간극비를 고려한 흙-수분특성 방정식의 적용성 평가 (Dynamic Deformation Characteristics of Sands Under Various Drainage Conditions)

  • 지금도 불포화토의 특성곡선에 대한 연구는 계속 진행되고 있지만, 지금까지 발표된 특성곡선은 흙의 한가지 상태나 특성을 나타내도록 유도되어 광범위한 적용이 어려운 것은 사실이다. 따라서, 흙의 상태를 범용적으로 나타낼 수 있는 특성곡선을 개발하기 위해서는 현재까지 발표된 특성곡선의 적용성을 평가하여 문제점을 파악하는 것이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 화강풍화토를 대상으로 함수특성곡선실험을 실시한 결과를 바탕으로 간극비에 따른 흙-수분 특성곡선 방정식을 분석하여 간극비에 따른 포화도를 예측하였으며 기존에 제안된 특성식에 대하여 적용성을 검증하였다.

플래시 없는 비축대칭 단조에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flashless Non-Axisymmetric Forging)

  • An UBET(Upper Bound Elemental Techniquel) program has been developed to analyze forging load, die-cavity filling and effective strain distribution for flashless non-axisymmetric forging. To analyze the process easily, it is suggested that the deforma- tion is divided into two different parts. Those are axisymmetric part in corner and plane- strain part in lateral. The total power consumption is minimized through combination of two deformation parts by building block method, form which the upper-bound forging load, the flow pattern, the grid pattern, the velocity distribution and the effective strain are deter- mined. To show the merit of flashless forging, the results of flashless and flash-forging processes are compared through theory and experiment. Experiments have been carried out with plasticine billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions of the forging load and the flow pattern are in good agrement with the experimental results.

수직면에서 회전운동을 하는 탄성로봇의 PID 제어 (PID Control of a flexible robot rotating in vertical plane)

  • This paper presents a technique to control a very flexible robot moving in a vertical plane. The flexible robot is modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam. Elastic deformation is approximated using the assmed modes method. A comparison function which satisfies all geometric and natural boundary conditions of a cantilever beam with an end mass is used as an assumed mode shape. Lagrange's equation is utilized for the development of a discretized model. A control algorithm is developed using a simple PID cnotrol tech- nique. The proportional, integral and deivative control gains are determined based on the dominant pole placement method and tuned to show no overshoot and no steady state error, and short settling time. The effectiveness of the developed control scheme is showed in the hub angular diaplacement control experiment. Three different end masses are uned in the experiment. The experimental results show that developed control algorithm is very effective showing little overshoot, no steady state error, and less than 2.5 second settl- ing time in case of having an end mass which is equivalent to 45% of the manipulator mass. Also the experimental results show that the residual vibration fo the end point is effectively controlled.

Cyclic behavior of self-centering braces utilizing energy absorbing steel plate clusters

  • This paper proposed a new self-centering brace (SCB), which consists of four post-tensioned (PT) high strength steel strands and energy absorbing steel plate (EASP) clusters. First, analytical equations were derived to describe the working principle of the SCB. Then, to investigate the hysteretic performance of the SCB, four full-size specimens were manufactured and subjected to the same cyclic loading protocol. One additional specimen using only EASP clusters was also tested to highlight the contribution of PT strands. The test parameters varied in the testing process included the thickness of the EASP and the number of EASP in each cluster. Testing results shown that the SCB exhibited nearly flag-shape hysteresis up to expectation, including excellent recentering capability and satisfactory energy dissipating capacity. For all the specimens, the ratio of the recovered deformation is in the range of 89.6% to 92.1%, and the ratio of the height of the hysteresis loop to the yielding force is in the range of 0.47 to 0.77. Finally, in order to further understand the mechanism of the SCB and provide additional information to the testing results, the high-fidelity finite element (FE) models were established and the numerical results were compared against the experimental data. Good agreement between the experimental, numerical, and analytical results was observed, and the maximum difference is less than 12%. Parametric analysis was also carried out based on the validated FE model to evaluate the effect of some key parameters on the cyclic behavior of the SCB.

  • In the construction industry, interest in technologies such as 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) is increasing, and research is being conducted continuously. In the case of atypical architecture, different shapes must be implemented, and the introduction of 3D printing technology is intended to solve it. Our researchers are conducting research to produce Free-form Concrete Panel (FCP). It automatically manufactures the FCP's formwork without any error with the design shape. At this time, the concrete nozzle based on the 3D printing technology is developed and the concrete is precisely extruded into the manufactured form to prevent the deformation of the formwork that can occur due to the concrete load. Therefore, in this study, the requirements for the development of 3D printing concrete nozzles for FCP manufacturing are analyzed. Based on the analyzed requirements, the first nozzle was developed. Such equipment is easy to shorten construction period and cost reduction in the atypical construction field, and is expected to be utilized as basic 3D printing equipment.

