Sound based machine fault diagnosis is the process consisting of detecting automatically the damages that affect the machines by analyzing the sounds they produce during their operating time. The collected sounds being inevitably corrupted by random disturbance, the most important part of the diagnosis consists of discovering the hidden elements inside the data that can reveal the faulty patterns. This paper presents a novel feature extraction methodology that combines various digital signal processing and pattern recognition methods for the analysis of the sounds produced by the drills. Using the Fourier analysis, the magnitude spectrum of the sounds are extracted, converted into two-dimensional vectors and uniformly normalized in such a way that they can be represented as 8-bit grayscale images. Histogram equalization is then performed over the obtained images in order to adjust their very poor contrast. The obtained contrast enhanced images will be used as the features of our diagnosis system. Finally, principal component analysis is performed over the image features for reducing their dimensions and a nonlinear classifier is adopted to produce the final response. Unlike the conventional features, the results demonstrate that the proposed feature extraction method manages to capture the hidden health patterns of the sound.
We report on the design of a low-noise 40 channel SQUID system for biomagnetism. We used low-noise SQUID sensor with the pickup coil integrated on the same wafer as the SQUID. The SQUID electronics were simplified by increasing the voltage output of the SQUID. The SQUID insert was designed to have low thermal load, minimizing the liquid helium loss. The digital signal processing provides versatile analysis tools and the software is based on the object-oriented programming. For the effective localization of the source location, solutions of the inverse problems based on the lead-field and the simulated anneal ins were studied.

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is a safety assistant system to prevent the serious accident due to the damaged tire by the abnormal tire pressure. It is designed to transmit the measured data for pressure and temperature of tires from the sensor unit installed in each tire to signal processing unit installed in a vehicle. Based on the received information, a driver monitors the condition of tires using a display device, to maintain the optimum travelling condition. Since TPMS should employ the wireless communication technique, it may suffer from various interferences from external electrical or electronics devices. In order to suppress them, the beamforming techniques such as switching, minimum-variance distortionless-response (MVDR), and generalized sidelobe canceler (GSC) have been considered for TPMS. In this paper, we calculate computational complexities of three beamformers and suggest mathematical basis to compare their performance of the complexity.
We present a cost-effective dual polarization quadrature phase-shift coherent receiver module using a silica planar lightwave circuit (PLC) hybrid assembly. Two polarization beam splitters and two $90^{\circ}$ optical hybrids are monolithically integrated in one silica PLC chip with an index contrast of $2%-{\Delta}$. Two four-channel spot-size converter integrated waveguide-photodetector (PD) arrays are bonded on PD carriers for transverse-electric/transverse-magnetic polarization, and butt-coupled to a polished facet of the PLC using a simple chip-to-chip bonding method. Instead of a ceramic sub-mount, a low-cost printed circuit board is applied in the module. A stepped CuW block is used to dissipate the heat generated from trans-impedance amplifiers and to vertically align RF transmission lines. The fabricated coherent receiver shows a 3-dB bandwidth of 26 GHz and a common mode rejection ratio of 16 dB at 22 GHz for a local oscillator optical input. A bit error rate of $8.3{\times}10^{-11}$ is achieved at a 112-Gbps back-to-back transmission with off-line digital signal processing.
In current semiconductor manufacturing, as the feature size of integrated circuit (IC) devices continuously shrinks, detecting endpoint in plasma etching process is more difficult than before. For endpoint detection, various kinds of sensors are installed in semiconductor manufacturing equipments, and sensor data are gathered with predefined sampling rate. Generally, detecting endpoint is performed using OES data of by-product. In this study, OES data of both by-product and etchant gas are used to improve reliability of endpoint detection. For the OES data pre-processing, a combination of Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA),are used. Polynomial Regression and Expanded Hidden Markov model (eHMM) technique are applied to pre-processed OES data to detect endpoint.
