This research has been attempted to measure health acknowledgement and needs of 1158 respondents, the parents of elementary, middle, and high school students, residing in Seoul and In-chon. 1. The majority of parents had high interests in health and their children's health education. In addition, more than half of parents showed positive responses in their willingness to participate in organizational activities. 2. 41.7% of parents thought that their children were receiving health education regularly. For their recognitions of the course title, 'Physical Education' was the most highly recognized by the parents of elementary and middle school students, and 'Military Drill' for the parents of high school students. 3. A high number of parents perceived the problems of school health education. 4. There was a high number of parents, who thought that health education teachers' knowledge was deficient, and 86.3% of them agreed that additional education for 33the teachers should be desired. 5. 95.5% of parents acknowledged the necessity of health education; 78.8% of them recognized the reinforcement of health education; and 60.0% of them percepted the necessity of establishing the independent health education courses. 6. For the matter of instruction period, the majority of parents responded that health education should be taught from "kindergarten" and "elementary school". For the appropriate instruction hour per a week, the majority answered 1 hour. Most respondents answered that those, who majored in health education, should be the appropriate teachers. 7. The survey result indicated that there was a close correlation between the cognition of the importance of health education and the correspondents' health educational background, their interest and willingness to participate in health education. 8. The most desired areas of health education were Safety Education and Health-Habit. The followings were Environmental Health, Prevention of Disease, Mental Health, Growth and Nutrition, and Drug-Abuse in a sequent order. The parents of elementary school students showed a high acknowledgement on Health-Habit, Growth and Nutrition, and Prevention of disease, Safety Education. On the other hand, as the children entered into the advanced schools, the parents' recognition of the health education needs shifted into Sex education, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health. 9. Those respondents, who recognized the necessity of health education and advocated the establishment of independent health education courses, had a strong demand for the implementation of the health education.
This study was conducted to investigate the perception and understanding parents had regarding environment friendly agricultural products being used for school foodservice. A trained practitioner surveyed 221 parents of children at elementary schools in Daejeon using a questionnaire, after which the resulting data were analyzed by a Chi-square test. Overall, the parent's responses regarding the foodservice were positive. However, most of the parents do not participate (65%) in the school foodservice if they work, and those that do participate primarily work as meal service aides (58.1%). Parents indicated that the work of urgent field of inspection on food materials (69.9%), and the reason of an agreement (98.2%) for them were the students' health (68.4%). In addition, most parents were positive about the possibility of replacing foods used in the school with environment friendly products (51.6%) and felt that the government should pay the additional expense associated with their replacement. Furthermore, the majority of the parent's surveyed felt that children should be supplied with vegetables (54.9%) purchased directly from farms. The parents' satisfaction with the meal service (25.1%) was lower than that of the students (54.1%). The reason for the satisfaction reported by the parents was concern regarding the health of their children (53.3%). In addition, the majority of the parents (47.3%) responded that environment friendly agricultural products differ from general agricultural products because insecticides and fertilizer were not used. The main objection parents had to using environment friendly products was their cost (59.1%), and most parents felt that a realistic solution to this problem was unified purchase (41.4%). Besides, a problem when replacing with them was the expensive price (38.1%) and true or false (37.7%), and the students' satisfaction (59.5%) was selected the most in an effect of using them, diversity of the product (39.1%) and price reduction (32.6%) for a solution of the increase of using them.
The purpose of this study is to examine current situations about and factors related to expenditures of private education among pre-school children and to provide policy implications useful for future pre-school children education. The subjects of the study were parents of pre-school children under seven years of age, who lived in Seoul and Incheon area. The survey was conducted using parent questionnaire. The major findings of the study are: First, 86.8% of parents of pre-school children use private education and the average expenditure on it was 154, 446 won. Second, major factors determining their private education expenditure are educational level of parents, parents' job characteristics, household income, and region. Third, the most important reason for using private education among parents is to improve and excel in academic performance of their children. Forth, the higher the parents' expected returns from private education are, the higher the expenditure level of private education is. Fitth, the results of the logistic regressions showed that parents' attitudes toward private education was the most important factor in determining household economic burden associated with private education. The odds were 5 times greater for the parent group with strong desire for private education than for the parent group without it and 1.2 times greater for the parent group with high-expected returns from private education than the parent group without it. In conclusion, systematic, universal educational policies need to be developed to provide and support all the parents with pre-school children, given that their current economic burden is substantial. By providing such support, we can help parents focus on public education. This study examining current situations about and determining factors related to private education expenditures among pre-school children collected data limiting only Seoul and Inchoen area, therefore, future studies need to include data collected nationwide for generalizability of the findings. As well, development of more elaborated survey instruments and analytical methods would advance our understanding in the field.
