) and those in the 20-0time-per-diem plot (12.27kg/$cm^2$
) and the 30-time-per-diem one (20.05kg/$cm^2$
) small values than that of the control plot. Especially, the growth of roots and spikes was extremely repressed. The number of leaves, scapes and lateral buds tend to increase in the tread-pressure of 20 times/day (12.27kg/$cm^2$
) and 30 times/day (20.05kg/$cm^2$
). The water contents of roots along the increase of tread-pressure to continuosly decreased. By the increase of tread-pressure, T/R ratio and C/F ratio their group decreased. The plant growth (7.33kg/$cm^2$
) in the 10-time-per-diem plot increased more than that in the control one is regarded as the effect of tread-pressure affection on the road-side distribution of this plant.
This paper presents an experimental study on the unsteady flow phenomena such as leakage flow and rotating stall which have influences on the performance and stability of an axial flow fan. For this study, unsteady pressure were measured using high frequency pressure transducers mounted on the easing wall of rotor passage and analyzed by Double Phase-Locked Averaging Technique. As the flow rate was reduced to near stall point, the pressure difference between the pressure and the suction side of the blade was increased especially new the leading edge and the lowest pressure zone of suction side was gradually developed. From the result of unsteady pressure field on the casing wall, one period of rotating stall was divided into three zones and the flow characteristics on each zone were described in detail.
Purpose: This study examined the effects of the weight-bearing pattern and calcaneal taping on the heel width and plantar pressure in standing. Methods: Fifteen healthy subjects with normal feet participated in this study. The heel width was measured using a digital caliper, and a pedoscan was used to measure the plantar pressure of the rear foot while standing. The participants were instructed to stand in three weight-bearing patterns (anterior, middle, and posterior weight bearing) before and after calcaneal taping. The heel width and plantar pressure were measured three times before and three times after calcaneal taping, with the three weight-bearing patterns applied in random order. A 2 (non-taping vs. taping) × 3 (anterior, middle, posterior weight bearing) two-way repeated ANOVA with a Bonferroni post hoc correction was used to assess the differences in heel width and plantar pressure. Results: The results revealed a significant main effect of the weight-bearing pattern (p<.01), but not of calcaneal taping (p>.05). Greater weight bearing applied to the heel resulted in a significantly increased heel width and planter pressure of the rear foot (p<.01). Conclusion: In standing, a posterior weight-bearing pattern increases the heel width due to side-to-side shifting of the plantar heel pad, which increases the heel plantar pressure. Therefore, to prevent high stress on the heel pad and plantar heel pain, it is important to refrain from posterior weight bearing while standing during the activities of daily living.

Performance analysis has been carried out on a high side scroll compressor that had a fixed scroll equipped with a circular oil groove on its thrust surface. Oil was supplied to the oil groove through an intermittent opening from a high pressure oil reservoir formed inside the orbiting scroll hub. Oil in the groove was then delivered to both suction and back pressure chambers by pressure differentials and viscous pumping action of the orbiting scroll base plate. Mathematical modeling of this oil groove system was incorporated into a main compressor performance simulation program for an optimum oil groove design. The study findings were as follows. Pressure in the oil groove can be controlled by changing its configuration and the oil passage area. With an enlarged oil passage, the pressure in the oil groove heightens due to an increased flow rate, but the pressure elevation in the back pressure chamber is small, resulting in reduced friction loss at the thrust surface between the two scrolls. On the other hand, by increasing the oil passage area, the oil content in the refrigerant flow increases. Considering all these factors, the energy efficiency ratio could be improved by about 3.6% under the ARI condition by an optimal oil groove design.
Purpose: This study was conducted to verify the effect of applying a pressure biofeedback unit on walking ability and knee joint function while performing knee joint extensor strengthening exercises using resistance exercise equipment in total knee replacement (TKR) patients. Methods: This study was conducted on twelve patients receiving rehabilitation treatment after being admitted to a rehabilitation hospital post-TKR. Of these, six were allocated to a feedback group with a pressure biofeedback unit, and the other 6 were allocated to a control group without a pressure biofeedback unit. The subjects performed an exercise program for 45 minutes per session, five times a week, for two weeks. Walking ability and knee joint function were evaluated and analyzed before and after exercise. Results: The feedback group showed significantly better improvements in walking speed, gait cycle, step length on the non-operation side, time on the foot on the operation side, K-WOMAC stiffness, and K-WOMAC function than the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: When strengthening the knee joint extensor muscles using resistance exercise equipment in TKR patients, the provision of a pressure biofeedback unit was found to improve walking ability and knee joint function by inducing concentric-eccentric contraction of the knee joint extensor muscles. Therefore, the study shows that exercise based on the provision of a pressure biofeedback unit should be considered when strengthening knee joint extensor muscles to improve the walking ability and knee joint function of TKR patients in clinical practice.

