The purpose of this study is to investigate what image and perception of the engineering scientifically gifted students have. For this, we conducted a survey of 182 students who are freshman or sophomore in science high schools. First, we analyzed the image of the engineering and science based on the survey. Second, we investigated the perception of the engineering and the need for engineering education. Third, we analyzed the attitude toward the engineering. The result of this study is as follow. We found that they perceived engineering positively as much as that they gave an affirmative answers to the most of questions about engineering and field of engineering. Even though engineering careers and fields of career are very important particularly for gifted students, they have not only lack of recognition and negative image of engineering but also a misconception. It seems to be due to the lack of opportunities for engineering education. In addition, gifted students have meaningful differences according to gender, grade level, future career group. In conclusion, compared to the importance of engineering for them, the image and perception and attitude of the engineering gifted students have were examined to be very lacking.
This paper was to examine the effects of university-based science gifted education program on scientifically gifted students' science problem finding ability and cognitive-affective factors. For this study, 69 scientifically gifted students with previous Silted education experiences at the university-based science gifted education centers and 91 scientifically gifted students without any previous gifted education experiences were compared. Both groups of students were currently enrolled at a specialized science high school. To compare both groups, scientific problem finding ability, science anxiety, science related attitude, self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, test anxiety, cognitive strategies, and self-regulation were measured. The results indicate that there was no significant difference on scientific problem finding ability between these two groups. The comparison between the past and now in the aspects of variables observed in the study showed that both groups of students were decreased in the science anxiety and self-efficacy. But the test anxiety was significantly increased compared to the past in both groups. Implications of the study were discussed in depth.
The purpose of this research was to compare the leadership characteristics and emotional intelligence between scientifically gifted middle school students and general students and to investigate the emotional intelligence's effects on leadership characteristics. For this study, 150 scientifically gifted middle school students and 130 general students were participated. The results obtained from this study were as follows. First, the total score of leadership characteristic and sub-domains of leadership characteristic showed significant difference. The leadership characteristic of the gifted students turned out to be significantly higher than that of general students. Investigating gender difference, it showed that the score of girls significantly higher than that of boys in some sub-domain both gifted and general students. Second, the total score of emotional intelligence and sub-domains of emotional intelligence showed significant difference. There were significant differences between the two groups in 'thinking-acceleration ability by emotion' and 'ability of utilizing emotional knowledge'. Investigating gender difference, it showed that the score of girls significantly higher than that of boys in some sub-domain both gifted and general students. Third, it proved to be significantly positive correlation between leadership characteristic and emotional intelligence of gifted middle school students. Forth, the gifted students' emotional intelligence affected leadership characteristic significantly by multiple regression analysis.
This study analyzed the types of scientific humors made by scientifically-gifted elementary school students and their perceptions of making scientific humor. For this, 77 students from $4^{th}$ to $6^{th}$ graders of gifted science education center in Seoul National University of Education were selected. Scientific humors made by the students were analyzed according to the number and types. Their perceptions of making scientific humor were also analyzed through a questionnaire and group interviews. The analysis of the results revealed that most of scientifically-gifted students made more than 2 scientific humors, and the number of scientific humor for each students varied from 0 to 11. The most types they made were the descriptive type and the pun using pronunciation type, but they made various types without any special type to be biased. And They made more the dialogue type than the narrative type, especially the riddle type. They used scientific knowledge that preceded the knowledge of science curriculum in their grade level over two or more years. The scientific knowledge of chemistry was used more than physics, biology, earth science and combination field. The name utilization type was more than the characteristic utilization type and the principle utilization type. Scientific humors in the everyday situation were more than humors in artificial situation. The students had various positive perceptions in making scientific humor such as increase of scientific knowledge, increase of various thinking abilities, deep understanding of science concept and principle, increase of interest and motivation about science and science learning, and increase on sense of humor. They had also some negative perceptions related to difficulties in the process of making scientific humor, lack of fun, and lack of time in the class.

This study was designed to compare the understanding of ordinary elementary school students and scientifically gifted students about scientists. 473 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in ordinary elementary schools and 40 students attending scientific educational institutions for the gifted were studied with the help of questionnaires and interviews. The survey showed that there were no significant differences between the two subject groups in relation to the external images of scientists. The subjects turned out to have low fixed external images. The scientifically gifted students had a better understanding of the internal images of scientists than ordinary elementary school students. Both the subject groups fumed out to be influenced by the press media and off-campus education, thinking that scientists served as inventors producing something useful in daily lift rather than as researchers studying natural phenomena or laws. It was found out that both groups admired Edison. The ordinary students respected Einstein and Jang Yeong-Sil whereas the scientifically gifted students respected Curie, Jug Yeong-Sil, and Nobel. The subjects admired them because of their achievements instead of their backgrounds or individual characteristics.
This study aims to compare resilience and task commitment between the elementary gifted students in science and non-gifted students. The subjects in this study were 132 gifted students belonged to gifted education centers or gifted classes and 147 non-gifted students, all of whom were in the 6th grade. In order to examine resilience and task commitment, a 5-point Likert scale-style questionnaire survey was conducted to the subjects. With the aim of identifying the difference between resilience and task commitment among groups, data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test. And in order to investigate the relationship between resilience and task commitment among groups, Pearson correlation analysis was carried out. The results of this study were as follows; First, resilience was found to have a significant difference between scientifically gifted students belonged to gifted education centers and non-gifted elementary students, and between students of gifted classes and ordinary elementary students, with no significant difference between scientifically gifted elementary students belonged to gifted education centers and students of gifted classes. Second, task commitment was found to have a significant difference between scientifically gifted elementary students belonged to gifted education centers and non-gifted students. Third, there were very high correlation between resilience and task commitment among the groups.
