The Relationships Between Children's Emotional Competence and Play Behavior (유아의 정서능력과 놀이행동 간의 관계)

  • The purposes of this study were to assess children's emotional competence, to examine whether there was a difference in children's emotional competence according to their gender, and to investigate the relationship between children's emotional competence and their play behavior. The subjects of this study were 104 four-year-old children(56 boys, 48 girls). Collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation and Pearson's correlation. The results were as follows : First, there was meaningful correlation among the emotional competence measured by teacher, the understanding and expression of emotion and the emotional regulation measured by mother. Second, there was difference in children's emotional competence according to gender. Specifically, girls showed better competence in the socio-behavioral emotional competence and the understanding and expression of emotion than boys. Third, the dramatic play and the group play had some meaningful correlation with the emotional competence measured by teacher and the understanding and expression of emotion measured by mother.

Impact of Emotional Labor on Quality of Service by Social Workers in Public Sector (사회복지전담공무원의 감정노동이 서비스 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently, social welfare officers are suffering from a lot of job stress due to increasing work and are carrying out emotional labor. This study assessed the effect of emotional labor on the quality of welfare service through a questionnaire survey on 937 civil servants in Sejong city and Chungcheongnam-do provinces. First, social welfare officers experienced more than average level of emotional labor, and they performed more internal behavior than surface behavior. Second, the services provided by the social welfare officers were higher than usual, followed by tangibility, assurance, reliability, empathy, and responsiveness. Third, deeping acting had a positive (+) influence on service quality among the sub-factors of emotional labor. In other words, the quality of service increases as the emotional state itself changes, On the other hand, deeping acting did not affect service quality. In the future, policy responses to excessive work burden of social welfare officers should be needed and a manual for responding to emotional labor should be provided.

A Study of Hospital Choice on the Basis of Consumption Values Theory (소비가치 이론에 의한 병원선택 요인 연구)

  • This research is based on the Consumption Values Theory proposed by Sheth(1991). The purpose of this research is finding the factors related to the process of hospital choice. The expectation of six hospital outpatients 600 was analyzed by six consumption values categories: functional value, social value, emotional value, rarity value, condition value, health related values. The main results of this research is as following; 1. In the result of factor analysis 22 consumption value factors which affect the hospital preference were extracted; kindness/clearness, service speed, comfort of space, technical competence in functional values, high income/active social life, low income/blue collar unmarried/man, middle aged/big family, woman/married, introvert in social values, high-class, comfort, reliability in emotional value, newness, classiness in rarity value, social relationship, close to residence, social reputation in conditional values, priority on health, health behavior, active sense of value on health in health related values. 2. The difference of consumption values among hospital types were analyzed. The critical factors in reference for corporate hospitals newly established were kindness/clearness, service speed, convenience, classiness, comfort, and newness. University hospitals were preferred by the factors of reliability, and social reputation. In general hospital, convenience and close to residence were critical factor. 3. In logistic regression, age, marital status, education level and income as socio-demographic variables were significantly related to general hospital choice. Also service speed and close to residence were positively and high income/active social life and high class value were negatively related to general hospital choice. On university hospital choice, age and marital status, education show posive relationship whereas income showing negative relationship. Kindness/clearness, service speed, comfort of space, unmarried/man, comfortable feeling, newness and close to residence showed negative relationship with university hospital selection whereas technical competence, reliability in emotional value, classiness in rarity value, social relationship in functional values showed positive relationship. Lastly kindness/clearness, comfort of space, high income/active social life, unmarried/man, high-class, comfort and newness were positively related to corporate hospitals newly established choice in contrast to negative relationship in reliability in emotional value and classiness. In summary, we found that hospital user also choose to hospital in base of various consumption value. Further studies to investigate the hospital consumer behavior will be needed.

The Relationship between Children's Individual Variables, Mothers' Emotionality and Children's Social Competence (유아의 개인변인 및 어머니의 정서성과 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계)

  • The purpose of this research was to identify the importance of social competence in early childhood, age 3 to 5, by examining the relationship between the children's variables such as gender, age, and temperament, with that of their mothers' emotionality, and the social competence. 72 children in the early childhood age bracket were surveyed. Three major findings were established. Firstly, there were no gender differences in relation to social competence. Children's adaptability and social activity were related to their pro-social behavior and the ability to internalize/externalize problems. Secondly, children exhibited pro-social behavior only when their mother's emotional reactivity was positive. hirdly, children's social competence was influenced by individual variables and their mothers' emotionality. Prosocial behavior, a lower ranking domain, was influenced by children's adaptability and mothers' emotional reactivity. The children's ability to internalize problem was influenced by adaptability. In contrast, The ability to externalize problem was influenced by the range of activities they were involved in. Overall, children's social competence was influenced by their age.

Risk Factors Associated with Emotional and Conduct Behavior Problems of UK Female Adolescents: Comparative Exploration between Non-Stepfamilies and Stepfamilies

  • Adolescents from stepfamilies have been considered as at-risk group of mental and behavioral problems. This study aims to determine whether there is a group difference of emotional or behavior disturbance between young people in step and non-stepfamilies and whether risk factors linked to emotional and behavior symptoms of young people in stepfamilies are different from those of girls in non-stepfamilies. The study used 'the Mental Health of Children and Young People in Great Britain, 2004 (MHCYP 2004)'. In the MHCYP 2004, the Rutter Problem Behavior Questionnaire, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) were administered to parents, teachers, and children drawn from young people aged 5-17 living in private households in England, Scotland (including the Highlands and Islands) and Wales. The total of 2,471 samples of aged 13 through 17 from them were selected for this study. The selected data was analyzed using SPSS. The findings showed group differences in emotional and behavior symptoms between young people in step and non-stepfamilies: Young people from stepfamilies were more emotional and have behavioral disturbances than those from nonstepfamilies. The result also confirmed the different risk factors associated with emotional behavior problems. The study supports that professionals need to develop effective treatment and preventive approaches designed for young people in stepfamilies who may have different risk factors different from those in non-stepfamilies.