On the wave propagations of football game ball after contacting with the player foot

  • Wave propagation with high transverse deflection could affect the stability of the ball in its trajectory. For low stiffness balls similar to soccer and volleyball balls, the waves are more noticeable in comparison to other balls like ping-pong ball. On the other hand, the soccer balls are under heavy impact loads from shoots and contacting different objects in the field. The maximum recorded speed of a soccer ball after kicking is the 211 km/hr and the average maximum speed is around 112 km/hr. Therefore, in such speeds the aerodynamic forces become important which are directly related to geometrical shape of the ball. In this regard, the wave propagation in soccer ball is examined in the current study using large deformation shear deformable formulations. Classical relations of stress-strain components are taken into consideration along with minimum total energy principle. The final derived relations were solved by using harmonic differential quadrature method. The results are generally presented ion term of phase velocity as function of different influencing parameters of the materials, geometry and mass of the ball.

Pilot study for investigating behavior of recentering frame connection equipped with friction damper

  • This study introduces a novel friction damper as a component of a recentering frame connection, to solve the problem of structural repair costs, caused by stiffness deterioration and brittle fracture of the central brace frame (CBF). The proposed damper consists of shape memory alloy (SMA) bars with pretension applied to them to improve the stability. SMAs reduce the residual displacement by virtue of the properties of the materials themselves; in addition, a pretension can be applied to partially improve their energy dissipation capacity. The damper also consists of a friction device equipped with friction bolts for increased energy dissipation. Therefore, a study was conducted on the effects of the friction device as well as the pretension forces on the friction damper. For performance verification, 12 cases were studied and analyzed using ABAQUS program. In addition, the friction and pretension forces were used as variables in each case, and the results were compared. As a result, when the pretension and friction force are increased, the energy dissipation capacity gradually increases by up to about 94% and the recentering capacity decreases by up to about 55%. Therefore, it has been shown that SMA bars with adequate pretension in combination with bolts with adequate frictional force effectively reduce residual deformation and increase damper capacity. Thus, this study has successfully proposed a novel friction damper with excellent performance in terms of recentering and energy dissipation capacity.

Collision-Damage Analysis of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Considering Ship-Collision Risk

  • As the number of offshore wind-power installations increases, collision accidents with vessels occur more frequently. This study investigates the risk of collision damage with operating vessels that may occur during the operation of an offshore wind turbine. The floater used in the collision study is a 15 MW UMaine VolturnUS-S (semi-submersible type), and the colliding ships are selected as multi-purpose vessels, service operation vessels, or anchor-handling tug ships based on their operational purpose. Collision analysis is performed using ABAQUS and substantiation is performed via a drop impact test. The collision analyses are conducted by varying the ship velocity, displacement, collision angle, and ship shape. By applying this numerical model, the extent of damage and deformation of the collision area is confirmed. The analysis results show that a vessel with a bulbous bow can cause flooding, depending on the collision conditions. For damage caused by collision, various collision angles must be considered based on the internal stiffener arrangement. Additionally, the floater can be flooded with relatively small collision energy when the colliding vessel has a bulbous bow.

수소압축기용 벨로우즈 다이아프램의 우레탄 금형 전단공정 연구 (A Study on Urethane Pad Blanking Process of Bellows Diaphragm for Hydrogen Compressor)

  • The development of a next-generation hydrogen compressor, a key component in the expansion of hydrogen charging infrastructure, is in progress. In order to improve compression efficiency and durability, it is important to optimize the precision forming and shearing processes of the diaphragm, which is the bellows unit cell, as well as the optimization of diaphragm shape itself. In this study, we aim to show that die and process design technology that can synchronize the inner and outer shearing points of the diaphragm for the precision forming of product can be constructed based on a numerical simulation. First, the damage model that can predict the fracture points will be determined using the shear load and shear zone measurements obtained by performing a blanking test of AISI-633 stainless steel. Next, we will explain the overall procedure based on numerical analysis model how to determine the shearing points according to the deformation pattern of urethane die for various shearing die design.

초탄성 니티놀 형상기억합금의 준정적 거동에 대한 수치해석적 재현 (Numerical Simulation for the Quasi-static Behavior of Superelastic Nitinol Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs))

  • 초탄성 형상기억합금은 상온에서 소성 범위를 초월하여 상당량의 변위를 가하더라도 하중을 제거 후에 별도의 열처리를 가하지 않더라도 원상태로 복원이 가능한 특수한 금속이다. 자동치유가 가능한 형상기억합금의 특유한 재료적인 성질로 인하여 구조물에서 변위가 집중되는 부분에 기존에 주로 사용되는 강재를 대체하여 이러한 특수 합금 재료가 널리 활용되기 시작하였다. 하지만 형상기억합금을 활용한 구조물의 기본적인 설계와 성능 검증을 하기 위해 고등적인 구조해석에 필요한 재료적인 모델의 개발과 연구의 노력이 부족하기 때문에 본 재료를 현장에서 적용하기에는 여전히 많은 제약을 받고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 초탄성 형상기억합금의 거동을 수치해석적인 방법으로 재현이 가능한 구성적인 재료 모델의 소개와 프로그램 코딩에 대하여 다루고자 한다. 또한 본 연구에서 제시된 재료 모델의 타당성을 입증하기 위하여 수치해석적으로 재현된 물리적인 거동을 실험에서 얻어진 데이터에 비교 및 보정 작업도 수행하였다. 아울러 이러한 재료 모델로 구현된 초탄성 형상기억합금의 물리적인 물성치를 구조 해석에 적용하고 정확성을 검증하여 현장 적용의 타당성을 입증하였다.
