  • In this paper, we proposed security management architecture that combines programmable network technology and policy based network management technology to manage efficiently heterogeneous security systems. By using proposed security management architecture, a security administrator can manage heterogeneous security systems using security policy, which is automatically translated into a programmable security policy and executed on programmable middleware of security system. In addition, programmable middleware that has the features of programmable network can reduce excessive management traffic. We showed that the programmable middleware could reduce the load of management traffic by comparing processing time between the proposed architecture and PBNM architecture.

  • In this paper, we propose security management architecture that manages efficiently security systems that are produced by different companies and programmable middleware that can reduce the load of management traffic. The proposed architecture applies programmable networks technology to policy based network management (PBNM). The proposed architecture manages and cooperates various security systems using security policy. Also, the programmable middleware provides convenience of management and reduces the overhead of a policy server by translating security policy into execution command. In addition, using programmable middleware, an administrator can manage various security systems that are produced by different companies. We showed that the programmable middleware could reduce the load of management traffic by comparing processing time for enforcing and transferring of policies/messages between the proposed architecture and PBNM architecture.

  • This paper analyzed factors for employees to violate information security policy in financial companies based on the theory of reasoned action (TRA), general deterrence theory (GDT), and information security awareness and moderating effects of perceived sensitivity of customer information. Using the 376 samples that were collected through both online and offline surveys, statistical tests were performed. We found that the perceived severity of sanction and information security policy support to information policy violation attitude and subjective norm but the perceived certainty of sanction and general information security awareness support to only subjective norm. Also, the moderating effects of perceived sensitivity of customer information against information policy violation attitude and subjective norm were supported. Academic implications of this study are expected to be the basis for future research on information security policy violations of financial companies; Employees' perceived sanctions and information security policy awareness have an impact on the subjective norm significantly. Practical implications are that it can provide a guide to establish information security management strategies for information security compliance; when implementing information security awareness training for employees to deter violations by emphasizing the sensitivity of customer information, a company should make their employees recognize that the customer information is very sensitive data.

  • This paper introduces Policy Management Tool which was implemented based on Policy Information Model in network suity system. Network security system consists of policy terror managing and sending policies to keep a specific domain from attackers and policy clients detecting and responding intrusion by using policies that policy server sends. Policies exchanged between policy server and policy client are saved in database in the form of directory through LDAP by using Policy Management Tool based on network security policy information model. NSPIM is an extended policy information model of IETF's PCIM and PCIMe, which enables network administrator to describe network security policies. Policy Management Tool based on NSPIM provides not only policy management function but also editing function using reusable object, automatic generation function of object name and blocking policy, and other convenient functions to user.

  • This study proposes the practical information security measures that help IT personnel of banks comply the information security policy. The research model of the study is composed of independent variables (clarity and comprehensiveness of policy, penalty, dedicated security organization, audit, training and education program, and top management support), a dependent variable (information security policy compliance intention), and moderating variables (age and gender). Analyses results show that the information security measures except 'clarity of policy' and 'training and education program' are proven to affect the 'information security policy compliance intention.' In case of moderating variables, age moderated the relationship between top management support and compliance intention, but gender does not show any moderating effect at all. This study analyzes information security measures based solely on the perception of the respondents. Future study may introduce more objective measurement methods such as systematically analyzing the contents of the information security measures instead of asking the respondents' perception. In addition, this study analyzes intention of employees rather than the actual behavior. Future research may analyze the relationship between intention and actual behavior and the factors affecting the relationship.

  • This paper proposes the architecture and the methods of security network management for auto-configuration of security systems by extending the existing policy-based network management architecture. The architecture and the methods proposed in this paper enable a security management sewer to automatically decide the best-suited security policy to apply to a security system and the most effective and efficient security system to perform security policy rule, based on the role and capability information of security systems and the role and time information of security policy. For integrated control of network system and security system, this paper also proposes SNMP protocol based security network topology map generator. To show the excellence of the proposed architecture and methods, we simulate and evaluate the automatic response against attacks.

  • With a remarkable growth and expansion of Internet, the security issues emerged from intrusions and attacks such as computer viruses, denial of services and hackings to destroy information have been considered as serious threats for Internet and the private networks. To protect networks from those attacks, many vendors have developed various security systems such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control systems. However, managing those systems individually requires too much work and high cost. Thus, in order to manage integrated security management and establish consistent security management for various security products, the policy model of PN-ISMS (Policy Based Integrated Security Management System) has become very important. In this paper, present the hierarchical policy model which explore the refinement of high-level/conceptual policies into a number of more specific policies to form a policy hierarchy. A formal method of policy description was used as the basis of the mode in order to achieve precision and generality. Z-Notation was chosen for this propose. The Z-Notation is mathematical notation for expressing and communicating the specifications of computer programs. Z uses conventional notations of logic and set theory organized into expressions called schemas.

  • Information Technology (IT) plays an increasingly important role for small and medium-sized enterprises. It has become fundamental for these companies to protect information and IT assets in relation to risks and threats that have grown in recent years. This study aims to understand the importance and structure of an information security policy, using a quantitative study that intends to identify the most important and least relevant elements of an information security policy document. The findings of this study reveal that the top three most important elements in the structure of a security policy are the asset management, security risk management and define the scope of the policy. On the other side, the three least relevant elements include the executive summary, contacts and manual inspection. Additionally, the study reveals that the importance given to each element of the security policy is slightly changed according to the sectors of activity. The elements that show the greatest variability are the review process, executive summary and penalties. On the other side, the purpose of the policy and the asset management present a stable importance for all sectors of activity.

  • Organizations rely on Secure ID resources today to handle vast amounts of information. Because the data can vary widely in type and in degree of sensitivity, employees need to be able to exercise flexibility in handling and protecting it. It would not be practical or cost-effective to require that all data be handled in the same manner or be subject to the same protection requirements. Without some degree of standardization, however inconsistencies can develop at introduce risks. Policy formulation is an important step toward standardization of security activities for ID resources. ID security policy is generally formulated from the input of many members of an organization, including security officials, line managers, and ID resource specialists. However, policy is ultimately approved and issued by the organization's senior management. In environments where employees feel inundated with policies, directives, guidelines and procedures, an ID security policy should be introduced in a manner that ensures that management's unqualified support is clear. The organization's policy is management's vehicle for emphasizing the commitment to ID security and making clear the expectations for employee involvement and accountability. This paper will discuss ID security Policy in terms of the different types (program-level and issue-specific), components, and Implementation of Expert System Simulation based on 4GL, PowerBuilder.

  • Policy-based Network Management (PBNM) has been presented as a paradigm for efficient and customizable management systems. The approach chosen is based on PBNM systems, which are a promising and novel approach to network management. These systems have the potential to improve the automation of network management processes. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has also used policy concepts and provided a framework to describe the concept as the Policy Core Information Model (PCIM) and its extensions. There are policy conflicts among the policies that are defined as the policy information model and they are not easily and effectively detected and resolved. In this paper, we present the brief description of PBNM and illustrate the concepts of policy core information model and its policy implementation for a network security. Especially we describe our framework for detecting and resolving the policy conflicts for network security.
