  • The ultrasonic motor(USM) has good characteristics such as compact size, silent motion, low speed, high torque and high speed response. The USM is driven by 2-phase AC electricity. The control parameters of USM are voltage, phase difference, frequency of input power, etc. In this paper, we propose voltage difference control. And we designed USM controller to adjust voltage and phase using pLSI(programmable Large Scale Integration). Voltage difference control has many advantages that are lower current, lower power than phase difference control. Especially there is nearly zero ampere at the zero point of speed and torque. we can apply this voltage difference control to the compliance control of DD manipulator.

  • In this study, we designed and made Ultrasonic motor-digital multi controller(USM-DMC) using FPGA chip, A54SX72A made in Actel Corporation. By the minute, USM-DMC can adjust the frequency, duty ratio, and phase difference parameters of USM by digital input to be each 11bit from PC. Therefore, when we use this controller, it is possible to apply typical three parameters individually as well as multi-parameters simultaneously to control the speed and the torque. What is more, the strongest point is that it can trace frequency based on optimized frequency as compared with the phase difference because we can input optimized resonant frequency while in motoring. And we test the speed of USM with the adjustment of multi-parameters, the phase difference-frequency. As the result of the test, in the case of the multi-parameters of the phase difference and frequency, the speed characteristic is more linear and stable, and wider in the range of control than the single-parameter of the phase difference or the frequency.

  • The speed difference in mountainous area is known causing traffic conflicts and accidents. Thus, climbing lanes have popularly been installed in mountainous roads around the world. In the present paper, vehicle speeds within and around climbing lanes of Ho-nam and Jung-ang expressway were collected and evaluated. The evaluation was performed in terms of coefficient of variations which represent dispersion of vehicle speed in climbing lanes. Results show that speed dispersion is more significant at segments before and after climbing lanes than those within climbing lanes. The estimated accident risk was evaluated using The Solomon's u-shaped curve. It was identified that the accident risk is also a lot significant at the same segments as much as 2.2 times greater than those of climbing lanes.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of progressive body weight decrease combined with increasing level of overground walking speed training for patients with chronic stroke. Methods: Eighteen subjects with chronic stroke were composed of the control group (5% body weight support combined with increasing speed training) and the experimental group (progressive body weight decrease with increasing speed training); three sets, three times per week over a period of four weeks. Results: Significant differences in terms of comfortable gait speed (CGS) and the rate of change of CGS were observed between the control and experimental groups (p<0.05). However, no significant difference in the dynamic gait index was observed between the control and experimental groups (p>0.05). A significant difference in the 6 minute walking test (6MWT) was observed for the experimental group, and a significant difference in the rate of change for the 6MWT was observed between the control and experimental groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The progressive body weight decrease combined with increasing in level of overground walking speed training may be a better and more effective method for community walking and reintegration.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the visual evaluation structure about the formal changes of streetscape by the different moving speed in two alternative control plans for the building height and the setback regulation. The virtual reality system is applied to the experimental tool. Eighty-two experimental models are made in consideration of the height and the setback of the building regulation cased by Midou-suji street in Osaka City, Japan. and ten typical models are selected by pre-experiment. Since the changes of the landscape structure consists of the height and the setback of the building, four the evaluation items are set: grade of continuity, order, openness, preference. As there are eighty-two landscape models which are too many to be applied in this experiment, ten role models are drawn out and used in this experiment. The mean difference test, discriminant analysis, and multiple linear regression methods had been used for the statistical analysis methods. The results of this study are as follows; 1) It is found out the fact of the difference evaluation structure amount experiments models. 2) From the sketch analysis and interview, it is found out difference cognition structure by the moving speed and alternatives. 3) From the discriminant and regression analysis, it is found out that the evaluation value about continuity becomes low by the moving speed change from walking speed to driving speed. We suggest that continuous experiment should be made with a variety of groups and models, and general and universal results should also be come out of the experiments above.

  • Speeding is one of major causes of frequent and severe traffic accidents in school zones. In this paper, the long-term effectiveness of speed monitoring displays (SMD) on speed variability was investigated through a field study in a school zone environment. The performance difference was discussed with several dependent variables including average speed, 85th percentile speed, and distribution of speed. Study results showed that the speed of vehicles began to reduce where the driver recognized the presence of an SMD, and about 12.4 percent (5.8km/h) of average speed was reduced at the SMD location. This speed reduction was observed throughout the day regardless of time of day. Statistical tests showed that the speed difference was statistically significant. In addition, analysis results of speed distribution showed that the number of speeding vehicle was greatly reduced after the SMD was installed, and 85th percentile speed also decreased from 54.3km1h to 45.0km/h. Therefore, it was concluded that the application of SMD produced a positive impact on the driver's behavior for a long period of times.

  • The railway bridge design specification used in our country at present, is reflected results that take into account link between vehicle and roadbed according to decision of TGV vehicle style in 1994, and executes design verification. Hereafter, the particular loading condition and the design speed of the high-speed EMU that is recognized to the next generation of high speed railway, are plain difference with TGV vehicle style decided in 1994. The effect that these load and design speed get in roadbed, especially superstructure, displays difference with the existent high speed railway. The goal of this study is to choose the suitable bridge type, and to reduce the construction cost for the next generation of railway, i.e., the high-speed EMU.

  • In order to elucidate the modes of double-droplet combustion speed in premixed spray flame, the difference between flame propagation speed and droplet cluster disappearance speed are experimentally investigated using a premixed spray burner system, It was confirmed that flame speed concerned with premixed-mode combustion in the spray flame was approximately 2.0 m/s in average while mean disappearance speed of droplet clusters, which were dominated by diffusion-mode combustion in downstream of the flame, was evaluated as much as 0.45 m/s. It was clarified that both characteristics of premixed-mode and diffusion-mode combustion in spray flames are of much difference in nature, even though both speed, which are supposed to depend on local properties of the spray itself and flow conditions surrounding droplet clusters, are scattered in experiments.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the formation of internal wind paths of open space and its effect on meteorological factors and the generation of negative air ions. Various types of internal wind paths of open space were formed. Subsequently, changes in meteorological factors in each type were measured and the generated negative air ions were analyzed. The four key findings of the study are summarized as follows. First, the average wind speed formed inside the open space was analyzed such that the difference in wind speed was dependent on the difference in the composition of the wind path. Second, the negative air ion generation was observed to have the same trend as the average wind speed difference. Third, changes to the meteorological factors were more evident depending on the difference in wind path formation patterns. Solar radiation was expected to be highly affected by the physical structure (direction) of the target site. The relative humidity was found to show large difference depending on the different wind path type; however, this difference was significantly reduced when converting to absolute humidity. Fourth, it was found that the wind path formation type of open space affects meteorological factors through path analysis, and the changed meteorological factors affect the amount of generated negative air ions. Two conclusions can be obtained based on these results. First, the changes in internal wind speed formation of open space directly reduced the amount of generated negative air ions. Second, the changes in wind speed affect meteorological factors as well as the amount of generated negative air ions.
