An Efficient Checkpoint Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network for Reliability (무선 센서 네트워크에서 신뢰성 향상을 위한 효율적인 체크포인트 프로토콜)

  • The reliability concept of wireless sensor network is essential to get exactly actual data from the ubiquitous environment. A rollback technique for the self-healing helps to increase it. However, a fault can occur in wireless sensor network when to use a previous rollback technique because it is designed just for the local system. So, checkpoint protocols are suggested in order to use a rollback technique in the network without the fault. However, there is trade-off among performance overhead, power consumption, and memory overhead for each of protocols. Hence, we suggest a novel global checkpoint protocol, so called address log based protocol(ALBP), based on an asynchronous protocol. It is a platform based protocol to reduce power consumption, performance overhead, and memory overhead which are the most of consideration in wireless sensor network.

An Automatic Address Allocation Mechanism based on the Signal Strength for the PLC-based Home Network (전력선 홈 네트워크를 위한 신호 세기 기반의 자동 주소 할당 기술)

  • We can categorize the network address allocation mechanism into two types. One is to assign a unique network address using the address allocation server and the other is to make a random address by itself and process the DAD(Duplicate Address Detection) procedure. In this paper we suggest a new address allocation mechanism based on the signal strength for the PLC-based home network. As the combined mechanism of two types this mechanism allocates a unique address for the new node from one of the existing nodes with the simple equation and with the priority based on the signal strength from the new node to the existing nodes. We can use this mechanism for the self-healing function when the packet from the source node may not be delivered to the destination node directly. We developed the simulator for our mechanism using the C# programming and verified the network address assigned uniquely based on the signal strength.

  • In this paper, we propose the protection coordination algorithm using communication methode based on IEC 61850. The communication protocol in power distribution management system has been issued by IEC standard, IEC61850 of them, which was made for substation automation system, has researched to apply into power distribution system, even though the standard is not a suitable for the system. In smart distribution management system' launched in 2009, the communication network based on the ethernet network for IEC 61850 has been designed to apply the self-healing concept, which is to perform the system protection through the communication between remote terminal units(RTU) according to the standard. However, it is first time to apply the scheme in the real. Thus, this paper proposed the protection algorithm and consideration for applying communication method and introduced the result of demonstration.

A Geographical Study on the Spiritual Therapeutic Landscape: From a Perspective of Catholic Sacred Places in Korea (영적 치유의 경관에 관한 지리학적 고찰: 한국 천주교 순례지를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to consider spiritual therapeutic landscapes thought the case of catholic sacred places in Korea. The catholic sacred places, which have been a series of persecution, are distributed in 300 all over the country and can be divided into a formational type, a selective type, and a participatory type. In the formational type, the catholic sculptures are scattered here and there; but it seems that there are limits somewhat to feel the emotional stability and the experience of caring by God. Because the formational type is deserted or is built up in unnoticeable urban areas. The religious factors, for example, museums, special pray, Station of the Cross, Rosary way, statues of the Virgin Mary, catholic sculptures, etc. in the selective type are placed in the corners of the catholic sacred places to provide the opportunity of holy experience to pilgrims. But the level and the intensity of healing depends on the matter as to how much pilgrims experience religious factors voluntarily. Lastly, the participatory type means the experience of various religious factors following scheduled programs. The experience is for the group of pilgrims, not a person; and the human relationship via the religious experience spiritualizes the network of interest towards other participants. Furthermore, the spiritualized open mind towards other people becomes the power that can arrive at the emotional stability, the relief of stress, and the in-depth and authentic healing. Ultimately, the spiritual healing through religious factors is to realize human finitude and dedicate one's own self to God; in addition, the spiritual therapeutic landscapes are the place that can carry out such a spiritual ritual without any restraint.

  • In centralize CDN systems, the content server selection is performed by service node for every user request, and the selected node is notified to the user. In this paper, we present distributed CDN architecture and algorithm in which the request from a user is delivered to the content source by a P2P algorithm utilizing DHT(distributed hash table) through the overlay network and the user selects one of the source nodes based on real-time user-centric criteria. For this purpose, we propose a modified Pastry algorithm for contents registration, search and selection, in addition to the distributed architecture. The proposed architecture has the advantages of load balancing, traffic balancing, scalability, fault-tolerance due to the self-configuration, self-healing attributes of distributed architecture. Various simulation shows the feasibility of the proposed architecture and algorithm, and the performance is compared and discussed for the variations of the proposed scheme.

  • The protection switching technology is widely adopted in the fiber-optical transmission equipments based on TDM(Time Division Multiplexing), such as PDH, SDH/SONET. A variety of protection switching algorithms for Ethernet networks and the progress of standardization are summarized in the document. There are several kinds of protection switching algorithms for Ethernet networks, such as STP, RSTP, MSTP and etc. However, since Ethernet signal move through detour route, it causes much time to recover. Accordingly, it is difficult to secure a usability of Ethernet networks and QOS(Quality of Service). Also, if the protection switching protocol standardized by IEEE and ITU-T is used, it remains a inherent network switching time for protection. Therefore, a specific protection switching algorithm for Ethernet are needed for seamless and stable operation of Ethernet networks service for Distribution Automation System(DAS). A reliable protection algorithm with no switching delay time is very important to implement Self-healing service for DAS. This study of FPGA based protection switching algorithm for Ethernet networks shows that in case of faults occurrence on distribution power network, immediate fault isolation and restoration are conducted through interaction with distribution equipments using P2P(Peer to Peer) communication for protection coordination. It is concluded that FPGA based protection switching algorithm for Ethernet networks available 0ms switching time is crucial technology to secure reliability of DAS.

A study of communication-based protection coordination for networked distribution system (네트워크 배전계통용 통신기반 보호협조에 관한 연구)

  • Although the distribution system has been structured as complicated as a mesh in the past, the connection points for each line are always kept open, so that it is operated as a radial distribution system (RDS). For RDS, the line utilization rate is determined according to the maximum load on the line, and the utilization rate is usually kept low. In addition, when a fault occurs in the RDS, a power outage of about 3 to 5 minutes occurs until the fault section is separated, and the healthy section is transferred to another line. To improve the disadvantages of the RDS, research on the construction of a networked distribution system (NDS) that linking multiple lines is in progress. Compared to the RDS, the NDS has advantages such as increased facility utilization, load leveling, self-healing, increased capacity connected to distributed generator, and resolution of terminal voltage drop. However, when a fault occurs in the network distribution system, fault current can flow in from all connected lines, and the direction of fault current varies depending on the fault point, so a high-precision fault current direction determination method and high-speed communication are required. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an accurate fault current direction determination method by comparing the peak value polarity of the fault current in the event of a fault, and a communication-based protection coordination method using this method.