Sex does not mean simply the physical behaviors related to man and woman, rather the sexuality needed socializing process toward total personality. It is believed that religion or social norms on sex, limit talking about sex openly. But children have, their own sexual thinking and want to know why and how. This survey was conducted to find out the need in sex education of primary school students and their parents in Seoul area, comparing students'sexual knowledge, attitude, and behavior to their parents', in October 1989. Total 400 students and their parents who are attending two primary school in Seoul, were given the questionnaires, and 395 students' and 310 parents', respectively, were finally analyzed. The following results were obtained. 1. The mean of 11 questions In asking sexual knowledge of students was 6.18, and showed no difference between boys and girls. But the higher grade, the higher score. 2. The positive attitudes on marriage and sex roles were showed, but negative on physical changes with puberty, which was same to the parents' reaction. 3. Moro than three-forths of students wanted to take sex education class, and one-third of them believed that it should be conducted by school nurses. This was accorded with their parents. 4. The sexual knowledge degree and attitudes of parents went proportionately to their higher educational background. Protestants reacted more negatively to the given sexual terms. No significant difference was made among the age groups of them. As stated above. the degree of sexual knowledge and attitudes are movable accordingly to their children's sexual thinking and need. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that sex education In the primary schools should be conducted systematically involving parents, especially mothers. And it is suggested that school nurses undertake their responsibilities as the sex educators.
Although the problem about a token of parents' gratitude is restricted by small number of teachers, it must be solved for normal and good schooling. The purpose of this study was to investigate the problem about a token of parents' gratitude, an extent of a token of parents' gratitude, seriousness of a token of parents' gratitude, the experience of a token of parents' gratitude, an amount of money a token of parents' gratitude, the time of a token of parents' gratitude, a compensation of a token of parents' gratitude using a questionnaire to 549 parents. And a Chi-square test was used as a research tool for this study. This study indicates that many parents recognize a token of parents' gratitude as money or gift certificate. And most parents recognize different significantly about a token of parents' gratitude according to teachers' sex, ages, level of school, and type of school. We do not need a vast and experimental revolution in education based on unproved reasoning. If we want to be normal and good schooling, we have to make an effort small changes which solve a problem of a token of parents' gratitude. Our educational policies have to move from vast approaches generated from 'above' with political purpose to more particular approaches based on specific problems and generated by the community.
Recently, due to the child-friendly city project being conducted by UNICEF, the movement to create a child-friendly cities has been actively promoted by the South Korean government. However, due to the lack of specific physical plans to improve the basic rights of children in the city, the project has been mainly implemented for educational and institutional projects. In this study, we investigated the activities of children and parents living in elementary school neighborhoods. Based on our investigation, we attempted to generate the desired results that can be referred to by physical planners looking to make changes to school neighborhoods by comparing and analyzing children and parents' activity range and life patterns in the neighborhood. The GPS and traffic log surveys were conducted as the primary research methods. The results of this study are as follows: First, both children and parents are most likely to walk in their neighborhoods. In addition, the use of private cars and school vehicles was high, but the use of public transportation was low. Second, the longer parents and children stayed together, the wider the range of their activities. Third, children who spent a lot of time with parents were more likely to have diverse life patterns than children who did not spend a lot of time with parents. Fourth, parents who live in elementary school neighborhoods frequently used commercial facilities and cultural centers around the school. Therefore, it is important to construct facilities around the school for parent-use.

