  • The web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. This Paper proposes an active web server which can facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such a goal, the active web server manages dependency relationships between shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefullness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System (ODBMS) called OBJECTSTORE using the C++ programming language.

  • The web-based groupware systems hold many possibilities for system developers and users. Especially, web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. However, current web technologies have limitations in supporting this, largely because the existing Hypertext Transfer Protocol(HTTP) is unidirectional and does not allow web servers to send messages to their web browsers without first receiving requests from them. This paper proposes an active web server that can overcome such limitations and facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such goals, the active web server manages dependency relationships beween shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefulness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System(0DBMS) called OBJECTSTERE using the C++ programming language.

  • Recently firms which have been using traditional VAN-EDI are adapting Web-EDI at very rapid pace. Based on the Internet, Web-EDI is easier to install, is cheaper and more accessible than VAN-EDI. Web-EDI establishes an electronic hierarchy as a type of Inter-Organization Information System. An electronic hierarchy connects two legally separate firms in an electronically mediated relationship. The primary reasons for establishing an electronic hierarchy is to improve the flow of materials and information between firms. This paper suggests two hypotheses that describe the possible impact of Web-EDI on firms in the Web-EDI network, and empirically tests them using data from a case study based on a discount store. The result is as follows. First, the more a firm utilizes information shared through Web-EDI, the higher the inventory turns. Second, a higher level of information sharing does not necessarily increase the inventory turns of Web-EDI adopters who are coerced to implement the electronic networks by the champion. These findings imply that the operational performance of Web-EDI adopters can be improved only when the firms intensively utilize the information shared through Web-EDI for their business processes.

  • Since most of CSCW(Computer-Supported Cooperative Work) systems have been developed for particular computing platforms, they are usable only within the specific organizations supporting those particular platforms. Recently, according to the rapid growth and continuing success of the World-Wide Web(WWW or Web) which offers a globally accessible platform-independent infrastructure, many CSCW systems has been constructed and is being developed on the basis of the Web. As one of such CSCW systems, in this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the CoSpace system. The CoSpace system provides shared workspaces, which enable members of a work group easily share information for collaborative work through their Web Browsers. The shared workspaces support information sharing and management between users, and also support event monitoring and synchronization between collaborative works.

  • A shared work platform is needed to legitimately activate shared works. To facilitate the use of copyrighted works by streamlining licensing procedures and by expressing and distributing the scope of use by authors themselves. In this study, five interface areas and fifteen evaluation items were selected to analyze the interface types and characteristics of the Korean shared work platform, and analyzed based on the national operating platform. We will analyze and compare the situation of the web interface of the Korean shared works by analyzing the types and characteristics of the web interface of the public opera platform, the Gongu-madang, Gonggong-nuri and private leader, Europeana.

  • People access web contain via PC and many other devices. In other words, not only they access information by a PC connected internet, but also they get information through a mobile phone, a PDA even D-TV. In this article, to resolve the problem, we suppose new web caching mechanism called 'SOP(Shared Object Page)'based on applying of meta data of web page information and storing adapted objects.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of centralization on shared mental model, satisfaction and achievement in a web-based collaborative learning. Sixty-eight undergraduate students were randomly assigned to 7 groups and they participated in a 4-week web-based collaborative learning. Three highly centralized teams and three less centralized teams were selected, and analyzed for investigating whether there are meaningful differences in shared mental model, satisfaction and achievement according to the degree of centralization. The results showed that there was no significant difference in shared mental model between the highly and less centralized teams. However, the highly centralized teams showed higher level of satisfaction and achievement than the less centralized teams.

  • This paper proposes the BDAS(Big Data analysis Scheme) design that extracts the real time shared information from SNS and Web, analyzes the extracted data rapidly for customers, and makes an on-line marketing strategy efficiently. First, the BDAS collects the data shared in SNS and Web. Second, it provides the result of visualization by analyzing the semantics of the collected data as positive or negative. Therefore, because the BDAS ensures an average 90% accuracy in judging the semantics about the shared SNA and Web data, it can judge customer's propensity accurately and be used for on-line marketing strategy efficiently.

  • One of the important performance metrics of the World Wide Web is how fast and precise a request from users will be serviced successfully. Shared Web Caching (SWC) is one of the techniques to improve the performance of the network system. In Shared Web Caching Systems, the key issue is on deciding when and where an item is cached, and also how to transfer the correct and reliable information to the users quickly. Such SWC distributes the items to the proxies which have sufficient capacity such as the processing time and the cache sizes. In this study, the Hot Spot Prediction Algorithm (HSPA) has been suggested to improve the consistent hashing algorithm in the point of the load balancing, hit rate with a shorter response time. This method predicts the popular hot spots using a prediction model. The hot spots have been patched to the proper proxies according to the load-balancing algorithm. Also a simulator is developed to utilize the suggested algorithm using PERL language. The computer simulation result proves the performance of the suggested algorithm. The suggested algorithm is tested using the consistent hashing in the point of the load balancing and the hit rate.
