Ontology for Semantic Retrieval of MPEG-7 MDS and TV-Anytime Multimedia Data (멀티미디어 데이터의 의미적 검색을 위한 MPEG-7 MDS 와 TV-Anytime 기반 온톨로지)

  • This paper describes how to compose multimedia ontology for integrating/searching different types of multimedia databases. For this, we build integrated ontology based on MPEG-7 Multimedia Description Schemes (MDS), which is a representative standard for specifying multimedia contents, and the concept of TV-Anytime and re-express it using Web Ontology Language (OWL). In addition, we explain interoperability of the developed integrated ontology with other types of ontology with different concepts. Lastly, this paper describes the method of semantic search and retrieval using the integrated multimedia ontology.

  • To make Web Services the real applications, the efficient mechanisms for Web Services discovery, Web Services composition and Web Services execution must be provided. Among these issues, especially, Web Services composition plays the key roles in Web Services applications that are loosely coupled and composed applications consisted of primitive Web Service components. In this paper we demonstrate a new Web Service composition approach using ontologies. We apply ontologies to describe Web Services information such as Web Services input/output parameters, pre conditions, post conditions and other necessary management information. In this paper, we also introduce Action ontology and Object ontology to describe the functional properties of Web Services These ontologies offer semantic description of Web Services functionalities beyond the limitation of the current WSDL. We can achieve semantic interoperabilities between heterogeneous Web Services in terms of conceptual processing and realize semantic services composition. We implement semantic Web Services composition system called Genie based on service description ontologies.

  • This study proposes an ontology design framework to support the cooperation among devices by using PROLOG, Conceptual Graph (CG), and Resource Description Framework (RDF). Quite a large number of representation languages for representing ontology on the Web have been established over the last decade. Most of these researches are focused on design of independent resources description. In Semantic Web, however, cooperation ontology will be needed. In this study, the CG could make an entire conceptual view of knowledge and RDF can represent that knowledge. Then the PROLOG could support the natural inference based on that knowledge. Therefore, our proposed ontology will be used in the designing of Semantic Web-based cooperation systems.

  • Recently, many researchers have given high attention to the semantic web services based on the semantic web technology While existing web services use the XML-based web service description language, WSDL, semantic web services are utilizing web service description languages such as DAML-S in ontology languages. The researchers of semantic web services are generally focused on web service discovery, web service invocation, web service selection and composition, and web service execution monitoring. Especially, the semantic web service discovery as the basis to accomplish the ultimate semantic web service environment has some different properties from previous information discovery areas. Hence, it is necessary to develop the storage system and discovery mechanism appropriate to the semantic well description languages. Even though some related systems have been developed, they are not appropriate for the embedded system environment, such as intelligent robotics, in which there are some limitations on memory disk space, and computing power In this regard, we in the embedded system environment have developed the document management system which efficiently manages the web service documents described by DAML-S for the purpose of the semantic web service discovery, In addition, we address the distinguishing characteristics of the system developed in this paper, compared with the related researches.

  • Actually a diffusion of a semantic web application and utilization are situations insufficient extremely. Technology most important in semantic web application is construction of the ontology which contents itself with characteristics of semantic web. Proposed a suitable a method of building web ontology for characteristics or semantic web and web ontology as we compared the existing ontology construction ana ontology construction techniques proposed for web ontology construction, and we analyzed. And modeling old ontology to bases to description logic and the any axiom rule that used an expression way of SWRL, and established inference-based web ontology according to proposed ways. Verified performance of ontology established through ontology inference experiment. Also established an web ontology-based intelligence image retrieval system, to experiment systems for performance evaluation of established web ontology, and present an example of implementation of a semantic web application and utilization. Demonstrated excellence of a semantic web application to be based on ontology through inference experiment of an experiment system.

Characterizing Semantic Warnings of Service Description in Call Processing Language on Internet Telephony

  • The Call Processing Language (CPL, in short), recommended in RFC 2824 of IETF, is a service description language for the Internet Telephony. The CPL allows users to define their own services, which dramatically improves the choice and flexibility of the users. The syntax of the CPL is strictly defined by DTD (Document Type Definition). However, compliance with the DTD is not a sufficient condition for correctness of a CPL script. There are enough rooms for non-expert users to make semantical mistakes in the service logic, which could lead to serious system down. In this paper, we present six classes of semantic warnings for the CPL service description: MF, IS, CR, AS, US, OS. For each class, we give the definition and its effects with an example script. These warnings are not necessarily errors. However, these warnings will help users to find ambiguity, redundancy and inconsistency in their own service description.

