  • In order to estimate the performance of a conical cutter depending on the insert size, this study measured forces acting on conical cutters with different cutter spacings, penetration depths and skew angles using slim and heavy conical cutters. When cutter spacings ranged from 12 to 27 mm, the deviations of mean cutter forces with cutter depths appeared smaller compared to other cutter spacings. When skew angle is $0^{\circ}$, the optimal S/d ratio was obtained in the range of 4 to 4.5 for which specific energy of cutting was minimized. It were usually found in the range of 1 to 5. However, when skew angle is $6^{\circ}$, the optimal S/d ratio was obtained in the range of 1 to 3. The simple comparison results shows that the performance of slim cutter was superior to that of heavy cutter, but the use of heavy cutter can be effective, considering the cutter consumption and cutter damage when the strength of the ground is high enough.

  • The evaluate the effect of plant spacing on cured leaf of burley tobacco, the row spacings divided to 90, 105, 120cm and hill spacings to 30, 35, 40cm within each row. Growth amount per plant increased with thinner row and wider hill spacing in the same planting density. Relative light intensity increased with thinner row spacing in cutters and leaf and showed the positive correlation with quality. When the planting density was equal, the wider hill spacings, the more effective in utillization of solar radiation. The more plants per l0a were, the greater yield was obtained, and in the case of 3,200 plants per 10a (the most dense planting plot) was 267kg. But, quality, total-alkaloid and total-nitrogen content decreased with dense planting. Value per 10a was highest in the plots of 90 $\times$ 40cm and $105{\times}40cm$. In conclusion the optimum density level was 2,400 to 2,700 plants per 10a and spacing of tobacco either in 105 $\times$ 35 cm or 105 $\times$ 40cm seems to be most appropriate.

  • Dipped track profiles between rail transit stations can significantly reduce propulsive energy, braking energy and travel times. This work quantifies their potential benefits for circumstances reflected in various values for dips, speed and acceleration limits, station spacings, and available power. A deterministic simulation model has been developed to precisely estimate train motions and performance using basic equations for kinematics, resistance, power and braking. For a dip of 1% of station spacing, in which gradients never exceed 4%, our results show savings (compared with level tracks) exceeding 9% for propulsive energy, 15% for braking energy and 5% for travel time between stations.

  • This paper describes an experimental investigation on the effect of concrete strength on tension stiffening behavior. Total ten direct tension specimens were tested with concrete compressive strength range up to 900kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. From the experimental program, it was observed that higher strength concrete specimens provides smaller crack spacings and less stiffening effect.

  • A simple numerical procedure is presented to determine the stress intensity factors for crack in a stiffened panel subjected to a uniaxial uniform stress normal to the crack. Two types of stiffened panels are analyzed by the finite element method for various values of crack lengths, stiffness ratios, and stiffener spacings. From the finite element solution, the stress intensity factors were determined by using hybrid extrapolation method. Results are presented in graphical forms for upper mentioned parameters.

  • Jointed rock is often modeled using ubiquitious joint models, anisotropic plasticity models with yield condions that simulate slip along joint sets. In this paper, a ubiquitous joint model is derived for a rock mass cut by two sets of continuous joints. The model is used to compute the bearing capacity of a footing resting on jointed rock. Comparison to a series of Distinct Element simulations with different joint spacings, suggests that ubiquitous joint modles are only appropriate when the joint spacing is small.

  • We present spectroscopic methods to analyze the structural parameters of tandem Fabry-Perot interferometers. By using laser beams of two different frequencies by several tens of GHz, we investigated the cavity spacings of the two interferometers and ways to measure and to find the limitation of the neccesary conditions between the two interferometers. All of the theoretical results has been also confirmed experimentally.ntally.

  • Objectives of this study is to investigate experimentally the behaviors of high strength concrete columns made with Belite cement by comparing with those of normal concrete columns. For the Belite high strength concrete columns and normal concrete columns having different core sizes, lateral reinforcement ratios and spacings, the experiment are performed and the behaviors of the columns like the confining effect are analyzed and discussed.

  • This paper concerns a modified perturbation method and a least square approach to synthesize an optimum beam pattern of a thinned sensor array with respect to element spacing. In the modified perturbation, the antenna spacing is perturbed iteratively such that the sidelobes are equalized via a linear programming approach. The least square approach is proposed to improve the array performance for the thinned array using the fact that the number of sidelobes is more than the number of element spacings. It is demonstrated that the least square approach performs better than the modified perturbation method.

  • In this paper, we develop a symbol/frame time and carrier frequency synchronization scheme for multi-carrier signaling in wireless mobile channels. The proposed scheme achieves simultaneous time synchronization and carrier frequency offset estimation. Simulation results show that the frequency offset of multiple sub-carrier spacings can be estimated and that performance is improved with robustness regardless of the cyclic prefix length.
