This paper examines the sampling and jitter specifications and considerations for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) software receivers. Software radio (SWR) technologies are being used in the implementation of communication receivers in general and GNSS receivers in particular. With the advent of new GPS signals, and a range of new Galileo and GLONASS signals soon becoming available, GNSS is an application where SWR and software-defined radio (SDR) are likely to have an impact. The sampling process is critical for SWR receivers, where it occurs as close to the antenna as possible. One way to achieve this is by BandPass Sampling (BPS), which is an undersampling technique that exploits aliasing to perform downconversion. BPS enables removal of the IF stage in the radio receiver. The sampling frequency is a very important factor since it influences both receiver performance and implementation efficiency. However, the design of BPS can result in degradation of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) due to the out-of-band noise being aliased. Important to the specification of both the ADC and its clocking Phase- Locked Loop (PLL) is jitter. Contributing to the system jitter are the aperture jitter of the sample-and-hold switch at the input of ADC and the sampling-clock jitter. Aperture jitter effects have usually been modeled as additive noise, based on a sinusoidal input signal, and limits the achievable Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Jitter in the sampled signal has several sources: phase noise in the Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) within the sampling PLL, jitter introduced by variations in the period of the frequency divider used in the sampling PLL and cross-talk from the lock line running parallel to signal lines. Jitter in the sampling process directly acts to degrade the noise floor and selectivity of receiver. Choosing an appropriate VCO for a SWR system is not as simple as finding one with right oscillator frequency. Similarly, it is important to specify the right jitter performance for the ADC. In this paper, the allowable sampling frequencies are calculated and analyzed for the multiple frequency BPS software radio GNSS receivers. The SNR degradation due to jitter in a BPSK system is calculated and required jitter standard deviation allowable for each GNSS band of interest is evaluated. Furthermore, in this paper we have investigated the sources of jitter and a basic jitter budget is calculated that could assist in the design of multiple frequency SWR GNSS receivers. We examine different ADCs and PLLs available in the market and compare known performance with the calculated budget. The results obtained are therefore directly applicable to SWR GNSS receiver design.

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) including Global Positioning System (GPS) is an important element for navigation of both the military and civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Contrary to the military UAVs, the civil UAVs use the civil signals which are unencrypted, unauthenticated and predictable. Therefore if the civil signals are counterfeited, the civil UAV’s position can be manipulated and the appropriate movement of the civil UAV to the target point is not achieved. In this paper, spoofing on the autonomous navigation UAV is implemented through field experiments. Although the demanded conditions for appropriate spoofing attack exists, satisfying the conditions is restricted in real environments. So, the Way-point of the UAV is assumed to be known for experiments and assessments. Under the circumstances, GPS spoofing signal is generated based on the Software-based GNSS signal generator. The signal is emitted to the target UAV using the antenna of the spoofer and the effect of the signal is analyzed and evaluated. In conclusion, taking the UAV to the target point is hardly feasible. To implement the spoofing as expectation, the position and guidance system of the UAV has to be known. Additionally, the GPS receiver on the UAV could be checked whether it appropriately tracks the spoofing signal or not. However, the effect of the spoofing signal on the autonomous UAV has been verified and assessed through the experimental results. Spoofing signal affects the navigation system of the UAV so that the UAV goes off course or shows an abnormal operation.

GPS signal is vulnerable to intentional and unintentional interferences since it has a very weak signal power and its structure is well-known. Among the interference rejecting techniques, the ATF is being generally used as a pre-correlation technique. However, it does not have a design parameter relating to the notch width, resulting in the spectral loss around frequency of the interference. The IIR notch filter has a design parameter relating to the notch width and can generate a sharp notch for the CW interference. In this paper, an adaptive IIR notch filter is proposed and the performance is evaluated using software signal generator and real measurements.

A precise echosounding system to investigate the topographical characteristics of the coastal fishing ground was composed of a public-DGPS receiver, a single beam echosounder and a survey software. To confirm the usefulness of the system, a set-net fishing ground and the distribution of artificial reefs were surveyed. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The 2-D positioning error of the public-DGPS receiver with a DGPS mode and a GPS mode was 5.47 m, 7.03 m, respectively. 2. The experimented set-net fishing ground was located on the level ground at the depth of 9-10 m, a small size valley 1-2 m deep and approximately 10 m wide was found at a distance of 120 m from the set-net to the south. 3. In the artificial reefs' water area near the Jaran Bay, it was confirmed that twenty rectangular artificial reefs were established by the piece at the depth of 15-25 m and a natural reef 5-8 m high on the sea bed was located near the group of artificial reefs. 4. It was confirmed that the precise echosounding system was a useful tool in the pre-study to choice an appropriate water area to provide the artificial reef.
In order to meet performance requirements specified by the ICAO in drone operation, a system that provides augmentation information such as SBAS is needed. However, the operating range of the drone is limited in situation where the drone can not received the SBAS message continuously. In this paper, we propose a system to transmit SBAS augmentation message using a separate communication channel assuming the SBAS satellite signal to the drone has been shielded. We implemented the proposed system and verified its performance in the static environment. The DGPS positioning results showed that the accuracy difference is about 10cm, which means the accuracy performance was very similar. In addition, the protection level calculated by the system also shows the difference within 2m from the value calculated by the airborne receiver.
For the study of oceanic surface current, this work presents a system design which is composed of three parts, a Global Positiong System(GPS) unit, a transmitter with radio frequency (RF) modem and an antenna which are housed in a plastic spherical buoy, and computerised of VHF receiving system. The key idea for this study is to employ a commercially available GPS on a drifting buoy and to utilize the receiver position information from the buoy in determining the Lagrangian motion of surface ocean waters. Great efforts has been paid to the system design which would demand several points in harsh conditions common in the sea surface, that is power supply problems housed inside of a plastic buoy, optimizing transmitting radio frequency which limits transmitting distance to a receiving station. for all these difficulties, the system appears to be promising in future oceanic applications and is considered to economical compared to ARGOS drift buoy which is being used by commercial base. We believe that the system needs to be improved in terms of several aspects such as a longer transmitting distance, a power supply and software. for the test experiments in situ, the system has employed off the coast of Ku Ryong Po int the southeast part of Korea and successfully collected the surface current data. The results are presented for two cases from 21 to 31, March 1994 and 21 to 25, June 1994 in terms of current statistics and trajectories of drifting buoys.