  • This paper proposes a semantic description of the English nominal relatives with a knowledge representation framework of Conceptual Graphs(CGs), which is a computer-oriented form of interlanguage from the Conceptual Structures Theory. This paper focuses on the difference between definite and universally quantified meaning of nominal relatives, on the compound relative clauses, and also on the difference between nominal relative clauses and interrogative clauses.

  • 최근 차세대 Web 기술로서 Semantic Web이 주목 받고 있다. Semantic Web에서는 Web상에 존재하는 문서에 Web Resource들에 대한 Ontology를 기반으로 Semantic Annotation을 하고 Ontology 추론 Agent를 통하여 의미 기반으로 Web을 검색할 수 있도록 해준다. 이와 같은 Semantic Web 기술의 핵심 요소는 Web Ontology이며 W3C에서는 이를 표현 할 수 있는 표준 언어로서 RDF기반의 OWL(Web Ontology Language) 명세를 제정하고 있다. 따라서 표준 Web Ontology 언어인 OWL을 위한 추론 시스템은 Semantic Web 검색 Agent의 구현을 위한 필수적인 기반 기술이라 할 수 있으나 아직 그 개발이 미비한 상태이다. OWL 추론 시스템을 구현하기 위해서는 OWL의 이론적인 기반을 제공하는 DL(Description Logic)을 추론할 수 있는 엔진을 사용하는 것이 한가지 방법이 될 수 있으나 OWL이 Rule과 같은 DL의 범주를 벗어나는 Vocabulary를 지원하는 언어로 확장되는 경우에 이를 처리하기가 어렵다. 또 다른 방법으로서 Logic Programming을 통하여 OWL 언어의 Semantic을 기술하고 정리 증명(Theorem Proving)을 통하여 Ontology를 추론하는 공리화(Axiomatisation) 기법이 있는데 이러한 방법의 장점은 기반이 되는 Logic의 범주 내에서 새로운 언어를 위한 Vocabulary의 확장이 용이하다는 점이다. 본 논문에서는 Axiomatisation 방법을 이용하여 OWL로 기술된 Ontology를 추론할 수 있는 시스템의 설계 및 구현에 대해 설명하기로 한다.

Sharing e-Learning Object Metadata Using ebXML Registries for Semantic Grid Computing

  • To facilitate the processes of e-learning resource description, discovery and reuse, e-learning objects should be appropriately described and classified using standard metadata that need to be published in a registry to reduce duplication of effort and enhance semantic interoperability. This paper describes how standard ebXML registries can be used for semantic grid computing for annotating, storing, discovering and retrieving e-learning object metadata. For semantic annotation of e-learning objects, IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) is adopted as the metadata ontology. In order to support the e-learning metadata ontology in interoperable ebXML registries, a mapping scheme between LOM and ebXML Registry Information Model (RIM) is proposed. The usefulness of sharing e-learning object metadata is demonstrated by prototyping a semantic registry based on the scheme.

The Interoperability between RDF/OWL and Topic Maps using the Semantic Wiki (시맨틱 위키를 이용한 RDF/OWL과 토픽맵 사이의 상호운용성)

  • With the emergence of Semantic Web and Web 2.0, the paradigm shift of the Web is on resource-centered services. That is, the focus now moves from having just rich resources to the meta-information of describing the resources. The relevant standards, RDF(Resource Description Language) and Topic Maps, of describing the meta-information are defined and adopted by W3C and ISO respectively. Describing meta-information in such a XML form could be burdensome to participants. Semantic Wiki extended from 1)WikiWikiWeb is proposed to deal with the problem. It enables users to generate RDF meta-information about Wiki pages with simple usages of the grammar. We discuss the way of improving interoperability between Topic Maps-based semantic Wiki papges and RDF-based ones. The method proposed by RDFTM task force is present with the usage of high-level Wiki grammar for facilitating low-level transformation.