The purpose of this study was to develop science and art integrated program to improve the creativity of scientifically gifted elementary school students. This study was to develop science and art integrated program to enhance the creativity of these subjects. This program was consisted of 30 lessons covering 10 topics. It was developed of five stages including the observation stage reflecting the characteristics of the right hemisphere relevant to creativity, the interest and curiosity stage, the experiment design and performing stage, the internalization stage, and the stage of expressing arts. This program was applied to 20 senior gifted students in Y Elementary School in Gyeonggi province. Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking(TTCT) was used in order to investigate and measure the effectiveness of the program before and after its use in class. The results of this study are as follows: First, this program showed results of significant improvement of creativity of scientifically gifted elementary school students after its use in class(p<.05). Second, it was significantly effective in increasing their creativity, especially in the subdomains such as originality, abstractness of title, and territory of resistance on hasty conclusions after its use in class(p<.05). Third, it was significantly effective to increase the Creativity Index that represents creative potential(p<.01). In particular, emotional expression, internalized visualization, unique visualization, and richness of the imagery emerged. This study implies that the science and art integrated program was closely related to the right hemisphere of the features enabling the subjects to create new ideas, new things, and new reactions. In addition, this program is expected to contribute to activate the brain areas of creativity for gifted students in the science field.

The purpose of this study is to explore the teaching and learning experiences to improve the positive experiences about science (PES) of scientifically-gifted elementary school students. For this study, 36 students in grades 5~6 at a gifted science education institutes in Seoul were selected and conducted pre-test and post-test for 'Test for Indicators of Positive Experiences about Science (TIPES).' After the weekly science classes of the institutions were over, individual in-depth interviews were also conducted with some students to explore the teaching and learning experiences for improving their PES. The analysis of the results reveals that the science classes for scientifically-gifted students have been shown to improve PES of scientifically-gifted elementary school students. The teaching and learning experiences to improve their PES included eight teaching and learning experiences that appeared in general elementary school students of previous study such as 'practice-centered exploratory activities,' 'student-led class,' 'positive and professional feedback,' 'construction of knowledge through exploration,' 'class considering student's interest and aptitude,' 'use of materials related to real life,' 'smooth communication and collaboration in group activities,' and 'appropriate difficulty in learning content.' There were also six teaching and learning experiences that newly emerged from science-gifted students: 'Learning experience through the strategies for improving scientific creativity,' 'inquiry experience as a little scientist,' 'advanced or accelerated learning experience,' 'learning experience with excellent students,' 'experience helping other students,' and 'experience with high or low achievement'. Based on these results, the practical implications for improving the student's PES are suggested.
What are the critical factors in deciding future career to the gifted and talented students? The present study started with this question, and was to develop a career decision-making scale for scientifically gifted undergraduates. For this, literatures related to the scientifically gifted/talent and scientists' career decision-making were reviewed and examined in depth. Based on the review of the related literature, the developed scale of career decision-making was comprised of 26 items in 6 factors, such as individual aptitude & self-realization, economic aspect, work & leisure, familial influence, parents/teachers' recommendation, and experience of science activity during the school days. For the preliminary exploratory factor analysis, 153 undergraduate students who were majoring in natural sciences and engineer participated in the study. For the confirmatory factor analysis, 264 undergraduates who were awarded the presidential scholarships and 93 undergraduates who completed a university-affiliated gifted education center participated. The results of the study are as follows. The fit of measurement model was found to be $x^{2}$=645.157 (df=279, p=.00), TLI=.924, CFI= .935, RMSEA=.061, indicating most of fit indexes were acceptable. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ in each sub-factor was quite high, .82 for individual aptitude & self-realization, .94 for economic aspect, .84 for work and leisure, .88 for familial influence, .79 for patents/ teachers' recommendation, and .79 for experience of science activity during the school days. The results of the study were discussed whether the developed scale could be used as a valid and reliable tool for measuring career decision-making factors of the scientifically gifted undergraduates in our country.
The purpose of this study was to investigate for gifted elementary students in science the feature of character, life goals and happiness, and the effect relationship on happiness based on the relationship between factors. For this, independent t-test, multi-linear regression analysis and hierarchical regression were conducted. The results from this study are as follows. First, scientifically gifted elementary students show higher level of responsibility, ethics, positive self-understanding and contribution goal, but lower in material and image goal than general students. Second, character, life goal and happiness are correlated. Third, female students rather than male students and students with consideration/service character have intrinsic goals. While, the students with higher level of consideration/service and lower level of sympathy show extrinsic goals. The higher the level of consideration/service and the lower of self-control they have the higher their happiness are. Fourth, as scientifically gifted elementary students have more consideration and relationship goal, their happiness go up. While, the more they have self-growth and material goal, the lower the happiness. Fifth, the character of scientifically gifted elementary students is the factor that explains the effect on happiness more easily than life goal, relatively. The factor of life goal mediates the consideration/service and happiness. In conclusion, I hope that this study contribute to raise the happiness of scientifically gifted elementary students, and considerate the character education and counseling program for character development.
