Localized or solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the pleura has been classified as a type of mesothelioma, arising from the submesothelial connective tissue cells. The preoperative diagnosis of the tumor at the cytologic or histologic level is very important for the proper handling of the lesion. This preoperative diagnosis is now possible by means of the advance in the transthoracic fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) techniques and in the very experience of the cytopathologists. We describe FNA cytologic feature of two cases of SFT arising from the pleura. Cytologic, histologic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic characteristics of pleural SFT are discussed. The tumor cells of SFT are spindle or oval in shape with a variable amount of cytoplasm. They are arranged in irregular trabeculae intimately associated with capillaries. A unique cytologic feature observed in this tumor is that thick, eosinophilic, amorphous collagen bundles are scattered between tumor cells.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) are rare mesenchymal tumors that most commonly develop in the pleura; they rarely involve the diaphragm. MRI has not been widely used to evaluate SFTs of the thoracic cavity, though it may be highly useful in assessing local invasion, predicting malignant potential, and helping in the differential diagnosis. However, MRI findings of malignant SFTs of the diaphragmatic pleura have been described in only two cases. We report a rare case of a malignant solitary fibrous tumor of the diaphragmatic pleura in an 82-year-old man. We describe the clinical and characteristic imaging features, including computed tomography, conventional MRI, and diffusion-weighted imaging. Contrast-enhanced MRI is more accurate than is CT in identifying the origin of SFTs, predicting whether they ae benign or malignant, and assessing local invasion. This imaging modality proved helpful in deciding on the treatment strategy for these rare tumors.
We report a rare case of fibrous dysplasia with the development of a secondary aneurysmal bone cyst presenting as solitary tumor of calvarium. Although fibrous dysplasia with aneurysmal bone cyst is rare, it should be taken into account in differential diagnosis of the osteolytic solitary skull lesion.

Solitary fibrous tumor(SFT) is a spindle cell neoplasm that usually arises in the pleura. Its involvement of the meninges is rare but increasingly being reported. Our case was a 33-year-old man who presented with clonic seizure around the right mouth angle and sensory disturbance at the right hand. Radiological studies showed a large extra-axial, dural-based mass in the left fronto-parietal region, typically isointense with gray matter and heterogeneous strong enhancement on T1-weighted images. Histologically, the tumor was composed of spindle-shaped cells growing in fascicles within the collagenous matrix. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated diffuse CD34 positivity. Awareness of this neoplasm is necessary to accurate diagnosis.
Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura has been classified as a type of mesothelioma. This tumor have been recently described and distinguished from the mesothelioma, immunohistochemically and elect r om ic ro scop ical 1 y Thls 65 years female was admitted with right chest pain, coughing and dysnea. Chest X-ray and C-T scan showed a huge mass in the right thorax. Right thoracotomy was done and a 12$\times$12$\times$6cm(400gm) sized mass was excised, and the tumor had metastasized to the diaphragm, parietal pleura and lung parenchyma. Microscopically, the tumor Is composed of oval-round and plump spindle cells with diffuse pattern. There are occasional mitoses (311 OHPFS) and invasion to lung parenchyma. The immunohistochemical and electromicroscopical findings are consistent with malignant solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura. We experienced a case of pleural malignant solitary fibrous tumor and report this case with the review of literature.

Orbital solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare tumor originating from the mesenchyme. We describe the clinical presentations, radiological and operative findings, and pathological features of a patient with orbital SFT. The patient was a 46-year-old female who presented with progressive proptosis advanced for 20 months. On ophthalmological examination, no visual impairment was detected, but left eye was found to be obviously protruded on exophthalmometry. Orbital magnetic resonance imaging showed a 2.5 ${\times}$ 2 ${\times}$ 2 cm, intensely enhanced mass in the left orbit, which compressed the eyeball forward and the optic nerve downward. The patient underwent frontal craniotomy with superior orbitotomy and gross total resection was performed for the tumor. The histopathological diagnosis including immunohistochemistry was a SFT. After the surgery, proptosis was markedly relieved without visual impairment. Although orbital SFT is extremely rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of orbital tumors. Clinical presentations such as painless proptosis and CD34 immunoreactivity play a significant role in differentiating orbital SFT from other spindle-cell neoplasms of the orbit.
We present a case of a 47-year-old woman with benign solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura originated in the diaphragm which was discovered incidentally on a chest radiograph. Chest radiograph, sonograph, computed tomographic scan and magnetic resonance image studies proved a well circumscribed and lobulated fibrous tumor of the pleura. During the subsequent right thoracotomy, the tumor was found to be encapsulated and consisted of firm mass. It was connected to the diaphragm with $5{\times}4$cm area by pedicle. Most of the tumor was free of adhesion. It was excised completely together with attached diaphragm. The tumor measured $23.5{\times}13.5{\times}8.0$cm and the pathologic diagnosis was benign solitary fibrous tumor and the attached diaphragm was free of disease.
Solitary fibrous tumor is an uncommon submesothelial mesenchymal neoplasm that primarily arises from the pleura. Most solitary fibrous tumors have a benign course, and the single most important predictor of the clinical outcome is the ability to excise the entire lesion. We experienced a case of CSF leakage through a subarachnoid-pleural fistula after resection of a malignant solitary fibrous tumor and the involved rib. We detected CSF leakage via performing CT myelography and we treated this case with hemilaminectomy and dura repair.
Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is rare mesenchymal tumor usually arising from pleura. SFT can be found at all anatomic site in our body but incidence of SFT is much lower in head and neck region especially at lower neck area. We found a case of SFT that presented as a lower neck mass in a 41-year old woman. Ultrasonography showed a 3×1cm sized hypoechoic mass in the intermuscular fat plane of left lower neck, and computed tomography showed a well circumscribed, low-density mass with contrast enhancement. Fine needle aspiration showed no malignant cells with abundant red blood cells, but it was not possible to completely rule out malignant tumors or nodules clinically. Surgery was performed to make a definitive diagnosis and histopathology showed tightly packed, round to fusiform cells with staghorn shaped vessels at microscopic examination. The tumor cell were positive for CD34 but negative for CD31 and S-100 protein.
Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare, slow-growing benign neoplasm, originating from submesothelial Hbroblasts. Approximately 80% of solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura originate in . the visceral pleura and 20% in the parietal pleura. Many of these tumors are pedunculated, attached to the visceral pleura via a well-vasculariEed stalk, and in size from 1 to 36cm with a mean of 6cm. This case report is of a 48 year old woman who presented with dyspnea and right flank pain. Preoperative chest x-ray showed increased hazy density at right lower lung field, and CT scan showed huge heterogeneous mass which was located in right mid and lower thorax. She underwent surgical resec- tion and a lOX15X loom(2200gm weigh) sized large mass was excised. Final histologic diagnosis was solitary fibrous tumor of the plara. The patient was discharged without any complications postoperately.
