A Car License Plate Recognition Using Colors Information, Morphological Characteristic and Neural Network (컬러 정보 및 형태학적 특징과 신경망을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of recognizing the vehicle license plate using color space, morphological characteristics and ART2 algorithm. Morphological characteristics of old and/or new style vehicle license plate among the candidate regions are applied to remove noise areas using 8-directional contour tracking algorithm, then follow by the extraction of vehicle plate. From the extracted license plate area, plate morphological characteristics of each region are removed. After that, labeling algorithm to extract the individual characters are then combined. The classified individual character and numeric codes are applied to the ART2 algorithm for the learning and recognition. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed extraction and recognition of vehicle license method, we have run experiments on 100 green plates and white plates. Experimental results shown that the proposed license plate extraction and recognition method was effective.

A Chronological Study on the Transformation and the Spatial Characteristics of Inpatient Care Facilities in the United States (미국의료시설 병동부의 시대적 변천과 공간적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study aims to emphasize interrelation between healthcare policies, design standards and hospital architecture of the United States since 1950s; to examine spatial characteristics of inpatient care facilities through case studies; and to consider the social implication of these spatial changes. Methods: In this study, reviewing the overall healthcare system, design standards and inpatient care facilities of the United States since 1950s, a total of five inpatient care facilities, one for each period, were selected in order to analyze the spatial characteristics. The spatial maps of Space Syntax were employed for analyzing five case studies. Results: The distance between the nursing station, the support service, and inpatient room were getting closer. The spatial structure of inpatient care facilities is transformed from tree structures to annular tree structures. This result shows that the efficiency between patient, staff and support service is higher and the depth of the spaces is getting deeper, which indicates that efficiency for improving healthcare quality affect the spatial structure of inpatient care facilities. Implications: In the future, if Korea's health policy is changed to a demand-oriented health care policy, this conclusion predicts medical planning of hospital will be focused on the efficiency.

  • Interior Coordination is the activity of making characteristic living space by planning and harmonizing various interior elements. In modern society, the taste and needs of the residents are getting varied and segmented, and the role of interior coordination is getting more important because that reflects cultural codes and trends and satisfies residents' needs. This study aims to investigate awareness and needs about interior coordination targeting apartment residents, and to provide fundamental data that could attribute to the planning of unique and diverse residential spaces. Methods of study include the literature research and the empirical study. Elements of interior coordination were extracted through the literature review, and the questionnaire was developed using these elements. And then a survey was carried out targeting apartment residents of Busan. The result shows that most of the residents were much interested in interior coordination, and they recognized it's importance. They wanted to plan and select the elements by themselves, but were passive in actual execution because of the difficulties in execution methods and economical conditions. There were certain differences between the styles of their own houses and the preferred styles, but they did not try actively to reconcile the differences. Therefore, various methods of interior coordination should be developed and proposed which are easy and effective for actual execution, and various media should be provided by which residents could easily get informations on design elements. Also, the concept and method of interior coordination should be considered from the very first stage of residential planning, and the replacement and modification of interior coordination could be easily done according to the change of life cycle and life styles.

An Analysis of Green Space Base for Networking in Daegu Metropolitan Municipality (녹지연계망 조성을 위한 거점 분석 -대구광역시의 사례 -)

  • The objective of this research was an investigation of the important green spaces in Daegu and to present the basic frame of green network in Daegu. Present the condition of the significant green spaces is as follows: In the 3km radius of the city center, the isolation and discontinuation of the green spaces was extensive, caused by crowding of houses and funeral parlours. Consequently, the isolation relaxation which leads to the additional creation of the green spaces and a buffering plan were demanded. In the transfer area of a 3∼6km radius, which is located between the city center's congested area and the suburb green spaces, the significant green spaces had high connection and buffering characteristic, but in the northwest and the south, serious discontinuation appeared between the suburb green spaces and the city conte green spaces. In the 6∼9km radius, the suburb important green spaces accomplished the function which extended the back core green spaces to the city center area. But creation of buffering green spaces was necessary in part because of proximity to the resident area. The results suggest a connection between green spaces on the base of the distribution of the important green spaces, were as follows: In the 3km radius, irregular direction lines appeared while a schedule one direction line appeared in 3∼6km and 6∼9km radius. The discontinued parts of the green network were caused by industrial complexes, house crowding, and cultivation areas. Consequently, reservation and creation plans of green spaces in response to this were demanded. Through the additional creation of green spaces in the discontinued parts, the basic frame of green network in Daegu was the radiation annular form. And it was suitable to activate the parks and the general green spaces.

