  • Airtightness standards using fan pressurization method are normally used for measuring small buildings, detached houses, and apartment units. And, it is easy to conduct airtightness measurement through this fan pressurization method. However, it can be difficult to achieve accurate measurement results for the large buildings as the height and volume of the buildings have been increased. In this paper, we studied the principle of airtightness method by fan pressurization. And, we reviewed the measurement process described in ISO 9972, EN 13829, ASTM E779, ATTMA TS 1, CAN/CGSB 149.15, and JIS A 2201. Then, we categorized the methods' items according by air flow rate (Q) and pressure difference(${\Delta}P$). As a result, we made a comparison analysis on the measurement methods appeared in each standards. And, we achieved 5 test conditions about air flow rate and pressure difference to state requirements for large buildings airtightness measurement.

  • Hydrogen generation system using aqueous $NaBH_4$ solution was developed for feeding small polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Ru was selected as a catalyst with its high activity for the hydrogen generation reaction. Hydrogen generation rate was measured with changing the solution temperature, amount of catalyst loading, $NaBH_4$ concentration, and NaOH (a base-stabilizer) concentration. A passive air-breathing 2 W PEMFC stack was operated on hydrogen generated using $20wt%\;NaBH_4+5wt%$ NaOH solution and Ru catalyst.

  • The current expanding mobile markets incessantly demands small form factor, low power consumption and high aggregate throughput for silicon-level integration such as memory to logic system. One of emerging solution for meeting this high market demand is 3D through silicon stacking (TSS) technology. Main challenges to bring 3D TSS technology to the volume production level are establishing a cost effective supply chain and building a reliable manufacturing processes. In addition, this technology inherently help increase number of IOs and shorten interconnect length. With those benefits, however, potential signal and power integrity risks are also elevated; increase in PDN inductance, channel loss on substrate, crosstalk and parasitic capacitance. This paper will report recent progress of wide IO memory to high count TSV logic device assembly development work. 28 nm node TSV test vehicles were fabricated by the foundry and assembled. Successful integration of memory wide IO chip with less than a millimeter package thickness form factor was achieved. For this successful integration, we discussed potential signal and power integrity challenges. This report demonstrated functional wide IO memory to 28 nm logic device assembly using 3D package architecture with such a thin form factor.

  • The possibility of economic exchange with North Korea is increasing, but there is still a shortage of information of cement industry, which occupies the largest proportion of North Korean construction material industry. Therefore, this study researched the status of cement production facility management using satellite photographs of 16 cement factories in North Korea, and examined the operating status of North Korean cement industry by observing smoke discharged from the chimneys of the cement production facilities. When the satellite photographs were analyzed, it was observed that the monthly stack fog ratio of the North Korean cement factories was 55% in 2016, 60% in 2017 and nearly 65% in 2018. This demonstrates that the average operating ratio has been increasing continuously. However, the operation rate of the five major cement factories reaches the limit, actual cement production is estimated to have maintained the previous level or small increased.

  • Neuronal connectivity determines brain function. Therefore, understanding the full map of brain connectivity with functional annotations is one of the most desirable but challenging tasks in science. Current methods to achieve this goal are limited by the resolution of imaging tools and the field of view. Macroscale imaging tools (e.g., magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor images, and positron emission tomography) are suitable for large-volume analysis, and the resolution of these methodologies is being improved by developing hardware and software systems. Microscale tools (e.g., serial electron microscopy and array tomography), on the other hand, are evolving to efficiently stack small volumes to expand the dimension of analysis. The advent of mesoscale tools (e.g., tissue clearing and single plane ilumination microscopy super-resolution imaging) has greatly contributed to filling in the gaps between macroscale and microscale data. To achieve anatomical maps with gene expression and neural connection tags as multimodal information hubs, much work on information analysis and processing is yet required. Once images are obtained, digitized, and cumulated, these large amounts of information should be analyzed with information processing tools. With this in mind, post-imaging processing with the aid of many advanced information processing tools (e.g., artificial intelligence-based image processing) is set to explode in the near future, and with that, anatomic problems will be transformed into informatics problems.

  • Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and methane (CH$_4$) are two major greenhouse Bases. $CO_2$is a stack gas of many industrial processes and the main product of the hydrocarbon combustion. There is recent research interest on the synthesis gas (syngas) formation from $CO_2$ and CH$_4$, via the following reaction: CH$_4$+$CO_2$longrightarrow 2H$_2$+$CO_2$, in order to reduce the greenhouse effects and to synthesize various chemicals, Preliminary experiments were conducted on the conversion of $CO_2$ and CH$_4$ to syngas by making use of a microwave plasma torch at atmospheric pressure. Conversion rates of $CO_2$and CH$_4$ to hydrogen (H$_2$), carbon monoxide (CO) and higher hydrocarbons were investigated using Gas Chromatography (GC) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The experimental data indicate that the main products were H$_2$, CO and small amount of higher hydrocarbons, such as ethylene (C$_2$H$_4$).

