Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of Nurses' Attitudes and Preparedness towards Delegation (한국어판 간호사의 위임에 대한 태도 및 준비성 측정도구의 타당도와 신뢰도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of nurses' attitudes toward delegation and preparedness to delegate (APD). Methods: The Korean version of APD was developed through forward-backward translation methods. Internal consistency reliability, criterion validity, and construct validity using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 19 and AMOS 20.0. Survey data were collected from 161 nurses working in 2 general hospitals. Results: The Korean version of APD showed Cronbach's alphas of .68 and .85. Factor loadings of the 8 attitude items on the 3 subscales ranged from .60 to .86 and the 15 preparedness items on the 4 subscales ranged from .47 to .90. The model of 3 subscales for the Korean nurses' attitude toward delegation and the model of 4 subscales for the Korean nurses' preparedness to delegate were both validated by confirmatory factor analysis(NC<3, CFI>.90, RMSEA<.10). Criterion validity compared to job satisfaction showed significant correlation. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrate that this modified Korean version of APD is applicable for measuring Korean nurses' attitude toward delegation and preparedness to delegate.

Perceived image of nurses on major and non-major students (간호대 학생과 일반대 학생이 지각하는 간호사 이미지)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the perceived image of nurses on major and non-major students. Methods: The subjects were 120 nursing school students and 120 other university students in J province. The data was collected by using structured questionnaire. T-test, ANOVA were performed by SPSS/PC 20.0. Results: The score for image of nurses was as follows. special image($3.86{\pm}0.51$), traditional image($3.71{\pm}0.53$), individual image($3.53{\pm}0.85$), social image($3.43{\pm}0.58$), and grand mean($3.66{\pm}0.48$). Perceived image of nurses was significant difference between students of a major and non-major(t=6.390, p<.001). Conclusion: It is needed to monitoring of media for the improvement the perceived image of nurses and also nurses have to try to make an individual role model.

The Importance and Performance of Nursing Interventions Perceived by Nurses in Long-term Care Facilities for Elderly (노인요양시설에서 활용되는 간호중재의 중요도와 수행도 분석)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify nursing interventions which were perceived highly in the importance and performance of nursing interventions by nurses in long-term care facilities for elderly. Method: Data was collected from nurses working in long-term care facilities for elderly over 2 years who participated in continuous education by Korea Association of Senior Citizens Welfare Institution. Data was analyzed using mean and paired t-test to compare difference between the importance and performance of each nursing intervention. Results: Among 264 nursing intervention, 49 nursing interventions were considered highly important and performed very often by nurses. Especially, 11 nursing interventions had significant difference between the importance and the performance, which meant that nurses perceived them as the most important and they were not implemented often as much as that by nurses. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that what kinds of the nursing interventions were perceived highly important and performed very often by nurses in long-term care facilities for elderly. These nursing interventions can be utilized in the development of standardized nursing intervention classification to be used for the long-term care facilities for elderly.

Survey on Relationship among Health Relating Factors Sasang Constitution and Stress (건강 요인과 사상체질 및 스트레스의 관련성 설문 조사)

  • Objectives: The objective of the present study was to assess the factors that influence the health of workers, especially nurses, and to propose methods for health management. Methods: A total of 246 nurses were surveyed to ascertain the health status score, Sasang constitution diagnosis, health-related life and job factors, psychosocial stress, and job stress. Depending on their health status score, the subjects were categorized into unhealthy, intermediate, or healthy groups, and each factor was compared with the stress score of the groups. Further, each Sasang constitution factor was also compared with the stress scores. Results: Analysis based on the health status scores indicated that the patients in the intermediate group were older and had longer tenure than those in the unhealthy or healthy groups. The healthy group had higher number of married individuals, and they were subjectively assessed as healthy. Patients in this group were more satisfied with their work than those in the unhealthy group. Analysis of the Sasang constitution showed that a lower percentage of individuals with a Soeumin constitution were married, and most considered themselves to be unhealthy during the subjective health assessment. Conclusions: The findings of this survey revealed that in order to maintain health, efforts should be made to improve the work environment, achieve health confidence, and practice health behavior while considering one's own body, mental state, and constitution.

The Factors Associated with Job Satisfaction of Assistant Nurses in General Hospitals (종합병원 간호조무사들의 직무만족도와 관련요인)

  • Background : The main aim of this study was to analyze the factors that could be used to predict job satisfaction of assistant nurses in general hospitals. Material and Methods : This study was based on a survey of assistant nurses in the Daegu region from January 1, 2006 to January 31, 2006. Originally 300 questionnaires were distributed and among them 291 were completed. The data was collected and used for the statistical analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistics, such as the frequency, t-test and one-way ANOVA were used for the analysis. Results : Among the respondents, the average score for job satisfaction was lowest in the university-trained nurses and highest in the nurses who had only graduated from high school. Conclusion : The working conditions, work place and motivation are significantly associated with job satisfaction. In particular, there was lower job satisfaction in those nurses who wanted to change their occupation.

