  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among hospital nurses. Methods: Participants in this study were 231 nurses from two hospitals. The self-reported questionnaire was used to assess the level of self-efficacy, social support and OCB. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression. Results: The mean score of OCB was 4.82, self-efficacy was 4.65, and social support was 4.56. The OCB was statistically significant according to position (t=-1.97, p=.049). The OCB was positively correlated with self-efficacy (r=.558, p<.001) and social support (r=.245, p<.001). The self-efficacy and social support explained 33.0% of the variance for OCB. Conclusion: The findings suggest that developing programs to improve self-efficacy and social support might be useful. Furthermore, more studies are needed to explore variables that influence nurses' Organizational Citizenship Behavior.

  • Purpose: This survey aimed to find out the relationship of work stress, self-efficacy, and task performance of the preceptor. Method: The data of this study were collected from 215 Preceptors who have been working in four hospitals in Deajeon. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and Duncan test for group differences, Pearson's correlation and Multiple Linear Regression with SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Result: There were significant positive relations between the work stress (r=0.193, p<0.05), self-efficacy (r=0.346, p<0.00), and the task performance of preceptor. The most predictive factors of the task performance were self-efficacy(11.5%), the job stress(2.7%), and age(2.0%). Conclusion: Nursing department supervisors need to manage preceptor to reduce work stress and to improve self-efficacy. It is recommended that work stress should be decreased and programs for increasing self-efficacy need developing in order to satisfy self-realization of preceptors and their needs.

  • Tests of intrinsic-extrinsic motivation, self-efficacy, and creativity were administered to 75 college students. Results were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, partial correlation and Barron and Kenny's(1986) model. The main results were that (1) creativity was positively correlated with intrinsic motivation and negatively correlated with extrinsic motivation. (2) Self-efficacy played an important mediating role in the relationship between extrinsic motivation and creativity, but not in the relationship between intrinsic motivation and creativity, suggesting that extrinsic motivation negatively affects creativity because it lowers self-efficacy, which is intimately related with creativity. (3) The negative effect of extrinsic motivation on creativity was explained by such sub-factors of self-efficacy as self-confidence and preference for difficult tasks, but not by self-regulatory efficacy.

Method: The subjects of this study consisted of 93 patients with arthritis. The data was collected from July to September, 2004 and it was analyzed with t-tests, ANOVA, Duncan's tests and Pearson Con-elation Coefficients using SAS. Result: Self-efficacy showed significant differences according to the economic status, pain, the number of previous treatment methods, depression, the perception of health status and the number of affected sites. There was a significant correlation between self-efficacy and depression (r=-.48, p<.000), the perception of health status and self-efficacy (r=-.29, p=.01), and perception of health status and depression (r=.34, p.001. Conclusion: Continuous self-management and a proper program on self-efficacy promotion are required for the management of arthritis patients.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of the self efficacy promoting program on self efficacy and performance of preventive health behavior of uterine cervical cancer for community nurses. Method: A one group quasi-experimental research with pre and post test design was used. The subjects of the study were consisted of twenty two community nurses in a city in Korea. The whole program was carried out from July to September, 2003. The effect of the program was analyzed at the first week, the fifth week, and the ninth week since the experiment input began. Data were analyzed with repeated ANOVA to determine the effects of program. Results: 1) After the self efficacy promoting program, self efficacy scores were significantly increased compared to those before the program(F=12.029. p=0.005). 2) After the self efficacy promoting program, preventive health behavior scores were significantly increased than those before the program(F=10.431. p=0.006). Conclusions: This 9-week program showed much affirmative effect on the prevention of uterine cervical cancer for community nurses. Thus this program can be recommended to the management of the prevention and early detection of uterine cancer.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing career preparation behavior based on the perception of college students from the perspective of social cognitive career theory and to examine the effect of career barriers and career decision self - efficacy on career preparation behavior And career - decision self - efficacy. The results of the study are as follows. First, career barriers perceived by college students showed a significant positive correlation with career decision self - efficacy and career preparation behavior(-), and career decision efficacy showed a statistically significant correlation with career preparation behavior(+). Second, as a result of linear regression analysis to examine the effect of career barriers on career preparation behavior, lack of self - clarification, lack of job information, and lack of recognition of need were subordinate factors of career barriers. Third, as a result of linear regression analysis to examine the effect of career decision - making self - efficacy on career preparation behavior, goal setting and job information, which are sub - factors of career decision self - efficacy, were analyzed. Fourth, mediating effects of career decision self - efficacy on career barriers and career preparation behavior were analyzed by hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study confirm that the level of career barrier, which is an important factor in career preparation behavior of college students, should be lowered and career decision self - efficacy should be increased.

  • This study was designed to identify the relationship of perceived self-efficacy and sick-role behavioral compliance in diabetic children. The forty-two diabetic children participating in this study were selected from outpatients. he period of data collection was August 8 to December 9, 1994. Collected data were analyzed by means of chi-square test, t-test, Pearson correlation using SPSS/P $C^+. The result are summarized as follows : 1. The mean score of perceived self-efficacy was 3. 21 that of sick-role behavioral compliance 3.17. 2. Perceived self-efficacy and sick-role behavioral compliance had a positive correlation which was statistically significant(r=0.77, p<0.001). 3. There were statistically significant difference in perceived self-efficacy according to age(p<0. 01) and acknowledgment of prescribed calories in the diabetic diet(p<0.001). 4. There were statistically significant difference in sick-role behavioral compliance according to age (p<0.01) and acknowledgment of prescribed calories in the diabetic diet (p<0.001). These results suggest that perceived self-efficacy is an important variable in the compliance of diabetic children. Nursing intervention needs to be directed at promoting perceived self-efficacy to maintain sickrole behavioral compliance for diabetic children. Therefore programs of nursing intervention should be revised in order to promote perceived self-efficacy in diabetic children.en.
