  • Atmospheric particulate matters (A. P. M. ) were collected on quartz-fiber filters from March 1985 to May 1986, using the Andersen high-volume air sampler and contents of six heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb Ni) in the A. P. M. were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. These heavy metals were divided into the three groups with respect to their particle size distribution. Fe and Mn were mainly associated with coarse particles (diameter > 2.0 $\mu$m), but Pb and Ni were related fine particles (diameter < 2.0 $\mu$m). Cu and Zn had mized size distributions in both of them. In the seasonal variation of heavy metals, the contents of Fe and Mn in spring and Ni and Pb in winter were higher than any other season. There were high mutual correlation between Fe and Mn coarse particles, and between Pb and Ni in fine particles.

  • Recently, inkjet technology has emerged as one of the most powerful tools for patterning electronics devices, such as large area display applications, RFID, PCB patterning, etc. By using the Inkjet technology, the droplet speed as well as the size can be controlled precisely. In this paper, the relationship between waveform and droplet size will be investigated by means of experiment. Also the relationship between inkjet speed and droplet size will be discussed. It was shown from experimental results that ink droplet size from the nozzle diameter of $50{\mu}m$ can be varied from 37 to $58{\mu}m$ by modifying the inkjet waveform when the speed of the droplet is 1m/sec. Finally, experimental results indicate that small drops are more difficult to generate than large drops since the jetting conditions for making small drops are sensitively affected by the dwell time variation.

  • This work was carried out in order to investigate the effect of grain size on martensitic transformation temperature and morphology of Fe-27%Ni-0.27%C alloy. The martensitic transformation temperature was raised with increasing the austenitizing temperature within the range from $750^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$, owing to the grain growth, vacancy concentration. It was observed that the larger was the austenite grain, the higher was the martensitic transformation temperature. The influence of the austenite grain size was similar to that of the austenitizing temperature. The morphology of martensite in Fe-27%Ni-0.27%C alloy changed from lath to lenticular with the variation of grain size. From the above results, it was concluded that the martensitic transformation temperature and morphology was mainly dependent upon the austenite grain size.

  • High internal phase emulsions are highly concentrated emulsion systems consisting of a large volume of dispersed phase above 0.74. The rheological properties of high internal phase water-in-oil emulsions were measured conducting steady shear, oscillatory shear and creep/recovery experiments. It was found that the yield stress is inversely proportional to the drop size with the exponent of values between 1 and 2. Since the oil phase contains monomeric species, microcellular foams can easily be prepared from high internal phase emulsions. In this study, the microcellular foams combining a couple of thickeners into the conventional formulation of styrene and water system were investigated to understand the effect of viscosity ratio on cell size. Cell size variation on thickener concentration could be explained by a dimensional analysis between the capillary number and the viscosity ratio. Compression properties of foam are important end use properties in many practical applications. Crush strength and Young's modulus of microcellular foams polymerized from high internal phase emulsions were measured and compared from compression tests. Of the foams tested in this study, the foam prepared from the organoclay having reactive group as an oil phase thickener showed outstanding compression properties.

  • This paper investigates effect of gasoline price liberalization on price elasticity of gasoline demand. By using a model where a consumer optimizes her gasoline consumption and number of visits to gas station, we derive price elasticity of gasoline demand and its response to variation of size and frequency in price changes. It shows that price elasticity is decreased with increase in the size and frequency when the price rises. Since price liberalization increases the frequency but reduces the size, the effect of the liberalization on the price elasticity may not be determined. However, price liberalization can make the elasticity higher when the size reduction effect exceeds the frequency increase effect, which is consistent with empirical evidence provided by existing studies.

  • In previous studies, Convex cyclone are proposed to reduce pressure loss which are design cyclone wall with a single continuous curve. Studies about a prediction model for pressure loss and cut-size has focused on conventional cylinder-on-con cyclone. Therefore, the models do not perform well for uncommon design. In this study, a predict model for pressure loss and cut-size depend on cyclone wall curvature are developed. The tangential velocity below vortex-finder is obtained with consideration about friction area and momentum loss on the cyclone wall, and with this the variation of vortex-core and core velocity is obtained. Pressure loss is predicted using a Rankine vortex hypothesis. The prediction results are well agreed with experiments and CFD results.

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the food and feeding habits of Oreochromis niloticus in Lake Shala to manage this species in this high Soda Lake. Stomachs of 226 fish (65.9%) had different food items, while those of 117 fish (34.1%) were empty. Phytoplankton was the dominant food categories occurring in 90.3% of the stomachs estimated and contributed 75.5% of the total volume. Bacillariophyceae (Nitzschia, Anomoeoneis, Navicula and Melosira) were identified as the most desired phytoplankton item. The prey items of O. niloticus differed among size classes (ANOVA, p < 0.05). The main prey items were zooplankton by the smaller-size class, and phytoplankton in fish of the larger-size class. Seasonal variation in the diet composition was evident (t-test, p < 0.05) and zooplankton, chironomids, nematodes, fish scales and detritus were important during the wet season, while phytoplankton predominates during the dry season. This study concludes that O. niloticus had a phytoplanktivores feeding mainly on phytoplankton and their feeding habits influenced by season and fish size in Lake Shala.

  • Atmospheric particulate matter (A. P. M.) was collected and size-fractionated by an Andersen high-volume air sampler over 15 month period from Jan. 1985 to Feb. 1986 in Seoul. The concentration of chloride, nitrate and sulfate were extracted in an ultrasonic bath and were analyzed by ion chromatography. The annual arithmetical mean of A. P. M. was 128.54 $\mug/m^3$. The concentration of anions were 2.88 $\mug/m^3$ for chloride, 3.86$\mug/m^3$ for nitrate, and 25.44$\mug/m^3$ for sulfate. The content of A. P. M. was lowest in the particle size range 1.1 $\sim 3.3\mum$ and increased as the particle size increased or decreased. And the anions exhibited a seasonal variation in the isize distribution. The contents of anions were higher in winter than summer. Ther ratio of fine particles to the total particles defined by F/T for chloride, nitrate and sulfate. The F\ulcornerT of these anion generally decrease with increasing air temperature. This tendency was prevalent in the chloride and nitrate.