This research examines the views of teachers and parents of special schools in Saudi Arabia, exploring the schools' strengths and disadvantages, as well as their impact on teachers, parents, and students with disabilities. The respondents' key views of the schools are identified, including the areas of consensus and conflict, and recommendations are made for the future, based on the findings. This research concerns a specific special education school in Saudi Arabia, and focuses on the understanding of special education in the country. The approach to the study is targeted and qualitative, with the six participants, three teachers and three parents, intentionally selected. The data collection is conducted via semi-structured interviews that explore the participants' views of special education in Saudi Arabia. A number of issues emerge from the results, and one raised by all three teachers is the need to improve school facilities. Although all three parents report that their children clearly benefited from attending a special school, two felt that the offering was insufficient, in terms of the teaching methods, and of supporting cognitive skills.
This study aims to analyze the influence of parents' nurturing attitude on the children's self-esteem by comparing and analyzing the self-esteem of target children of gifted and talented education (GATE) and nongifted children with parents' nurturing attitude. The targets of this study are total 656 children in total. This study can be summarized as below. First, the self-esteem of target children of GATE turned out to be higher than that of nongifted children in overall, social, domestic and school life. Second, the nurturing attitude of parents felt by the target children of GATE is, from both father and mother, more affectionate, autonomous, achievement-oriented and rational. The parents of target children of GATE are more free in communication and fathers are aggressively in education; compared to parents of nongifted children, they put more importance on the course of achievement and help their children's achievement with actual way compared to the parents of nongifted children. Third, the relevance between self-esteem and parents' nurturing attitude is different in sub-areas. The self-esteem at home is the most relevant with parents' nurturing attitude, and the self-esteem at school is more affected by other factors than by the parents' nurturing attitude.
Purpose: This study investigated the need for information and social support in parents of children with epilepsy. Method: A total of 119 parents of children with epilepsy were recruited and asked to fill out questionnaires. Result: Of 119 parents, two-third reported that they received full and sufficient information about their child's disease and its management but one-third felt the information was insufficient and incomplete. Most parents (62.2%) felt at loss when their child had a seizure, either at home or at school. They wanted information on the causes of seizures, adequate steps deal with seizure and steps they should take to become adequate and supportive parents for their children. However, most parents were reluctant to disclose the disease or to receive support from outsiders. Conclusion: Regardless of the fact that most parents received sufficient information about the management of epilepsy, they felt at a loss when their child had a seizure attack. Therefore nurses should give specific instruction on seizure management and assess the needs of parents on a regular basis.
This study is aimed at providing basic information necessary to set up education program and strategies to prevent high school students from smoking by school health care service. The main groups of study are 814 third-grade male students, 557 parents and 362 teachers, who were randomly chosen at 8 high schools in Seoul. Date analysis consisted of Chi-square test and percentage. The findings of the study are as follows: 1. The less interesting family life is, the more increasing current smoking rate is, (ex-smoking rate 53.5%, re-smoking rate 40.3%, current smoking rate 24.3%) 2. According th the results of $x^2$-test for the school life and the smoking, the students above ranking 41 showed th increase as 48.7% for continuous smoking, 18.9% for re-smoking, 67.6% for the present smoker. But it turned out that the students belonged to ranking 10 were not experienced the smoking. So it showed that there was a correlation between score and smoking. 3. It is noted that 93.3% of students, 93.3% of parents and 96.1% of teachers recognize harmful effect of smoking. But less than 70% those have recognized only half of all smoking knowledge. 4. There is a significant difference in the contends and types of education between parents and teachers. 5. For the time of home education and school health education to prevent the smoking, it turned out that 44.9% of students, 42.4% of parents, and 47.4% of teachers considered the optimal time as a high school' days. In addition it appeared that 40.5% of students, 33.4% of parents, and 54.6% of teachers recognized the necessity of the early education before the elementart school. For the optimal time to begin school health education, it showed that the middle school days were indicated from 56.6% of students, 52.7% of parents, the elementary school days were 54.6% of parents, the elementary school days were 54.6% of teachers.
