  • A numerical method based on the spectral collocation method is developed for the steady rotating flows in eccentric annulus. Steady flows between rotating cylinders are of interest on lubrication in large rotating machinery. Steady rotating flow is generated by the rotating inner cylinder with constant angular velocity. The governing equations for laminar flow are simplified from Navier-Stokes equations by neglecting the non-linear convection terms. Integrating the pressure round the rotating cylinder based on the half Sommerfeld method, the load on the cylinder is evaluated with eccentricity. The attitude angle and Sommerfeld variable are calculated from the load. It is found that those values are influenced by the eccentricity. The attitude and Sommerfeld reciprocal are decreased with eccentricity. As expected, the effect of the annular gap ratio on them is negligible.

  • The steady rotating flows in eccentric annulus has been studied by a numerical method based on the spectral collocation method. The inner cylinder has a constant angular velocity while the outer on e is stationary. Flow between eccentric cylinders is of considerable technical importance as it occurs in journal bearings. In the present work, the governing equations for laminar flow are expressed as Navier-Stokes equations, including the non-linear convection terms. The solutions were utilized i, estimate the effects of the nonlinear terms on the load acting on the rotating cylinder. Based on the half and the full Sommerfeld methods, the load on the rotating cylinder is evaluated with eccentricity, by integrating the pressure and skin friction around the cylinder. The attitude angle and Sommerfeld reciprocal are calculated from the load. Also, the torque on the rotating inner cylinder was calculated. considering the skin friction. The attitude angle and Sommerfeld reciprocal are decreased with eccentricity. Viscous damping coefficient due to the skin friction becomes larger with decreasing the annular space. It is found the non-linear effects of the convection terms on the flow and the load are important. especially on the attitude angle, for relatively wide annular configurations however, the effects on those are minor for very narrow annular ones.

  • For the purpose of the efficient derivation of the closed-form Green's functions by which MoM matrix elements can be analytically evaluated, the optimum approximation path which is deformed from the Sommerfeld integration path on the complex $k_{\rho}$-plane is proposed based upon the steepest descent method and three level approximation procedure.

  • The appropriate radiation conditions of ship motion problem with advancing speed in frequency domain are investigated from a theoretical and practical point of view. From extensive numerical experiments that have been conducted for evaluation of the relevant radiation conditions, a hybrid radiation technique is proposed in which the Sommerfeld radiation condition and the free surface damping are mixed. Based on the comparison with the results of the translating and pulsating Green function method, the optimal damping factor of the hybrid radiation technique is selected, and the observed limitations of the proposed hybrid radiation technique are discussed, along with its accuracy obtained from the numerical solutions. Comparative studies of the forward-speed seakeeping prediction methods available confirm that the results of applying the hybrid radiation technique are relatively similar to those obtained from the translating and pulsating Green function method. This confirmation is made in comparisons with the results of solely applying either the free surface damping, or the Sommerfeld radiation condition. By applying the proposed hybrid radiation technique, the wave patterns, hydrodynamic coefficients, and motion responses of the Wigley III hull are finally calculated, and compared with those of model tests. It is found that, in comparison with the model test results, the three-dimensional Rankine source method adopting the proposed hybrid radiation technique is more robust in terms of accuracy and numerical stability, as well as in obtaining the forward speed seakeeping solution.

  • The paper deals with the rigorous analysis of three layered media structures. The dyadic Green's function for three layer medium is derived. The Green's functions belonging to the kernel of the integral equation are expressed as Sommerfeld integrals, in which surface wave effects are automatically included. We propose this integral representation as the most appropriate in the spatial domain analysis of slive structure. Also, we used extraction method for the convergence of this integral function. Finally, some numerical results are presented. These computed value show good agreement with proposed this method.

  • In the integration of Sommerfeld type for space domain Green's function, a accurate closed-from Green's function method provides more exact solution than the typical complex image method and two-level method. The accurate closed-form Green's function method is applied to obtain the space domain Green's functions of planar structures with general sources. Please put the abstract of paper here.

  • In the layered medium, infinite Sommerfeld integral must be evaluated to calculate a space domain Green's function. The complex image method and the two-level method provide rapid calculation and accurate solutions in the near-field region. However, in the intermediate and far-field region, the solutions are inaccurate due to the deformation of the sampling contour. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate an accurate closed-form Green's function for coplanar structure by sampling data on the real axis.

  • An approach is presented for efficient numerical integration of the Sormnerfeld type integrals pertinent to the microstrip surface Green's function arising in the problem of an electric current point source on an infinite planar grounded dielectric substrate. This approach, valid for both lossless and lossy dielectric substrates, is based on the deformation of the integration contour via a coordinate transformation and Cauchy's residue theory, and identifies clearly the effects of surface waves. I ts useful application is in a rigorous moment method analysis of micros trip antenna arrays and microstrip guided wave structures. The efficiency and the usefulness of the present approach are emphasized through some numerical calculations of the impedance matrix elements with associated CPU times.

  • Shock wave propagating in the particle suspension has important applications. Examples are shock waves occurring in the solid rocket plume and detonation of dusty particles by shock waves. Experimental and numerical investigations on this subject have drawn much attention. More recently, Sivier et al. numerically simulated the experiment of Sommerfeld using the unstructured adaptive grid. They used the Eulerian-Eulerian approach based on the continuum assumption for both gas and particles. In the present paper, a new numerical method using the Lagrangian particle tracing technique and unstructured particle-adaptive grid for the polydisperse system is presented. It is explained why the existing numerical calculation has showed discrepancy with the experimental results by Sommerfeld.

  • The paper deals with the analysis of radiation characteristics of antenna in the multi-layered media structures. The dyadic Green's function for three layer medium is complex because the Green's functions belonging to the kernel of the integral equation are expressed as Sommerfeld integrals, in which surface wave effects are automatically included. When certain condition are met, the integral can be evaluated approximated by the method of Saddle-point integration. In this study, we propose a method to calculate a radiation pattern for several antennas by using the method of Saddle-point integration. Numerical results show how the radiation characteristics are affected by parameter of dielectric media.
