  • The main cystal phases of traditional ceramics made of clay, quartz, and feldspar are mullite and cristobalite. Although mullite can provide strength to the ceramic body, it cannot be used for the heat resistant ceramics because the thermal expansion coefficient of it is relatively high as 5.3 × 10-6/℃. In this study, development of lightweight heat resistant ceramics was tried by producing cordierite phase, of which the thermal expansion coefficient is 2.6 × 10-6/℃, instead of forming mullite phase in the ceramic body by using Sanchung Kaolin and Jangsu gobdol sludge. It was concluded that ceramics having good heat resistant, bending strength, and refractoriness under load could be fabricated when 80 wt% of Sanchung Kaolin and 20 wt% of Jangsu gobdol sludge were used as raw materials. Also, the bulk specific gravity is 1.78, which is lighter than the existing Buncheong ware.

  • The purpose of this study was to analysis the pollutant loading of Chin yang Reservoir according to the variation of outflow. Regression equation of the pollutant loading and outflow was represented as $L=a\;Q^b$ in which L = pollutant loading(kg/day), a and b = regression coefficient, and Q = outflow($m^3/day$). Regression coefficients ($R^2$) of Sanchung, Sinan and Changchon site was in range of 0.8376 to 0.9818. Therefore the pollutant loading was good correlated with outflow. Changchon site had minimum b value because outflow of pollutant was little compared with rainfall. The SS was the highest b value 1.621~1.7834 among water quality parameters because the pollutant loading of SS was much affected by outflow. Also, the pollutant loadings per area could be calculated and compared in case of the dry season, normal season and flood season. The pollutant loading in the normal and flood season except the dry season were higher in order of Sanchung, Sinan and Changchon site. Pollutant loading per area were higher in order of Sinan, Sanchung and Changchon site. When it compared with pollutant loading per area calculated using pollutant unit loading, T-N was much different each other.

  • The study investigates the effects of a body that influences the nucleation and growth of crystal by experiment the application of zinc crystalline glaze to five of the most favorably used kinds of bodies sold in the market. As a result, in all bodies used in the test, willemite crystal is appeared on the surface and in the case of white porcelain, super white and white porcelain sculpture clay, beautiful crystals is developed. The reason that crystal does not grow and trickle down by sticking to the body in celadon clay and Sanchung clay is the large surface tension of glaze by ingredient CaO which is more often present compared to other bodies. In glaze, the ingredients $Al_2O_3$ and RO greatly influences the surface tension, and adhesion of the glaze and the body is completed by the glaze's power to stick, which is determined by the reaction of both the glaze and the body. However, in the case of Sanchung clay, the CaO in body reacts to the glaze, and glaze, on Sanchung clay, has tendency to run more compared with other bodies. It is supposed that this mechanism influences the growth of willemite crystal and the glaze's adhesion to the body.

  • For biodiversity conservation, Biological Impact Assessment is very important. The focus of the study is to enhance efficient Environment Impact Assessment(EIA) based on collecting existing information of endangered species covering the status survey, estimation of effects and reducing methods. Habitat Suitability Index(HSI) can be applicable to Ecological Impact Assessment and finding various reducing methods based on estimating effects. For this study, the EIA report of Samjang - Sanchung highway construction was chosen as an example and Prionailurus bengalensis euptilura as an endangered species was chosen to assess the ecosystem impact on road construction. Water, road, ground coverage, slope, altitude as variables of habitat were weighted and final HSI map was calculated using Arc map and Arc view. Through comparing of before and after HSI, quantitative estimating on effects was possible to minimize impact of road construction to wildlife habitat.

  • The purpose of this research is planning the master plan of a rural village for rural-tourism type. The rural village area is faced on the moment of the change. A rural village only have not the thing, that the facility of the food manufacture. A rural village inhabitants need an environment improvement and income enlargement. And for the citizens need a space facility of a leisure, practical use, rest and experience in rural area. The government executed a project for this purpose. So, Sinchon village, San-chung were selected to an object village in Gyeong-nam. This investigation analyzed this village's planning elements, and established basic directions of village master plan.

  • A human case of Centrocestus armatus (Heterophyidae) infection was proved by identifying an adult worm collected after treatment with praziquantel in Korea. The case is 42-year old man who resides in a rural area in Sanchung-gun, Kyeongsangnam·do. The case was concomitantly infected with Clonorchis sinensis and had the history of eating raw (reshwater fishes including Zacco platypus, which are known to be the second intermediate host of C. armatus in Korea. This is the first report of natural human infection by C. armatus in the literature.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop bathing aids as a strategic products to promote the medical tourism in Sancheong Jirisan Oriental medicinal herbs special district using medicinal herbs produced in Sancheong province, and to verify the effect of the bathing aids in vitro. We investigated the cytotoxicity activity, antioxidant activity, antiaging and whitening effects of Sanchung-PNU 1 (SP1) and Sanchung-PNU 2 (SP2) made with traditional medicinal herbs. The cytotoxicity activity was measured by MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay. Antioxidant activities were determined by DPPH (1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging capacity assay. We measured the inhibitory effect against tyrosinase activity to prove the whitening effect, and the inhibitory effect against elastase activity to prove the anti-aging effect. Two proposed prescriptions, SP1 and SP2, showed not significant cytotoxicity but significant (p<0.001) improvement in anti-oxidation, anti-wrinkle, and whitening effects compared to the control group. The result shows that these bathing aids have excellent DPPH radical scavenging effect and significant inhibitory effect against elastase and tyrosinase activity. These findings suggest that these bathing aids have a strong antioxidant, anti-aging, and whitening effect.

  • The impact of a central place on daily living over wide outlying territory has been one of traditional subjects in the field of urban geography. The flow of rural population toward the central city of Chinju characterizes the population movement in Western Kyungnam, where the spillover of urban population into outlying areas, an especially prominent phenomenon in American society, does not occur. The central city of Chinju is supposed to be the most favored settlement area in Western Kyungnam. More than two thousands of teachers. who live in Chinju, cross the city boundary each morning to do their jobs in Western Kyungnam. But only ninety teachers living outside Chinju commute to the workplace in the city. The teachers willingly spend hours commuting each day to enjoy better quality of life in the central city. In fact, the central city of Chinju functions as bedroom communities for many middle-class workers in Western Kyungnam. On the basis of teachers' commuting behavior, four levels of Chinju's urban spheres are identified in Western Kyungnam. As Table-6 and Figure-2 show, the first-order level of Chinju's sphere includes most Myuns of Sanchung/Hadong Guns and some Myuns of Sachun/Gosung Guns. The second-order level comprises Sanchung/Sachun Eubs and many Myuns of Sachun /Gosung Guns. The third-order level is made up of Samchunpo, Hadong/Gosung/Eryung/Namhae/Habchun/Hamyang Eups, and many Myuns of Eryung/Namhae/Habchun Guns. And all of Guchang Gun and most Myuns of Hamyang Gun belong to the fourth-order level of Chinju's sphere. The influence sphere of Metropolitan Chinju is extended farther in the direction of less competition with other metropolises. Such a situation occurs to the west and south of Chinju. Daily commuting, defined as the journeys to and from work, is an excellent indicator for delimiting urban spheres of influence.
