration of LG wine refrigerator and a different wine cellar. As the result of the evaluation, we can rightly take pride in the worldwide recognition of LG wine refrigerator

  • The super-structure in a soil-structure interaction analysis is commonly idealized as lumped parameter system. In this study, the complex shear wall structure is modeled using three different kinds of modeling techniques : 1) full FEM comparatively as an exact solution, 2)equivalent shear spring model assuming mainly shear deformations of the wall, 3) equivalent beam-stick model made by independent static analysis. Dynamic characteristics due to three different modeling methods are compared and investigated before performing structural response analysis. The beam-stick model in comparison to shear spring model gives closer dynamic responses when compared with the full FEM, even though it requires additional unit load static analyses.

  • The differential equations governing free, in-plane vibrations of circular curved beams with elastic springs at beth ends, including the effects of axial deformation, rotatory inertia and shear defamation. are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest three natural frequencies are calculated over a wide range of non-dimensional system parameters, the radial, tangential and rotational spring parameters, the subtended angle, the slenderness ratio and the shear parameter.

  • An estimation technique called the Extended Kalman filter is used to estimate viscous friction, spring initial contraction, and the spring constant on the swash plate of a variable displacement pump. The feasibility of the approach was established using a simulation study. It showed that these parameters could be estimated very accurately in a reliable and independent fashion. A special experimental system was set up to facilitate the measurement of certain states to enhance the Kalman Filtering approach. The aforementioned parameters were estimated and found to be reasonably repeatable for a common operating point. It was very evident that as the operating conditions changed (i.e. temperature) so did the estimated values of certain parameters such as viscous friction. This was believed to be a good verification test for the approach.

  • The aim of the investigation described in this paper is to study the nonlinear parametric vibrations and stability of a simply-supported viscoelastic beam with an intra-span spring. Taking into account a time-dependent tension inside the beam as the main source of parametric excitations, as well as employing a two-parameter rheological model, the equations of motion are derived using Newton's second law of motion. These equations are then solved via a perturbation technique which yields approximate analytical expressions for the frequency-response curves. Regarding the main parametric resonance case, the local stability of limit cycles is analyzed. Moreover, some numerical examples are provided in the last section.

  • The suspension system of cars is composed of dampers and springs, which usually have nonlinear characteristics. The nonlinear characteristics make the differences in the results of analytical models and experiments. In this study, the nonlinear system identification method which does not assume a special form for nonlinear dynamic systems and minimize the error by calculating the error reduction ratio is devised to estimate the nonlinear parameters of the suspension system of an EF-SONATA car from the field running test data. The results show that the spring has a cubic nonlinear term and the damper has a coupled nonlinear term. Also, the numerical results with the estimated nonlinear parameters agree well with the field test data for the different running speeds.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate free vibrations and critical loads of the uniform Beck's columns with a tip spring, carrying a tip mass. The ordinary differential equation governing free vibrations of such Beck's column subjected to a follower force is derived based on the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. Both the divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves that are obtained by solving the differential equation numerically. The critical loads are presented in the figures as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters such as the mass moment of inertia and spring parameter.

  • This research is aimed to design and analyze the performance of double dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) using a pendulum and a spring-mass type absorber for reducing vibration of two-DOF vibration system. The conventional fixed-points method and genetics algorithm (GA) optimization procedure are utilized in designing the optimal parameter of DVA. The frequency and damping ratio are optimized to determine the optimal absorber parameters. The simulation results show that GA optimization procedure is more effective in designing the double DVA in comparison to the fixed-points method. The experimental study is conducted to verify the numerical result.