Buried box culverts are crucial elements of transportation infrastructure. However, their behavior under foundation loads is not well understood, indicating a significant gap in existing research. This study aims to bridge this gap by conducting a detailed numerical analysis using the Finite Element Method and Abaqus software. The research evaluates the behavior of buried box culverts by examining their interaction with surrounding soil and the pressures from surface foundation loads. Key variables such as embedment depth, culvert wall thickness, concrete material properties, foundation pressure, foundation width, soil elastic modulus, and friction angle are altered to understand their combined effects on structural response. The methodology employs a validated 2D numerical model under plane strain conditions. Parametric studies highlight the critical role of culvert depth (H) in influencing earth pressure and bending moments. Foundation pressure and width demonstrate complex interdependencies affecting culvert behavior. Variations in culvert materials' elastic modulus show minimal impact. It was found that the lower wall of the buried culvert experiences higher average pressure compared to the other two walls, due to the combined effects of the culvert's weight and down drag forces on the side walls. Furthermore, while the pressure distribution on the top and bottom walls is parabolic, the pressure on the side walls follows a different pattern, differing from that of the other two walls.
In the past decades there has been a growth of interest in the use of stellate ganglion block (SGB) as part of the diagnosis and therapy for the disease of the head, neck and upper extremities. For the evaluation of changes in hemodynamics and temperature of the affected extremity after the SGB, unilateral SGB (either right or left) was performed by local injection of 10 ml of 1% lidocaine without epinephrine in 45 patients (right side SGB: 25, left side SGB: 20) with various diseases. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate and skin temperature of the ipsilateral hand were studied before and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes after the block. The results were as follows: 1) Changes of blood pressure: Systolic and distolic blood pressure after either right or left side SGB showed no statistically significant change. 2) Changes of pulse rate: While the left side SGB showed a mild decrease without statistical significance, the right side SGB showed a statistically significant decrease at 30 and 60 minutes after the block (p<0.05). 3) Changes of skin temperature of the blocked hand: Either side SGB produced a gradual increase in temperature with time and showed statistical significance from 10 minutes in the left side block (p<0.01), and a from 10 minutes after the block in the right side (p<0.01). Both sides SGB showed a maximal increase at 30 minutes after the block and a small decrease at 60 minutes after the block compared to the 30 minutes value. 4) Despite the successful SGB. 4 of 45 patients failed to produce a significant increase in skin temperature on the affected upper extremity. In conclusion, unilateral SGB with 1% lidocaine at the 6th cervical vertebral level is a safe method for use on an outpatient basis, and an increase in skin temperature in the affected upper extremity is necessary to confirm the successful therapeutic effect on disease of the upper extremity.
Pressurized membrane module systems, including hollow fiber type of Microfiltration (MF) and Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes are being increasingly used in drinking water treatment due to their high removal efficiency of pathogen. However, when fibers are damaged in pressurized membrane system, the pathogen will be able to penetrate the membrane. Therefore, it is essential to guarantee the regulatory requirements for water quality by an effective on-line or off-line condition integrity monitoring methods. Recently, pressure decay test (PDT) which is one of membrane integrity tests has been reflected to drinking water treatment plants using pressurized membrane module. In this paper, three different method were used to perform PDT and three different sensitivity values were analyzed through experiments. Three types of direct integrity test methods were applied to pressure feed side, filtrate side and bidirectional pressure decay test. The results of these experiments show that the sensitivity was increasing when the volume of pressurized gas was decreasing. The sensitivity is inversely proportional to the gas volume. Furthermore, it is desirable to increase pressure difference between feed side and permeate side in order to achieve higher sensitivity in the PDT by membrane damage.
For the purpose of investigating the response of the periodontal tissue in relation to the experimental tooth movement, the rats were inhibited from collagen formation by adminstration of aminoacetonitrile. Findings were as follows: 1) In experimental group, the principal fibers of the periodontal ligament came to run parallel along the alveolar bone or root surface on the pressure side, while the decrease in density, irregular arrangement, and partial loss of principal fibers were observed on the tension side. 2) Sharpey's fibers at the alveolar bone decreased in number, and as the aminoacetonitrile administration continued, the capability of matrix formation decreased on the tension side, the narrowing of the alveolar septum and poor-bony trabeculation appeared on the pressure side. 3) In cementum, Sharpey's fibers were distributed irregularly. The formation of acellura cementum was decreased on the tension side, while the formative capability of cellular cementum was increased. 4) The degree of staining by Herovici technique decreased in the periodontal membrane. By PAS and ninhydrine -Schiff reaction it was appeared weakly positive in the region where the Sharpey's fibers existed.

The cement injection technology on the purpose of ground reinforcement and cut-off has been used in construction sites until now. However, recently it is applied to prevent leakage of underground structure. In this study, applicability of the back side waterproof grouting method was verified through performing field model tests and reviewing case histories. From the results of this study, injection shape of the back side waterproof grouting method was appeared to be root type, and waterproof effect by injection of cement grout material was excellent because grout material infiltrated into boundary between wall of structure and back side ground to be waterproof layer. Components influencing infiltration of injection material are type of soil and degree of compaction. For effective injection, injection pressure has to vary gradually from high pressure to low pessure and small quantity of injection material has to be injected for long times. Also, spacing of injection hole must be designed considering condition of back side ground, injection area, W/C ratio, the number of injection and injection pattern properly.