Analysis of Influencing Factors that Influence on the Job Satisfaction of Nurses involved in Medical Insurance Reviews (보험심사간호사의 직무만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study aimed to analyze the factors that influence the job satisfaction of nurses involved in medical insurance reviews. The study involved a self-administered questionnaire survey which was conducted with to 297 nurses who were in charge of medical insurance reviews between April 10 and April 28, 2000. The average job satisfaction of the subjects was 3.04. The sub-items of job satisfaction were noted to be high for 'professional status'(3.79) and low for wage (2.46). The job satisfaction of subjects showed statistically significant differences with regard to education, career, and volume of service(p<0.05). The average job stress of subjects was 2.57. The sub-items of job stress included problems pertaining to human relationships problem(2.84), conflicts with doctors at work (2.79), and the burden of excessive workloads(2.79), in that order. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that job satisfaction was significantly low when the job stress was higher. It also showed that the job satisfaction was significantly high as there was more frequency of judgements and higher education. These results suggest that the job stress of nurses involved in medical insurance reviews has a profound impact on their job satisfaction. Therefore, the efforts should be made to reduce their job stress. It may also be beneficial to reinforce the training with the doctors and nurses in order to improve their communication skills. Disseminating more information about insurance standards may also be considered.

The Impact of Organizational Justice, Empowerment on the Nursing Task Performance of Nurses: Focused on the Mediating Effect of Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment (간호사의 조직공정성, 임파워먼트가 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향: 직무만족과 조직몰입의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural model on the Nursing Task Performance of Hospital Nurses. Methods: Data collection was done by the 200 hospital nurses from May 1st to May 20th, 2013 in Seoul city. The sample variance-covariance matrix was analyzed using AMOS 19.0 and the maximum likelihood minimization function. The goodness of fit was evaluated using the SRMR, RMSEA and its 90% confidence interval, CFI, and TLI. Results: First, hospital nurses' organizational justice and empowerment was not found to have a significant direct effect on nursing task performance. Second, organizational justice and empowerment had a direct effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Third, organizational commitment was found to have a significant direct effect on nursing task performance. Forth, hospital nurses' empowerment was found to have a significant direct effect on nursing task performance. Conclusion: Nurses' nursing task performance was influenced by organizational justice, empowerment, and organizational commitment. In order to increase the degree of nursing task performance in hospital nurse, it is necessary to develop the nursing program and its application considering hospital nurses' organizational justice and empowerment and organizational commitment.

The Educational Needs of Mothers of Nephrotic Syndrome Patients and the Degree of the Importance of Educational Activity Perceived by Nurses (신증후군 환아 어머니의 교육요구와 간호사가 인지한 교육활동의 중요도에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • This is descripitive study conducted to identify educational needs of mothers of nephrotic syndrome patients and the degree of the importance of educational activity perceived by nurses who look after nephrotic syndrome patients. The study subjects were composed of 60 mothers & 63 nurses of nephrotic syndrome patients whose children were hospitalized in 2 Pediatric wards of University Hospital in Seoul and 1 in Pusan from Mar. in 1997 to July 1997. A questionaire for this study was item Kikert type 5 point scale, developed on the basis of previous literature and researcher's clinical experience and the reliability of the used instruments was α=.97. The data analysis was done by SAS. t-test, and ANOVA were done to determine the effect of general characteristics of subjects on their educational needs. T-test was done to measure relations between the degree of educational needs and importance of educational activity. The results were as follows. 1. The Educational needs of mothers ranked as the highest in home care. 2. In character of mothers, the degree of education, economic state, the number of child and occupation was significant in statistically. 3. The importance of educational activity of nurses ranked the highest in diagnosis and treatment of the disease. 4. The educational needs of nephrotic syn. children' mother and importance of nurses were different in diagnosis and treatment of the disease and home care. On the basis of these results, we suggest as follows. 1. It is proposed that nurses use these results of the study actively for the educational program for Nephrotic Syndrome patients and their mothers. 2. It is suggested to make a comparative study of the degree of nurses' understanding of the importance on educational items with the instruments of this study.

Factors Affecting Nurses' Web-based Learning Achievement in Schoolwork (학업병행간호사의 웹강의 수강에 따른 학업성취도에 영향 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors that affected self efficacy, social support and learning achievement in the web-based learning of graduate school students. Methods: The data were collected from 79 nurses in a web-based learning. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess the level of self-efficacy, social support and learning achievement. Results: The learning achievement was significantly improved to 4.05 points after web-based learning compared to 2.69 points before web-based learning, and all other items were also improved. Self-efficacy was improved to 3.91 points from 3.66 points after web-based learning and so was social support to 4.18 points from 3.94 points. Fatigue and stress among health behavior characteristics were significantly decreased after web-based learning. Conclusion: This study shows that the web-based learning improved self-efficacy and social support of the students. And self-efficacy was an important factor in learning achievement. It is necessary to develop a strategy to improve self-efficacy as well as to manage social support for increasing interactions among the nurses in a web-based learning.

The Internal Marketing Strategy for the Performance of Medical Service -A Focus on the Compensation Package for the Internal Customers- (의료서비스의 내부마케팅 전략수립을 위한 내부고객세분화와 보상정책의 적용에 관한 연구)

  • This research examines the compensation package maximizing the utilities of internal customers by applying the market segmentation theory. Data were collected from four Korean hospitals in Seoul, Pusan and Kyunggi-do. The research is designed to seek the compensation package maximizing the utility of doctors and nurses by applying the market segmentation theory. The compensation package for doctors and nurses was classified into 5 attributes which are level of salary, payment method, education, promotion, reward method. The test results were as follows. First, the relative importance of each attribute in the compensation package is different. The level of salary is the most important, reward method is the next. Second, the utility of doctors increases by 8.7%, when they are segmented on the basis. of their preference for compensation attributes while that of nurses increases by 39.8%. The results of this study imply that the utility of doctors and nurses increases with differentiated compensation package for internal customer segmented by their preference.
