  • This study aims to examine the effects of massages using various tools being frequently applied in skin care centers. It suggests the most effective method based on the comparative analysis on the body heat changes before and after the massages and also provides foundational data to develop back treatment programs. This research conducted manual, ultrasonic device, and also suction massages from July 3rd till 10th, 2011 to women at the age of 35 to 45 living in Gwangju, Jeonnam. And five of them were arranged for each tool. The body heat changes before the massages and after the 20-minute massages were measured with the body heat diagnostic device of thermograph DITI IRIS-XP. The collected data went through the t-test using SPSS 18.0. According to the result, the body temperature increased significantly before and after the manual massage from $30.82{\pm}0.52$ to $35.06{\pm}0.36$ (p<.001). The body temperature also increased significantly before and after the ultrasonic massage from $30.66{\pm}0.53$ to $35.14{\pm}0.39$ (p<.001). And the body temperature increased significantly before and after the suction massage from $30.93{\pm}0.47$ to $39.25{\pm}0.19$ (p<.001). The hand, ultrasonic device, and also suction were all effective as massage tools in terms of increasing body temperature, and the suction massage was shown to have the greatest effect in body temperature increase. Thus, the suction was analyzed as the most effective tool to be used to develop back treatment programs.

  • This is a descriptive research study undertaken to confirm the relationship between depression, fear-avoidance beliefs, catastrophizing, and the quality of life in the elderly with chronic pain, and how psychological factors affect their quality of life. The subjects were 147 seniors aged 65 years or older, who visited a neuropathy clinic in A city from March 4, 2019 to March 18, 2019. Statistical analysis was achieved by applying t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analyses using the SPSS/WIN 22.0 software. Considering the demographic characteristics of the elderly, quality of life revealed significant differences with respect to age (F=3.464, p<0.001), the presence of the spouse (F=3.464, p<0.001), health condition (t=4.545, p<0.001), and pain degree (F=14.76, p<0.001). Further analysis revealed that factors affecting quality of life in the elderly with chronic pain are depression (${\beta}=-0.25$, p<0.001), pain degree (${\beta}=0.25$, p<0.001), catastrophizing (${\beta}=-0.28,$p<0.001) and health condition $({\beta}=-0.19$, p<0.001), with a total explanation power of 49%. Hence, researches on the negative psychological factors, such as depression and catastrophizing, are required to improve the quality of life for the elderly. In addition, the development of a systematic nursing arbitration program is necessary to positively recognize active pain control and health conditions.

  • The Purpose of this study was to examine the survival rate and weight of rhinoceros beetle larvae by irradiating X-rays which are most commonly used in diagnosing and treating for diseases. Subjectts and Methods: In early April 2019, the rhinoceros beetle larvae 41 were classified into two groups as control group (11 larvae) and irradiated group (10 Gy, 20 Gy, 30 Gy, each 10 larvae). The irradiated group was exposed by 6 MV X-ray using linear accelerators (Clinac IS, VERIAN, USA) at the University Hospital in Daejeon (Source-surface distance 96 cm, field size 18 × 10 cm, dose rate 600 MU/min), after environmental adaptation for 3 days (temperature 20.6℃, humidity 64.3%). The survival rate and weight were measured weekly after irradiating X-ray. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS ver. 22.0 (Chicago, IL, USA). The weight was analysed by Independent T-test, by cross-sectional analysis for survival rates between control and X-ray irradiated groups. Also, the correlation between dose and weight was analyzed by Spearman test. In 3-week after irradiating X-ray, weight was significant difference between control group and irradiated group (10 Gy or 20 Gy, p < 0.05; and 30 Gy, p < 0.01) with increasing weight in all experimental groups. In 14-week, weight was increased in the control group, but decreased in irradiated group. weight was significant difference between control group and irradiated group. The survival rate in 3-week was decreased rapidly in all experimental group except 10 Gy, to 4-week in irradiated group. The control group had no change in survival rate 54.5% from 3-week to 14-week. From the 3-week, it showed lower survival rate with increasing radiation dose in irradiated group. In 19-week, survival rate of control group and 10 Gy was 45.4% and 30.0% respectively, all died in 20 Gy and 30 Gy. Weight was significantly negative correlated with radiation dose as longer time after irradiating X-ray. The weight and survival rate of rhino beetle larvae is affected by irradiating X-rays, weight and survival rate decreased more in higher dose.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors influencing endoscopy nurses' protective behavior against radiation exposure. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 122 endoscopy nurses in 21 hospitals located in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and six metropolitan cities in Korea. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program and included multiple regression analysis. Results: 1) There were significant relationships between protective behavior and protective environment (r=.74, p<.001), number of education sessions on radiation protection (r=.32, p<.001), number of protective devices (r=.28, p=.002), number of fellow nurses (r=.27, p=.003), and protective attitude (r=.18, p=.048). 2) Protective environment (${\beta}=0.79$, p<.001), type of hospital foundation (${\beta}=0.18$, p=.011) and marital status (${\beta}=-0.13$, p=.040) significantly predicted endoscopy nurses' protective behavior against radiation exposure (adjusted R square=.58, p<.001). The most powerful predictor for protective behavior against radiation exposure was a protective environment. Conclusion: Effective protective behavior of endoscopy nurses from radiation exposure requires improvement in their protective environment. Hospital administrators and managers should make efforts to increase protective facilities in endoscopy departments and provide endoscopy nurses with regular education on radiation protection.