Effects of Social-Emotional Competence Program Utilizing Group Play Therapy for Young Children on Prosociality, Teacher-Child Relation and Peer Competence (집단놀이치료를 활용한 유아 사회정서적 유능감 프로그램이 친사회성, 유아-교사관계 및 또래유능감에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of the present investigation was to analyze the effects of a social-emotional competence program utilizing group play therapy in promoting young children's prosociality, teacher-child relations and peer competence. The subjects were 90 five-year-old kindergarten children. The experimental treatment was performed in 14 sessions for 7 weeks. Instruments were the Prosocial Behavior Scale for Young Children (2003), Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (2004), and Iowa Social Competence Scales (1997). Data was analyzed by ANCOVA. Results were that the experiment group showed significantly higher social competence scores than the comparison and control groups. Conclusions were that a social-emotional competence program utilizing group play therapy can be effective in enhancing young children's improvement of prosociality, teacher-child relations, and peer competence.

The Effects of Young Children and Their Mother's Variables on Peer Acceptance of the Children (유아의 또래수용도에 영향을 미치는 유아 및 어머니 변인 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of young children's temperament, emotional intelligence, social behavior and mother's personality traits, and management strategy of peer relations on peer acceptance. Subjects were 412 5-years-old children and their mothers in Busan. The children responded to the Peer Nomination Inventory to assess peer acceptance and their teachers completed the EAS(Emotionality, Activity, Sociability), to assess the emotional intelligence and social behavior of the children. Mothers completed Eysenck Personality Questionnaire for personality traits and the Parental Involvement Checklist. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and simple and multiple regression analyses. The results showed that emotional intelligence of young children had a relatively significant effect on peer acceptance, followed by personality traits of mother's extraversion, the temperament of activity, and the management strategy of mediation-supervision. In conclusion, young children and their mother's variables have a complex, rather than simple, effect on peer acceptance of the children.

A Study on Health/Illness Concepts in Hospitalized Children (입원아동이 지각한 건강과 질병개념에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the health and illness concepts of hospitalized children. The subjects were 129 hospitalized children from 3 to 12 years old in one general hospital. Data were collected through semistructured interviews by authors. This study was conducted from Jun. 1, 2000 to Dec. 31, 2000. Data were coded and categorized by content analysis. The results were as follows : 1. Perceived health concept were physical well-being, food, exercise, powerfulness, emotional stability, obeidence, cleanliness, sleep and ability of social adaptation. 2. Perceived health behavior to maintain health were food, treatment, exercise, cleanliness, obeidence, sleep, emotional stability, power-fulness and psychological stability, physical well-being. 3. Perceived prevention of illness were food, cleanliness, treatment, exercise, obedience, sleep, powerfulness, psychological stability, emotional stability, recreation and ability of social adaptation. 4. Perceived causes of illness were illness, trauma and food. 5. Perceived treatment of illness were treatment, sleep, rest, food, obedience, emotional stability, psychological stability, cleanliness, exercise and powerfulness.

The Relationship Between Multiple Intelligences and Social Adaptability of Gifted and General Students in Elementary School (초등영재와 일반학생의 다중지능과 사회적 적응행동과의 관계연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the discrete intelligences from multiple intelligence affecting the social adaptive behavior, help to understand their relation and draw educational implications to be used in supporting gifted students who have social and emotional difficulties by comparing and analyzing the relation between multiple intelligence and social adaptive behavior of gifted and general elementary students. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the levels of both multiple intelligence and social adaptive behavior were significantly higher in gifted elementary students compared to general ones on all sub-factores, indicating that the gifted elementary students are more adaptive in such constructs as self-efficacy, self-esteem, communicative skill, school life and interpersonal skill compared to general ones. Second, the association between multiple intelligence and social adaptive behavior was statistically significant both in gifted and general elementary students, indicating that the two constructs have close relation with each other. Third, for the gifted elementary students, the logical-mathematical and interpersonal intelligences had explanatory powers for self-efficacy, self-esteem, communicative skill, adaptation in school life, interpersonal skill while, for the general ones, intra- and inter-personal intelligences had explanatory powers for most domains of social adaptive behaviors, indicating that development of intelligences affecting the social adaptive behavior many have positive effects on social and emotional development of both gifted and general elementary students.

An Effect of Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy in Middle-Aged Women's on the Behavior for Preparing Their Old Age (중년여성의 자아존중감과 자기효능감이 노후생활 준비행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This article tried to find how they foster their emotion and promote their health, as examining the effect of self-esteem and self-efficacy on self-esteem and self-efficacy in middle-aged women. This paper conducted a survey for women in 40 50s who live in Daegu Metropolitan for one month from the 1st of May, 2013. As the result of analysis on primary factor, it was classified into 5factors of organizing such as the physical behavior for preparing their old age, the behavior for preparing their old age of participation in social activities, the behavior for preparing their old age of preparing death, the emotional behavior for preparing their old age and the economic behavior for preparing their old age. The self-efficacy had the positive effect on the physical, emotional and economic behavior for preparing their old age, on the other hand, the self-esteem and the self-efficacy had the positive effect on the behavior for preparing their old age of participation in social activities and of preparing death. It can be said to be more important that the middle aged-women have to make an effort to develop self-esteem and self-efficacy for improving the behavior for preparing their old age, in addition, this article suggests to develop a systematic program that may inspire a belief for the behavior that needs to get the desired result, and to require continuing interest.
