  • Green Infrastructure has been considered as one of strategies for flood mitigation in cities. Although, the diverse benefits of green infrastructure implementation are studies, there is a lack of research on the relationship between spatial composition and configuration of green infrastructure and urban flood mitigation. To address this gap, this study 1) utilized high-resolution satellite imagery to analyze spatial composition and configuration of green infrastructure in highly developed seven cities in South Korea, and 2) conducted an empirical analysis to find the relationship between economic losses from flooding and spatial patterns of green infrastructure and development patterns. The results of this research will be helpful for urban planners to prepare green infrastructure implementation guidelines for effective urban flood mitigation.

  • In this study, the change characteristics of urban spatial structure in Daegu were analyzed connecting with urban planning for efficient urban management. Urban development process from 1970 to 2010 in Daegu was analyzed utilizing Getis-Ord $G_i^*$ methodology, a spatial statistical method, and it was identified that Daegu was in the stage of disurbanization. However, as Daegu orients multi-nuclei city, it was difficult to explain the stage of urban development after disurbanization in 2000. Accordingly, to analyze detailed changes in spatial structure in multi-centric areas after 2000, population, land price and employment factor changes were analyzed using Bachi Measurement. According to analytical results, multi-centralization process has been continued in Daegu. Urban core area and Chilgok area showed spatial structure change into distribution process, Ansim area into concentration process, and Seongseo and Talseo area into concentration and distribution process. Therefore, urban planning considering the regional characteristics are needed for efficient urban management.

  • The Korean economy has recently changed from industry-based economy toward information-based one, empha-sizing on information utiliation and technological development. It is important to examine the background for the incoming information society and spatial aspect of infromation, because informati-zation process itself contains spatial features like spatial concentrtion and dispersion. This paper generally focuses on the socio-cultural aspects of the informati-zation aspects. The main questions are as follows: 1) what are the ain questions of the exsisting Korean case studies on the informatization; 2) how can we find the charateristics of spatial concentration of informatization by informatization indices; 3) is there any relationship between the degree of informatiztion and regional development? The results of this study can be found in the following facts: (1) The exsisting studies cannot be generallized as spatial analysis on the informatization In general, they focus only a single aspect of information industry or information job. Futhermore, their spatial unit of analysis is limited to provincial level, rather thn city-level micro study. (2) There are big differences between the Capital region, especially Seoul, and others with regard to the socio-cultural aspects of informatiation. Such informatization is concentrated in Seoul. Inchon and Kyeonggi-do, which are the better positions in information intensive activities. (3) The regional differences for the level of informatization are much bigger than those for the level of welfare, suggesting that the informatization tends to concentrate in specified large cities like Seoul. It is clear the Korea is now entering the initial stage of information society.

  • This study is to find a theoretical basis for the effective teaching-learning of the geographical concept through comparing two cognitive pshychological perspectives: Piaget's cognitive development stage theory and Vygotsky's theory with higher mectal function and zone of proximal development(ZPD). Piaget't theory of cognitive development stage has been empirically proved in the spatial concept development and provided a basis for geographical educational psychology. In spite of this contribution, it has its own limitation in that students cannot learn cocepts beyond their cognitive development stage. On the other hand, Vygotsky supposed that concept development has been done by teaching-learning. This study suggests that Vygotsky's theory gives more comprehensive thoretical basis for its effective teaching-learning about the geographical concept development.

  • Purpose: Lately, The mixed use development on railroad site came up in government policy about securing development available land for public rental housing and social cohesion. The Purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial composition characteristic in housing development example of domestic and foreign through the mixed-use development of railway depot. Method: Site cases are as follows: Shimura Depot(Japan), Kowloon Bay Depot(Hongkong), Chai Wan Depot (Hongkong), Tsuen Wan Depot(Hongkong), Montparnasse Station(France), Euralille Depot(France), Sin Jeong Depot (Korea), Tai Wai Depot(Hongkong), Tseung Kwan O Depot(Hongkong) and Rive Gauche(France). Railway Depot caused various problems such as the lacking of the feeling of solidarity of local inhabitants and the sense of community. In the case of Hong Kong and a France development example to solve these problems, the architectural characteristics appears. Result: At first it is located facilities together such as commerce, duties, the culture. Further, the publicity of the house place is strengthened because an open space, a park are developed on the railroad site. And a variety of connection systems appear between the outside space with a house housing complex built on the artificial ground. Particularly, the development example has an approach and convenience, and it was confirmed that publicness was considerably high.

