In this paper, we propose the improved noise power estimation in speech enhancement under various noise environments. The previous MS algorithm tracking the minimum value of finite search window uses the optimal power spectrum of signal for smoothing and adopts minimum probability. From the investigation of the previous MS-based methods it can be seen that a fixed size of the minimum search window is assumed regardless of the various environment. To achieve the different search window size, we use the noise classification algorithm based on the Gaussian mixture model (GMM). Performance of the proposed enhancement algorithm is evaluated by ITU-T P.862 perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) under various noise environments. Based on this, we show that the proposed algorithm yields better result compared to the conventional MS method.
Accurate peak response estimation of a seismically excited structure with frictional damping system (FDS) is very difficult since the structure with FDS shows nonlinear behavior dependent on the structural period, loading characteristics, and relative magnitude between the frictional force and the excitation load. Previous studies have estimated the peak response of the structure with FDS by replacing a nonlinear system with an equivalent linear one or by employing the response spectrum obtained based on nonlinear time history and statistical analysis. In case that earthquake excitation is defined probabilistically, corresponding response of the structure with FDS becomes to have probabilistic distribution. In this study, nonlinear time history analyses were performed for the structure with FDS subjected to artificial earthquake excitation generated using Kanai-Tajimi filter. An equation for the probability density function (PDF) of the displacement response is proposed by adapting the PDF of the normal distribution. Coefficients of the proposed PDF are obtained by regression of the statistical distribution of the time history responses. Finally, the correlation between the resulting PDFs and statistical response distribution is investigated.
The main purpose of this study is to derive a regression equation that predicts the individual differences in activity energy expenditure (AEE) using accelerometer during different types of activity. Two subject groups were recruited separately in time: One is a homogeneous group of 94 healthy young adults with age ranged from $20\sim35$ yrs. The other subject group has a broad spectrum of physical characteristics in terms of age and fat ratio. 226 adolescents and adults of age ranged from $12\sim57$ yrs and fat ratio from $4.1\sim39.7%$ were in the second group. The wireless 3-axis accelerometers were developed and carefully fixed at the waist belt level. Simultaneously the total calorie expenditure was measured by gas analyzer. Each subject performed walking and running at speeds of 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5 km/hr. A generalized sensor-independent regression equation for AEE was derived. The regression equation was developed fur walking and running. The regression coefficients were predicted as functions of physical factors-age, gender, height, and weight with multivariable regression analysis. The generalized calorie estimation equation predicts AEE with correlation coefficient of 0.96 and the average accuracy of the accumulated calorie was $89.6{\pm}7.9%$.
This paper describes real time implementation of subband sound localization system on a floating-point DSP TI TMS320C31. The system determines two dimensional location of an active speaker in a closed room environment with real noise presents. The system consists of an two microphone array connected to TI DSP hosted by PC. The implemented sound localization algorithm is Subband CPSP which is an improved version of traditional CPSP (Cross-Power Spectrum Phase) method. The algorithm first split the input speech signal into arbitrary number of subband using subband filter banks and calculate the CPSP in each subband. It then averages out the CPSP results on each subband and compute a source location estimate. The proposed algorithm has an advantage over CPSP such that it minimize the overall estimation error in source location by limiting the specific band dominant noise to that subband. As a result, it makes possible to set up a robust real time sound localization system. For real time simulation, the input speech is captured using two microphone and digitized by the DSP at sampling rate 8192 hz, 16 bit/sample. The source location is then estimated at once per second to satisfy real-time computational constraints. The performance of the proposed system is confirmed by several real time simulation of the speech at a distance of 1m, 2m, 3m with various speech source locations and it shows over 5% accuracy improvement for the source location estimation.

A straightforward method for optimal determining of a high frequency inductor's parasitic capacitance is presented. The proposed estimation method is based on measuring the inductor's impedance samples over a limited frequency range bordering on the resonance point considering k-dB deviation from the maximum impedance. An optimized solution to k could be obtained by minimizing the root mean squared error between the measured and the estimated impedance values. The model used to provide the estimations is a parallel RLC circuit valid at resonance frequency which will be transferred to the real model considering the mentioned interval of frequencies. A straightforward algorithm is suggested and programmed using MATLAB which does not require a wide knowledge of design parameters and could be implemented using a spectrum analyzer. The inputs are the measured impedance samples as a function of frequency along with the diameter of the conductors. The suggested algorithm practically provides the estimated parameters of a real inductance model at different frequencies, with or without design information. The suggested work is different from designing a high frequency inductor; it is rather concentration of determining the parameters of an available real inductor that could be easily done by a recipe provided to a technician.

In this paper, the new method that estimates a sensing ability of smart sensor will be proposed. A study is estimation method that evaluates sensing ability about smart sensor respectively. According to acceleration(g) and displacement changing, we estimated sensing ability of smart sensor using SAI(Sensing Ability Index) method respectively. Smart sensors was made fer experiment. The types of smart sensor are two types(hard and soft smart sensor). Smart sensors developed for recognition of material. Experiment and analysis are executed for estimate the SAI method. In develop a smart sensor, the SAI method will be useful for finding optical design condition of smart sensor that can sense a material. And then dynamic characteristics of smart sensors(frequency changing, acceleration changing, critical point, etc.) are evaluated respectively through new method(SAI) that use the power spectrum density. Dynamic characteristic of sensor is evaluated with SAI method relatively. We can use the SAI for finding critical point of smart sensor, too.

In this paper, the DoA(Direction of Arrival) estimator using unitary MUSIC algorithm is studied. The complex-valued correlation matrix of MUSIC algorithm is transformed to the real-valued one using unitary transform for easy implementation. The eigenvalue and eigenvector are obtained by the combined Jacobi-CORDIC algorithm. CORDIC algorithm can be implemented by only ADD and SHIFT operations and MUSIC spectrum computed by 256 point DFT algorithm. Results of unitary MUSIC algorithm designed by System Generator for FPGA implementation is entirely consistent with Matlab results. Its performance is evaluated through hardware co-simulation and resource estimation.
Although a frequency analysis by FFT algorithm has been widely used in the vibration community, this approach has somewhat limited features when an analysist want to see the details of frequency trends because FFT shows only energy contents along frequencies. So the concept of instantaneous frequency that represents the dominant frequency component at each time needs to be introduced. In this paper, to get the instantaneous frequency, two methods are used. Methods using Hilbert transform and evolutionary spectrum are those. One of the problems of estimating instantaneous frequency using Hilbert transform is that it is normally very sensitive to signal to noise ratio(SNR) because of the differentiation. Moving window is applied on the estimation of instantaneous frequency, and instantaneous frequency histogram are used to handle this problem and proved to be very effective. Computer simulations for various signals have been done to understand the characteristics of instantaneous frequency. The usefulness of signal analysis using instantaneous frequency was tested by three simple experiments, which were engine experiment, beam experiment, and car door experiment. The instantaneous frequency analysis is found to be a useful technique to analyze the signals that have time varying frequencies.

Wind turbulence data is required for engineering calculations of gust speeds, mean and fluctuating loading. Spectral densities are required as input data for methods used in assessing dynamic response. This study is concerned with the estimation of daily instantaneous maximum wind velocity in the meteorological major cities (selected each 6 points) during the yearly 1987-2016.12.1. The purpose of this paper is to present the power spectral densities of the daily instantaneous maximum wind velocity. In the processes of analysis, used observations data obtained at Korea Meteorological Adminstration(KMA), it is assumed as a random processes. From the analysis results, in the paper estimated power spectral densities function(Blunt model) shows a very closed with von Karman and Solari's spectrum models.