  • Rectangular waveguide slot antenna which has simple structure, high efficiency, high trust and small size, is extending in a field of application such as many Radar and Microwave communication. A slot cut into a wall of waveguide is propagated electromagnetic wave to free space it interrtupts the flow of current inner conductor of waveguide. Therefore incident of slot, cutdepth, width, length, i.e. are important parameter of characteristic change of the slot antenna. Result from difficulty of theoretical analysis about slot frequently experimental measured data useful design and manufacture have been accomplished. In this paper, we find the suitable method of analysis that compare two analysis results with measured result of established literature - admittance of slot be solved by propagated power from electric field distribution of slot and mode current computation and accomplishment of computable chart which hasresonant length and cutdepth, incident of slot, i.e. and use the HFSS which applyed finite-element method obtain equal slot analyed method.

Present RFID connection technologies are Auto-lD Lab and EPCglobal Inc. To center research for standardization progress. But, present RFID related researches connected with tag and leader are progressed vigorously and research about middleware or software description to service actuality tooth is insufficient misgovernment. In this treatise, therefore, characteristic of comparison and analyze about EPC network architecture proposed Auto-lD Lab and EPCglobal Inc. and conceptual application architectures had used existent application development and integration.

  • The frequency band $10.5GHz\sim10.7GHz$ provides some of the best angular resolutions using many large and accurate radio telescopes. Developing high performance Bandpass Filter is needed for these equipments to receive low power signals from the space. In this paper, suggests Bandpass Filter for Radio Astronomy equipments. Designed by Microstrip Line for good pass characteristic and suppressing not necessary signals cause of using high frequency. Center frequency is 10.6 GHz and band width is 5% of Center frequency. Manufactured Bandpass Filter is suitable for Radio Astronomy Equipments. Bemuse it matches up to the result by simulate.

  • Beamspace Multiple-Input Multiple Output(MIMO) system can transmit multiple data by using Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator(ESPAR) antenna which has single Radio Frequency(RF)-chain. Beamspace MIMO system can reduce complexity of the system and size of antenna in comparison with the conventional MIMO system because of characteristic of ESPAR antenna using the single antenna and the RF-chain. Heretofore, only the research of transmitting single-carrier has been conducted by the use of beamspace MIMO system. Therefore, in this paper, we propose beamspace MIMO system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) for transmitting the multi-carrier and analysis the performance of this system. We find a proper reactance value which has good performance because proposed system changes the performance by the reactance values of parasitic elements. and we confirm that performance of the proposed system is similar to conventional MIMO system based on OFDM.

  • The causes of the fire casualties were the heat burns, contacted by flame, before the period of industrialization. According to the economic has been developed drastically since 1990, residing space has been become bigger and sophistication and interior finishing materials have been diversified. Therefore, the suffocation casualties, caused by inspiration of toxic combustion gases, have been more increased than the flame casualties in recently. Also, the arson casualties have been increasing with the increasing of insurance crime to take the Insurance money. According to National Emergency Management Agency announcement, 31,778 fires was occurred nationwide in 2006 and the total casualties were 2,180 occurred. 446 persons were died among them. Because the exact investigation of fire, occurred the death, is very especially important that civil and criminal cases will be happened. Therefore, we studied about the cause of fire, the place of origin, and the group of casualties age on the axies of fires, which were occurred recently. And the identification method of fire casualties, the human behavior characteristic, the flame casualties and the suffocation casualties at fire scene.

Numerical Simulation of the Wind Speed Reduction by Coastal Forest Belts (해안림에 의한 풍속저감 효과의 수치적 모의)

  • The objective of this study is to develop numerical simulation model for analysing the wind speed reduction effect by coastal forest belts. The horizontally homogeneous turbulent flow equations, which are derived from the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes method, both above the tree canopy and within the canopy were first formulated, and a first-order closure scheme with the capability of accounting the bulk momentum transport term within the canopy was employed. The averaged equations were solved numerically by finite difference method, FTCS (forward time centered space) scheme. The proposed model was also used to numerically investigate the effects of structural characteristic of forest belt on the wind speed. The effects of maximum leaf area density were evaluated, with the leaf area density of $1.0m^2/m^3$, $2.0m^2/m^3$, $3.0m^2/m^3$, and $4.0m^2/m^3$. Vertical distributions of leaf area, both uniform and varied distribution with a height, were also considered. A comparison of wind profile indicated that there was in good agreements between simulated and measured wind speed. Also, the results showed horizontal wind speed decreased under a height of the tree with increasing maximum leaf area density. In conclusion, in applications where computational efficiency and simplicity are desirable, the proposed numerical model has of great capability to determine the vertical turbulent momentum transport and wind profile in the costal forest belt.
