  • In this paper, a left module over an associative ring with identity is defined to be openly semiprimitive (strongly semiprimitive, respectively) by the zero intersection of all maximal open fully invariant submodules (all maximal open submodules which are fully invariant, respectively) of it. For any projective module, the openly semiprimitivity of the projective module is an equivalent condition of the semiprimitivity of endomorphism ring of the projective module and the strongly semiprimitivity of the projective module is an equivalent condition of the endomorphism ring of the projective module being a sub direct product of a set of subdivisions of division rings.

  • Rural people of Sudan are endowed with a deep knowledge concerning the utilization of different tree species. However research on the local knowledge related to tree species utilization still lacks adequate attention. The study objectives were to identify the existing local knowledge related to the utilization of the tree species and the existing threats to the availability of the trees. A total of 300 respondents were selected randomly from Rashad district in Nuba Mountains in 2011. Semi-structured interview, direct observation, group discussion, preference ranking and direct matrix ranking were used to collect the data. The study results revealed that people of Nuba Mountains utilize different tree species for food, medicinal purposes, fodder, firewood, construction and cultural ceremonies. The study results also indicated that the availability of trees is negatively influenced by firewood collection, agricultural expansion, drought, overgrazing and charcoal production. The study concluded that local knowledge has crucial role in tree species utilization in Nuba Mountains. Further researches to document and substantiate the local knowledge on useful tree species are highly recommended.

  • Micro wires manufactured by the straightening progress are widely used in bio-medical and semi-conductor fields. In this study, we have developed a novel straightener which uses the direct heating method for straightening. In order to avoid the surface oxidization, during the heating process, we supplied the inert gas(Ar) and examined the effect of the gas flow rate. The effect of the tension and the current applied to the tungsten micro wires were thoroughly studied. From various experiments, it was found that when the tension is $500{\sim}600gf$ and the current is about 1.5A, we obtained higher straightness(${\approx}1{\mu}m/1000{\mu}m$) and roundness ($<{\pm}2{\mu}m/100{\mu}m$).

  • This paper presents a energy function to reflect the control effect of speed governor which has a cut-off property which means position and rate limit The proposed energy function satisfies the semi-negativeness of its time derivative and well reflects the parameters of speed governor to the energy function. The transient stability analysis by the direct method for the single machine infinite bus system has been conducted with the use of the proposed energy function, which shows that the results by the direct method well agree with that by the conventional time simulation method. This thesis shows a possibility of more accurate stability analysis by taking into account the cut-off property of speed governor's output.

  • The impurities in the methanol fuel that is used for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) could greatly affect the performance of membrane electrode assemblies (MEA). The most common impurities in the commercial methanol fuel are mainly ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, or ammonia. In this study, the effect of impurities in methanol fuel was investigated on the performance of MEA. The MEA for DMFC were prepared using a semi-automatic bar-coating machine, which can prepare the catalyst layer with uniform thickness for MEA. As a result, a single cell supplied with one of the 6 different kinds of methanol fuels showed a significant degradation of the fuel cell performance. The most common impurities in the commercial methanol fuel is mainly ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, or ammonia. The effects of the kind and the concentration of impurities in the methanol fuels were investigated on the performance of MEA for DMFC. We will propose the optimum compositions and limit concentration of impurities in methanol fuel for high performance of MEA for DMFC.

  • Vigorous root growth at the seedling stage in dry direct-seeded conditions is considered as a critical trait because it is involved in seedling emergence, early vegetative vigour, nutrient uptake as well as drought tolerance. In this study, we performed QTL mapping using the recombinant inbred lines obtained from the cross between Tongil-type Dasan and temperate japonica TR22183 (DT-RILs) to identify QTL underlying early root development. TR22183, which was previously reported to have high nitrogen utility and cold tolerance, showed vigorous root growth at the seedling stage in semi-drought conditions. Root length, fresh weight and dry weight of TR22183 were significantly higher than in Dasan. By QTL analysis with genotyping-by-sequencing method, we identified two QTLs for root fresh weight (RFW) in chromosome 7 and root dry weight (RDW) in chromosome 8, explaining phenotypic variances of 13.5% and 10.6%, respectively. These QTLs would be used to develop rice varieties adapted to direct-seeded cultivating system.

  • This paper deals with the effect of the direct heating method(DHM) for straightening the micro wire. Straightened micro wires have been widely used in the fields of the medicine and the semi-conductor. We have developed a micro wire straightening system by using the direct wire heating method. To controling the tension of the micro wire during the heating and straightening process, a precision tension sensor was set up. In order to avoid the surface oxidation during the heating process, the argon inert gas was supplied to the vicinity of the wire. And, this paper shows the correlation between the tension and the current when arson gas supplied to the tungsten wire. Through several experiments, the optimal tension and current were found. Also, higher straightness $({\approx}1{\mu}m/1000{\mu}m)$ and roundness$(<{\Phi}{\pm}2{\mu}m/100{\mu}m)$ founded when $500{\mu}600gf$ tension and 1.5 ampere.

  • One of the most important properties of the IC substrate is that it should be uniform over large areas. Among the various physical approaches of wafer defect characterization, special attention is to be payed to the infrared techniques of inspection. In particular, a high spatial resolution, near infrared absorption method has been adopted to directly observe defects in semi-insulating GaAs. This technique, which relies on the mapping of infrared transmission, is both rapid and non-destructive. This method demonstrates in a direct way that the infrared images of GaAs crystals arise from defect absorption process. A new interpretation is presented for the observed reversal of contrast in the infrared absorption of nonuniformly distributed deep centers, related to EL2, in semi-insulating GaAs. The low temperature photoquenching experiment has demonstrated in a direct way that the contrast inverse images of GaAs wafers arise from both absorption and scattering mechanisms rather than charge re-distribution or local variation of bandgap.

  • Representative particle sizes(RPS) are commonly used for particle size distribution of heterogeneous sediment such as bed material. RPS can provide not only information of mean characteristics of sediment, but also other properties like sorting, skewness, kurtosis. For sediment including sand and clay material, RPS is estimated through two steps. The first is experimental step for calculating weight of each size class, the next is interpolation step to get RPS by using the graph plot. At the second step, graph method known as direct reading of value along the interpolation line in the graph plot is commonly used. This method is often time-consuming job. In this study we developed a new program to get RPS by using MS Excel. Simple linear and semi-log interpolation are used. When compared with conventional graph method(direct reading), simple linear shows 5.31%, while semi-log 1.29% of relative difference. We developed MS Excel program for estimation of RPS automatically.