  • This paper proposes a modularized charge equalization converter for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) lithium-ion battery cells, in which the intra-module and the inter-module equalizer are Implemented. Considering the high voltage HEV battery pack, over approximately 300V, the proposed equalization circuit modularizes the entire $M^*N$ cells; in other words, M modules in the string and N cells in each module. With this modularization, low voltage stress on all the electronic devices, below roughly 64V, can be obtained. In the intra-module equalization, a current-fed DC/DC converter with cell selection switches is employed. By conducting these selection switches, concentrated charging of the specific under charged cells can be performed. On the other hand, the inter-module equalizer makes use of a voltage-fed DC/DC converter for bi-directional equalization. In the proposed circuit, these two converters can share the MOSFET switch so that low cost and small size can be achieved. In addition, the absence of any additional reset circuitry in the inter-module equalizer allows for further size reduction, concurrently conducting the multiple cell selection switches allows for shorter equalization time, and employing the optimal power rating design rule allows fur high power density to be obtained. Experimental results of an implemented prototype show that the proposed equalization scheme has the promised cell balancing performance for the 7Ah HEV lithium-ion battery string while maintaining low voltage stress, low cost, small size, and short equalization time.

  • This paper presents a two stage L-band power amplifier realized with a $0.32{\mu}m$ Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) CMOS technology. To overcome a low breakdown voltage limit of MOSFET, stacked-FET structures are employed, where three transistors in the first stage amplifier and four transistors in the second stage amplifier are connected in series so that their output voltage swings are added in phase. The stacked-FET structures enable the proposed amplifier to achieve a 21.5 dB small-signal gain and 15.7 dBm output 1-dB compression power at 1.9 GHz with a 122 mA DC current from a 4 V supply. The amplifier delivers a 19.7 dBm. This paper presents a two stage L-band power amplifier realized with a $0.32{\mu}m$ Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) CMOS technology. • Objectives : The purposes of this study were to evaluate exhaust ventilation systems(EVSs) and to suggest problems and improvements. Methods : For 50 small and medium-sized enterprises, we carried out evaluation of EVSs. We evaluated hoods with smoke tester and measurement of capture velocity. In addition, we used several indicators for performance evaluation designed in this study. Results : 1. Based on the smoke flow pattern and the criteria of occupational health and safety act, 67.8% of hoods were rated 'good' level at smoke test whereas 26.3% were rated 'good' level at measurement of capture velocity. 2. 29.3% of hoods, of which ratio of measured actual air flow at hood(Qah) to required ideal exhaust air flow at hood(Qih) was 1 or more, were rated 'good' level. 3. The % of EVS, of which ratio of measured actual air flow at stack(Qast) to total required ideal exhaust air flow at hood(Qith) was 1 or more, was 29.0%. 4. For the ratio of measured Qast to existing air flow at fan(Qfan), only 5% of EVSs were 1 or more and 26.0% were 0.8 or more but less than 1.0. 5. For the ratio of measured Qast to total measured actual exhaust air flow at hood(Qath), 74.0% were 0.8 or more but less than 1.0. 6. The percentage of EVS, of which ratio of total measured Qath to existing Qfan was 0.8 or more, was 19.0%. 7. The percentage of EVS, of which ratio of total measured Qath to total required ideal exhaust Qith was 1 or more, was 26.0%. 8. For the comprehensive evaluation indicators designed in this study, 29.0% were 0.8 or more. Conclusions : We found that few exhaust local ventilations at small and medium-sized enterprises were rated 'good' level and that most exhaust local ventilations had 'poor' design and installation. Therefore, relevant professional manpower and enterprises have to construct exhaust local ventilation where it is needed, and technical guidance and economic support are needed to improve 'poor' exhaust local ventilation after self-evaluation.

  • Dynamic Software Update(DSU) is a technique, which updates a new version of the software to a running process without stopping. Many DSU systems that update C application programs are introduced. However, these DSU systems differ in implementation method or in main features. In this paper, we propose a new DSU system that can solve some disadvantages of existing DSU systems. DSU system presented in this paper splits existing program to code, global data and local data and then updates each part of the program considering the characteristics of the respective parts. The proposed system in this paper is implemented and tested on Linux. Also, we compared our DSU system with other DSU systems and we could find some strength of our DSU system. First, the code memory usage of our DSU system can be efficient since our system does not need to maintain code of an old version. Second, the global data memory waste is small because our system does not need to allocate the global data again which is not modified in the new version. Finally, we restore local data of old version in stack area of the new version using stack reconstruction technique. This paper is meaningful since we proposed a new DSU method and we implemented a full DSU system using the method.