According to a survey, more than 50% of the elders fall which is the most frequent daily safety accident of the elders takes place at home. Furthermore, the elders fall is anticipated to increase as more elderly people are expected to live alone since, 67.1% of the elders of 65 or more do not hope to live with their children. This research aims to verify the fall by measuring and analyzing the floor vibration, and the hardware system was also designed was Piezo Film Sensor, Op-Amp, and DAQ. The system is consists of signal processing part for measuring floor vibration and alarm part for identifying the consciousness of the user when the fall occurs. The fall detection by vibration signals verified by k-Nearest Neighbor verification, and the results showed the error rate of 3.8%.
A real-time surveillance system of the inshore fishing ground was constructed to identify and detect discrete targets, such as illegal fishing vessels. This paper describes measurements made with a combination of sensors, such as radar, CCTV camera, and GPS receivers, for monitoring the fishing activity of small vessels within the fishing limit zones of the inshore waters. The CCTV camera system was used to confirm detection and to classify the type of target. The location of legal vessels distributed in coastal waters was acquired from each GPS system of ships connected to commercial satellite communication network. The surveillance system was networked via LAN to one host PC with the use of electronic navigational charts (ENC) and a radar link. Radar Target Extractor (RTX) for radar signal processing can be remotely accessed and controlled on existing PC via the internet, from anywhere, at any time. Results are presented that demonstrate the effectiveness of the newly constructed fisheries monitoring system for conducting continuous surveillance of illegal fishing vessels in the inshore fishing ground. The identification of illegal fishing vessels was achieved by comparing radar positions of illegal fishing vessels exceeding the warning limits in the surveillance area with GPS position reports transmitted from legal fishing vessels, and the illegal fishing vessels were marked with red symbols on the ENC screen of a PC. The methods to track the activities of all vessels intruding or leaving the fishing limit zones also were discussed.
This paper develops a scheme of resource management for guaranteeing QoS of realtime traffic in wireless mobile internet environments Mobile terminal has significant impact on the QoS originating mobility provided to a real-time application. The currently proposed MRSVP is not clear the boundary of resource reservation tregion and also can give rise to signal overhead to maintain sessions. To solve above problem, we propose the new reservation protocol, mobile cluster based H-MRSVP to combine MRSVP with moving cluster concept. In this paper, we analytically design our model for guaranteeing the QoS of realtime traffic and compare the three schemes: guard channel allocation schemes, DCA and our model. The performance measures are the probabilities of new call blocking, handoff dropping, resource utilization and service completion versus the system offered Erlang load. Consequently, Simulation indicate our model is more flexible than DCA in a view pint of channel utilization and gains the advantage over guard channel scheme with respects to the mobility.

Medical ultrasound systems have been used since 1950s, and are now widely used in most hospitals as indispensable diagnostic imaging systems. Since array probe was introduced in 1970s, beamforming technology using electronic signal processing has been adopted to the medical ultrasound system, and has been improved. Beamforming is a important technology which defines the resolution of the ultrasound system. In this paper, the technologies are introduced from basic beamforming principles to current trend. They include principles of beamforming using array probe, basic theory, and practical implementation, and recent topics of synthetic aperture imaging, adaptive beamforming, 2-dimensional beamforming using 2-dimensional array are also introduced. These various technologies will improve system performances continuously by merging innovatively with various technologies in other fields.
In this paper, we have studied the images which have been reconstructed by using combination of images acquired by the variation of operating frequency. When inner images have been reconstructed, they have been superposed by the surface state effect. In this case, the images of the phase object can be enhanced by the contrast of inner images. In this experiment, there are two kinds of specimens, one is a reference block haying 1/4T, 1/2T, 3/4T side drilled holes as main run piping material 111 the steam generator in NPP(Neuclear Power Plant)s and the another is a part of a hemisphere type specimen having about 1-2㎜ distance gap. It has been shown that the two results of defect shapes have better than before in this processing and phase contrast grow about twice. And we have constructed the acoustic microscope by using a quadrature detector that enables to acquire the amplitude and phase of the reflected signal simultaneously Further more ore have studied the reconstruction method of the amplitude and phase images and the enhancement method of the defect images contrast.
