As asbestos-containing buildings are getting older, asbestos deconstruction works are increasing. As a result, accident risks such as falls, cuts, electric shocks, and suffocation are increasing. Existing studies are mostly about health management and institutional policy research and there is little research on work risk. So workplace risk assessments that are easily applicable in the field are required to be applied. Sealing is the first process of asbestos deconstruction and is the first step to ensure worker's safety. Job Safety Analysis(JSA) and Checklist were used to identify the risk factors and to calculate the level of the risk. By comparing the two risk assessment tools, it was figured out that the JSA is appropriate for the initial process and change of work procedure while Checklist is appropriate for repetitive work. Because the sealing process is sort and simple, it is unlikely to cause serious injury. But since the risk of falling and cuts are exist, safety education and supervision are necessary to maintain a safe working environment.
This study aims to examine the effects of team member characteristics(change reception, work understand) and team process(potency, social support, workload sharing, communication and cooperation within the team) to team effectiveness(job commitment, job satisfaction and productivity), As the result, both team member characteristics and team process have positive relations with team effectiveness.
The high positive correlation between plastic strain of loaded coal-rock and AE (acoustic emission) characteristic parameter was studied and proved through AE experiment during coal-rock uniaxial compression process. The results show that plastic strain in the whole process of uniaxial compression can be gained through the experiment. Moreover, coal-rock loaded process can be divided into four phases through analyzing the change of the plastic strain curve : pressure consolidation phase, apparent linear elastic phase, accelerated deformation phase, rupture and development phase, which corresponds to conventional elastic-plastic change law of loaded coal-rock. The theoretical curve of damage constitutive model is in high agreement with the experimental curve. So the damage evolution law of coal rock damage can be indicated by both acoustic emission and plastic strain. The results have great academic and realistic significance for further study of both AE signal characteristics during loaded coal-rock damaged process and the forecasting of coal-rock dynamic disasters.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose an Integrated Safety Evaluation Process (ISEP) that can enhances the safety aspect of the safety-critical system. This process utilizes the advantages of the iterative Systems Engineering process combined with the safety assessment process that is commonly and well defined in many standards and/or guidelines for railway, aerospace, and other safety-critical systems. Methods: The proposed process model is based on the predefined system lifecycle, in each phase of which the appropriate safety assessment activities and the safety data are identified. The interfaces between Systems Engineering process and the safety assessment process are identified before the two processes are integrated. For the integration, the elements at lower level of Systems Engineering process are combined with the relevant elements of safety assessment process. This combined process model is represented as Enhanced Functional Flow Block Diagram (EFFBD) by using CORE(R) that is commercial modelling tool. Results: The proposed model is applied to the lifecycle and management process of the United States aircraft system. The US aircraft systems engineering process are composed of twelve key elements, among which the requirements management, functional analysis, and Synthesis processes are considered for examplenary application of the proposed process. To synchronize the Systems Engineering process and the safety assessment process, the Systems Engineering milestones are utilized, where the US aircraft system has thirteen milestones. Taking into account of the nine steps in the maturity level, the integrated process models are proposed in some phases of lifecycle. The flows of processes are simulated using CORE(R), confirming the flows are timelined without any conflict between the Systems Engineering process and the safety assessment process. Conclusion: ISEP allows the timeline analysis for identifying activity and data flows. Also, the use of CORE(R) is shown to be effective in the management and change of process data, which helps for the ISEP to apply for the development of safety critical system. In this study, only the first few phases of lifecyle are considered, however, the implementation through operation phases can be revised by combining the elements of safety activities regarding those phases.
Risk assessment should be processed when physical circumstances of airspace such as establishment of new flight procedures or reconstruction of existing airspace are planned to change and one of the alternatives for the change have to be selected. This is an effort to find the best alternative which is able to maintain at or above the acceptable risk level. ICAO and its contracting states provide specialized guidance material for 'Safety Management System' relating to handing airspace matters. These manuals include a conceptual framework for managing safety as well as some of the systemic processes and criteria used to meet the objectives of a State's safety programme. This criteria must be established in compliance with the State's laws and regulations for air safety and for the fulfillment of the State's safety goals. This study is to carry out the risk assessment criteria through literature reviews relevant to the safety management, and to propose the results of criteria to be applicable for establishing flight procedure design process.