ETRI has developed GNSS digitized IF signal generator for providing test and evaluation environment for various software level application and navigation algorithm in Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS). GNSS digitized IF signal generator provides two main capabilities, GPS and Galileo raw data generation and digitized IF signal generation. GNSS digitized IF signal generator consists of five main modules which are GNSS Satellite Orbit Simulation Module, Navigation Message Generation Module, Error Generation Module, GNSS IF Signal Generation Module, and Message & Signal Steering Module. We verified the signal generated by the GNSS signal generation algorithm using software receiver for generation of signal brother to real GNSS signal.
The FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC mission is a micro satellite mission to deploy a constellation of six micro satellites at low Earth orbits. The final mission orbit is of an altitude of 750-800 lan. It is a collaborative Taiwan-USA science experiment. Each satellite consists of three science payloads in which the GPS occultation experiment (GOX) payload will collect the GPS signals for the studies of meteorology, climate, space weather, and geodesy. The GOX onboard FORMOSAT -3 is designed as a GPS receiver with 4 antennas. The fore and aft limb antennas are installed on the front and back sides, respectively, and as well as the two precise orbit determination (POD) antennas. The precise orbit information is needed for both the occultation inversion and geodetic research. However, the instrument associated errors, such as the antenna phase center offset and even the different cable delay due to the geometric configuration of fore- and aft-positions of the POD antennas produce error on the orbit. Thus, the focus of this study is to investigate the impact of POD antenna parameter on the determination of precise satellite orbit. Furthermore, the effect of the accuracy of the determined satellite orbit on the retrieved atmospheric and ionospheric parameters is also examined. The CHAMP data, the FORMOSAT-3 satellite and orbit parameters, the Bernese 5.0 software, and the occultation data processing system are used in this work. The results show that 8 cm error on the POD antenna phase center can result in ~8 cm bias on the determined orbit and subsequently cause 0.2 K deviation on the retrieved atmospheric temperature at altitudes above 10 lan.
A precision orbit determination (POD) system of low Earth orbiter using the GPS dual frequency measurements has been developed. It is an option of KOMPSAT-2 POD process system. In this research, the orbit determination using the real dual frequency carrier phase measurements of the SAC-C satellite was conducted to verify KOMPSAT-2 POD system reliability. The SAC-C satellite is an international cooperative mission between NASA, the Argentine Commission on Space Activities (CONAE), Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES or the French Space Agency), Instituto Nacional De Pesquisas Espaciais (Brazilian Space Agency), Danish Space Research Institute, and Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (Italian Space Agency). The SAC-C was launched at November 21, 2000. The altitude of SAC-C is 702 km and it carries a TurboRogue III GPS and four high gain antennas developed by the JPL. The receiver is able to generate the dual frequency code and carrier phase data. Double-differenced carrier phase measurements were formed using 25 IGS stations. The data were sampled at 30 seconds interval. Fully dynamic approach was adopted for POD. The POD results were compared with those of JPL using GOA n software. The comparison verifies that deci-meter level 3D position accuracy of low Earth orbiting satellite could be achieved. The POD system has been developed successfully.

Since the facility management for various facilities in urban area are conducted by general managers who have poor knowledge for surveying technology, it is not easy to trace the exact location of the facility in a short time with the GIS map only by themselves in the field. In order to improve it, VRS-RTK or SBAS DGPS system integrated with UMPC and PDA which is uploaded GIS field software are being used recently however lot of difficulties are still existed with the GPS positioning in urban area due to the lack of visible satellites, no reception of correction data and multipath error by the interruption of the high buildings and houses etc. Therefore, in this study, we applied with Network DGPS system which allows better reception of satellite signal and correction data even in dense housing areas with the use of GNSS receiver and CDMA mobile phone. Based on the analysis of field data, it was confirmed that standard deviations of the Network DGPS positioning are 0.3 to 0.84m with a very high positioning rate even in dense housing areas. Therefore, it was concluded that the Network DGPS system could be used widely to fast and accurate positioning for various facilities management works in dense housing areas in the future.