  • This study investigates the utilities of spatial analysis in the context of survey research using Geographical Information System(GIS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) which take account of spatial heterogeneity. Many social phenomena involve spatial dimension, and with the development of GIS, GPS receiver, and online location-based services, spatial information can be collected and utilized more easily, and thus application of spatial analysis in the survey research is getting easier. The traditional OLS regression models which assume independence of observations and homoscedasticity of errors cannot handle spatial dependence problem. GWR is a spatial analysis technique which utilizes spatial information as well as attribute information, and estimated using geographically weighted function under the assumption that spatially close cases are more related than distant cases. Residential survey data from a Primary Autonomous District are used to estimate a model of public service satisfaction. The findings show that GWR handles the problem of spatial auto-correlation and increases goodness-of-fit of model. Visualization of spatial variance of effects of the independent variables using GIS allows us to investigate effects and relationships of those variables more closely and extensively. Furthermore, GIS and GWR analyses provide us a more effective way of identifying locations where the effect of variable is exceptionally low or high, and thus finding policy implications for social development.

  • Spatial planning, is required to be conceptualized corresponding to the shifts in planning paradigm through logical and systematic approaches. The concept of planning, thus, should be considered in terms of not only the planning discipline but also the planning activities or practices. This study aims to review and examine the concept of spatial planning based on the different approaches of planning and analyze the difference between land use planning, then review a meaning of spatial planning in terms of its dimensions. The research range will be limited to only the concept of spatial planning and survey was carried on through collecting the secondary research data by literature reviews and both descriptive and comparative approaches will be applied concurrently. The key findings of the study can be found as follows: Firstly, spatial planning has been reviewed with regard to theoretical, practical and integrated approaches. Secondly, the concept of spatial planning has been examined in terms of definitions, dimensions and analysis criteria and then analyzed conceptual differences compared with traditional land use planning. Finally, a meaning of spatial planning has been highlighted based on the dimensions of spatial planning, such as future visions, policy toolbox, sustainable development and inclusivity.

  • As open source can reduce costs and apply to various fields rapidly, many countries have actively adopted open source. However, geo-spatial open source in Korea is not actively promoted yet comparing to other countries having similar infra environments. In this study, we analyzed the perception of geo-spatial open source, utilization status, the development possibility and future direction using questionnaire survey completed by experts dealing with spatial information. The survey result shows that many experts have experiences of using geo-spatial open source but they got a lack of understanding about open source license or regulations and only a few people got professional training. Insufficient references, the difficulty of maintenance, lack of support and low technical reliability have hindered the adoption of geo-spatial open source. Only some part of geo-spatial open source software or libraries in some field have been used in the country. However, many researchers rate highly development potential and plan to use geo-spatial open source soon. If user's convenience, reference materials, technical trust and policy support are improved, open source field for spatial information will be developed greatly in the future.

  • With the rapid development of information technology, it is now possible to analyze the spatial patterns of cultivated land and its evolution by combining GIS, geostatistical analysis models and spatiotemporal big data for the dynamic monitoring and management of cultivated land resources. The spatial pattern of cultivated land and its evolutionary patterns in Luoyang City, China from 2009 to 2019 were analyzed using spatial autocorrelation and spatial autoregressive models on the basis of GIS technology. It was found that: (1) the area of cultivated land in Luoyang decreased then increased between 2009 and 2019, with an overall increase of 0.43% in 2019 compared to 2009, with cultivated land being dominant in the overall landscape of Luoyang; (2) cultivated land holdings in Luoyang are highly spatially autocorrelated, with the 'high-high'-type area being concentrated in the border area directly north and northeast of Luoyang, while the 'low-low'-type area is concentrated in the south and in the municipal area of Luoyang, and being heavily influenced by topography and urbanization. The expansion determined during the study period mainly took place in the Luoyang City, with most of it being transferred from the 'high-low'-type area; (3) elevation, slope and industrial output values from analysis of the bivariate spatial autocorrelation and spatial autoregressive models of the drivers all had significant effects on the amount of cultivated land holdings, with elevation having a positive effect, and slope and industrial output having a negative effect.