Loss of human lives and properties including environmental damage due to large scale accidents requires change of our perception to marine safety. IMO is trying to re-establish overall marine safety system through long term plan such as GBS. Along this line, current regulation based safety evaluation is in process of changing into performance based methods, and for this transition, simulation based safety evaluation during design stage considering damage is highly necessary. In this paper, first, damage scenario is developed from IMO regulations and accident case studies. Then an integrated and simulation based safety evaluation prototype system considering both damage stability and structural safety is developed for the use during ship design process.
Heat is generated during the synthesis and mixing process of chemical compounds due to a change in activation energy during the reaction. A runaway reaction occurs when sufficient heat is not removed during the heat control process within a reactor, rapidly increasing the temperature, reaction speed, and rate of heat generation inside the reactor. A risk assessment was executed using an RC-1 (Reaction Calorimeter) during Friedel-Crafts acylation. Friedel-Crafts acylation runs the risk of rapid heat generation during Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing; it was used to confirm the risk of a runaway reaction at each synthesis stage and during the mixing process. This study used experimental data to develop a safety efficiency improvement plan to control the risks of runaway and other exothermic reactions, which was implemented at the production site of a chemical plant.
Many foundation projects are built on red-bed soft rocks, and the damage evolution of this kind of rocks affects the safety of these projects. At present, there is insufficient research on the damage evolution of red-bed soft rocks, especially the progressive process from mesoscopic texture change to macroscopic elastoplastic deformation. Therefore, based on the dual-porosity characteristics of pores and fissures in soft rock, we adopted a cellular automata model to simulate the propagation of these voids in soft rocks under an external load. Further, we established a macro-mesoscopic damage model of red-bed soft rocks, and its reliability was verified by tests. The results indicate that the relationship between the number and voids size conformed to a quartic polynomial, whereas the relationship between the damage variable and damage porosity conformed to a logistic curve. The damage porosity was affected by dual-porosity parameters such as the fractal dimension of pores and fissures. We verified the reliability of the model by comparing the test results with an established damage model. Our research results described the progressive process from mesoscopic texture change to macroscopic elastoplastic deformation and provided a theoretical basis for the damage evolution of these rocks.
Since it is really hard to construct process models based on prior process knowledges, various statistical approaches have been employed to build fault diagnosis models. However, the crucial drawback of these approaches is that the solutions may vary according to the fault magnitude, even if the same fault occurs. In this study, the parameter monitoring approach is suggested. When a fault occurs in a chemical process, this leads to trigger the change of a process model and the monitoring parameters of process models is able to provide the efficient fault diagnosis model. A few important variables are selected and their predictive models are constructed by partial least square (PLS) method. The Euclidean norms of parameters of PLS models are estimated and a fault diagnosis can be performed as comparing with parameters of PLS models based on normal operational conditions. To improve the monitoring performance, cumulative summation (CUSUM) control chart is employed and the changes of model parameters are recorded to identify the type of an unknown fault. To verify the efficacy of the proposed model, Tennessee Eastman (TE) process is tested and this model can be easily applied to other complex processes.
When the vacuum system for the process of $SiH_{4}$ gas used in the semiconductor and FPD field is partially vented from vacuum to atmospheric state, a fire often occurs due to auto-ignition of $SiH_{4}$ gas. In order to prevent the fire, the concentration of $SiH_{4}$ should be kept under LFL. This means that the higher capacity pump is needed to meet the process conditions as well as the condition that the concentration of $SiH_{4}$ should be kept under LFL. In this article, we conducted the injection of the dilution gas at the manifold between booster pump and dry pump compared with the typical method that the dilution gas was injected into inlet port of booster pump using computer simulation. According to the result, we can flow further more purge gas for safety without any change of the condition in the process chamber, which means that the higher capacity pump is not required for safety in some cases.
