Although infrastructure cost comprises the great proportion of residential development cost, all of it tends to be borne by land developers which develop large area. This brings about free-riding by adjacent small development or built-up area, followed by the equity problem in terms of infrastructure development cost sharing and the privatization of development gain. This study aims to establish the method to analyze free-riding on the transportation infrastructure(roads) and investigate empirically how much the free-riding occurs. It sets several development scenarios to calculate the part generated by Bucheon Sangdong district, the case area of this study, of all the traffic flow on the roads. The Network analysis is used to estimate the proportion, by development scenarios, of traffic flow, travel time, and travel cost. As a result, the developer of Bucheon Sangdong district is responsible for 83% of the construction cost of selected roads. The methodology and empirical result of this study would contribute to determine who are liable for the infrastructure facilitation and to estimate how much of the cost the obligators have to share.
In South Korea, 850 standard watersheds and 7,807 KRF catchment areas have been used as basic maps for water resources policy establishment, however it becomes necessary to set up new standard maps with a more appropriate scale for the integrated managements of surface water-groundwater as well as water quantity-quality in the era of integrated water management. Since groundwater has a slow flow velocity and also has 3-D flow properties compared to surface water, the sub-catchment size is more effective than the regional watershed for the evaluation of surface water-groundwater interaction. The KRF catchment area, which has averagely a smaller area than the standard watershed, is similar to the sub-catchment area that generally includes the first-order or second-order tributaries. Some KRF catchment areas, which are based on the surface reach, are too small or large in a wide plain or high mountain area. Therefore, it is necessary to revise the existing KRF area if being used as a unit area for integrated management of surface-water and groundwater. A unit watershed with a KRF area of about 5 to 15 ㎢ can be effective as a basic unit for water management of local government considering a tributary composition and the location of groundwater wells, and as well it can be used as a basic tool for water demand-supply evaluation, hydrological observation system establishment, judgment of groundwater permission through a total quantity management system, pollution assessment, and prioritizing water policy, and etc.
In this study, CN value was estimated by using detailed soil map and land cover characteristic against upper basin of Kumho watermark located on the upper basin of Kumho river and the hydrologic morphological characteristic factors were extracted from the basin by using the DEM document. Also the runoff analysis was conducted by the WMS model in order to study how the assumed CN value affects the runoff characteristic. First of all, as a result of studying the soil type in this study area, mostly D type soil was Identified by the application of the 1987 classification criteria. However, by that in 1995, B type soil and C type soil were distributed more widely in that area. When CN value was classified by the 1995 classification criteria, it was estimated lower than in 1987, as a result of comparing the estimated CNs by those standars. Also it was assumed that CN value was underestimated when the plan for Geum-ho river maintenance was drawn up. As a result of the analysis of runoff characteristic, the pattern of generation of the classification criteria of soil groups appeared to be similar, but in the case of the application of the classification criteria in 1995, the peak rate of runoff was found to be smaller on the whole than in the case of the application of the classification criteria in 1987. Also when the statistical data such as the prediction errors, the mean squared errors, the coefficient of determination and other data emerging from the analysis, was looked over in total, it seemed appropriate to apply the 1995 classification criteria when hydrological soil classification group was applied. As the result of this study, however, the difference of the result of the statistical dat was somewhat small. In future study, it is necessary to follow up evidence about soil application On many more watersheds and in heavy rain.

The recent earthquake in Korea caused large and small damages to many school building. School building is an important building that is used as a shelter in the event of disaster. Among the seismic retrofit methods, the internal steel braced frame type method is used for its relatively easy construction and excellent performance. In this study, the maximum shear force and displacement were compared and examined by applying the brace frame to existing concrete school buildings. As a result, we verified the adequacy of the analytical model and compared and examined the effect of brace-height ratio on the span of the existing school buildings. The adequacy of the maximum shear force and displacement relationship can be confirmed in the model with a length of 0.3. In addition, seismic frame was applied to the actual non-seismic reinforced concrete school building, and the seismic performance was evaluated by nonlinear static analysis(Push-over analysis) according to the ratio of brace-height. As a result, the increase of the brace-height according to the brace-height ratio has the effect of increasing the maximum shear force and maximum load at the performance point. But the collapse of the braced frame due to the increase in the lateral stiffness occurred, indicating that seismic retrofit according to the proper brace-height is necessary. Therefore, in the seismic retrofit design of brace frame of existing school building, it is necessary to select the proper brace-height after retrofit analysis according to the brace-height ratio.

In order to predict the free surface signature of turbulent ship wakes two things are essential; a basic understanding of the mechanism of turbulent vortical flow/free surface interactions and a mathematical model to accurately predict the signature. The goal of the study described here is both to supplement experimental work to obtain basic understanding, as well as to condense this understanding in a model(or models) that captures the essential phenomena and thus allows predictions. To do so we followed two main paths guided by experimental observations. One is full simulations of the flow using the clavier-Stokes equations. The other is a vortex modeling, where the vortical structures of the flows are approximated by idealized structures, an the interaction assumed to be essentially inviscid. These approaches complement each other. Full simulations are only applicable to small scale phenomena, where the system is simple, and the Reynolds number is low. The vortex modeling, on the other hand, cannot represent essentially viscous aspects of the problem such as the effect of contamination gradient. Obviously, the modeling is what may eventually lead to a prediction method; the full simulations-too limited to mimic all but the simplest circumstances-are to aid and support the construction of realistic models. We address two-dimensional aspects of the vortex/free surface interaction first. Secondly we obtain some basic understanding of the interaction process through an experiment and then talk about several three-dimensional problems hoping to develop a successful prediction model.

The data on the pile load tests performed on 35 large drilled shafts are analyzed to investigate the load-settlement characteristics of large drilled shafts embedded in bed rocks. Generally, the settlement of large drilled shafts embedded in bed rocks is too small to determine the ultimated load with application of the regulation in design code for either the total settlement or the residual settlement. Therefore, to determine the yield load of large drilled shafts embedded in bed rocks, p(load)-logS (settlement) curve method, which has been proposed originally for the driven pile, was applied to the investigation on the data of the pile load tests. This technique shows that the yield load can be determined accurately and easily rather than other conventional techniques such as P-S, logp-logS, S-logt, and P-S curve methods. An empirical equation is proposed to represent the relationship between pile load and settlement before the yield loading condition. And the settlement of piles was related with the depth embedded in rock as well as rock properties. Based on the investigation on the data of pile load tests, the resonable regulations f3r both the total settlement and the residual settlement are proposed to determine the yield load of large drilled shafts embedded in bed rocks.

In recent years, the development of complex urban areas has become saturated and much attention has been focused on the development of underground space, and deep excavation is frequently performed in order to increase the utilization of underground space due to the enlargement of buildings and the high rise of buildings. Therefore, in this study, we tried to understand the behavior of the braced wall and the behavior of the tunnel adjacent to the wall according to the stiffness of the wall and the distance between the tunnel and wall. As a result of the study, the deformation of the braced wall tended to decrease with increasing the stiffness of the wall, and the axial force acting on the struts was also different according to the stiffness of braced wall. When the stiffness of the braced wall is small (2 mm), the point at which the axial force of the braces maximizes is near 0.3H of the wall. When the stiffness of the braced wall is large (5 mm), the axial force is maximum at around 0.7H of the wall. Also, the tunnel convergence occurred more clearly when the separation distance from the braced wall was closer, the stiffness of the wall was smaller, and the tunnel convergence was concentrated to the lower right part. The ground settlement due to the excavation of the ground tended to decrease as the distance between tunnel and braced wall was closer to that of the tunnel, which is considered to be influenced by the stiffness of the tunnel.

In the previous studies on co-constructing scientific models, students have had various difficulties in constructing their models. As an alternative to compensate for these problems, we introduced smart devices in the modeling process and examined its roles. 60 students from two classes in the fifth grade of an elementary school in Seoul had classes to make up the solar system model in a small group using the smart devices and we examined the roles of smart devices in their classes. The result is as follows; First, students were able to generate their scientific model through various functions of smart devices throughout the modeling process. In particular, smart devices provide highly descriptive and authoritative information that meets the needs of students as well as the opportunity to observe the planets from various perspectives. Moreover, they were not only able to express their models easily as they wanted to express them, but also were able to receive feedbacks from various agents. In order for these smart devices to function properly in the co-construction of scientific models, it is necessary to improve the related environment as well as students' technological literacy.

An electromagnetic type shock wave generator suitable for extracorporeal shock wave therapy has been constructed by employing a solenoid coil. The Property of the shock waves produced by the shock wave generator was evaluated using a needle hydrophone. It was shown that, as the capacitor discharging voltage increased from 8 to 18 kV, the Positive Peak Pressure (P+) of the shock wave increased non-linearly from 10 to 77 Wa. In contrast. the negative peak Pressure (f) varied between -3.2 and -6.8 MPa. had its absolute maximum of -6.9 ma at 14 kV The peak amplitudes P+ measured repeatedly under the same voltage setting varied within $5\;\%$ from mean values and this is very small compared to about $50\;\%$ for electrohydraulic type shock wave generators. It could be observed, from the hydrophone signal recorded over 1 ms. several sequential acoustic impulses representing bubble collapses. namely. acoustic cavitation. induced by the shock wave. A technique based on wavelet transformation was used to accurately measure the time delay between the 1st and 2nd collapse known to be closely related to the shock strength. It was observed that the measured time delay increased almost linearly from 120 to $700\;{\mu}s$ with the shock wave Pressure P+ increasing from 10 to 77 MPa.
The rainfall pattern analysis on time distribution characteristics of rainfall rates in important in determination of design flow for hydraulic structures, particularly in urban area drainage network system design. The historical data from about 400 storm samples during 31 years in Seoul have been used to investigate the time distribution of 5-minute rainfall in the warm season. Time distribution relations have been deveolped for heavy stroms over 20mm in total rainfall and represented by relation percentage of total storm rainfall to percentage of total storm time and grouping the data according to the quartile in which rainfall was heaviest. And also time distribution presented in probability terms to provide quantitative information on inter-strom variability. The resulted time distribution relations are applicable to construction of rainfall hyetograph of design storm for determination of design flow hydrograph and identification of rainfall pattern at given watershed area. They can be used in conjuction with informations on spatstorm models for hydrologic applications. It was found that second-quartile storms occurred most frequently and fourth-quartile storms most infrequently. The time distribution characteristics resulted in this study have been presented in graphic forms such as time distribution curves with probability in cumulative percent of storm-time and precipitation, and selected histograms for first, second, third, and fourth quartile stroms.
